Fear and Hunger. Matches much of the description of Hellsinkers in that is a compelling game, but in the direction of grim and gritty. It's sequel is a battle royale in a war zone and still manages to be more hopeful. As for deep cut--that's one of the few ways to survive when you inevitably get an infection :)
It seems like a game that requires some extended release milligrams, or the focus of a kid that previously consumed some extended release milligrams. I'd play it.
God, that Demolition Man one triggered a memory about a different 3DO game. I remember a mate of mine had the original 'Need for Speed' with the trash-talking dude on it, who would give you an FMV ridiculing every time you lost against the (pretty hard) CPU opponent. One time we did manage to beat him, he just doubled down and got even more savage. So not only did the game hate you, it was also a sore loser.
How about a game that the devs hate the players? Like that one, who thinks the players are too stupid to understand the game because they dont like it?
the PS4 version of Parappa the Rapper is just the PSP version running on an emulator that loads high quality assets they were even just loading standard ISO's which people were able to modify on a modded PS4 and have it load other PSP games but it does suck that no proper effort was done to actually port it to the PS4.
I got an ad for a live-service game right after Jules's rant about live-service games. That's some delicious irony right there. Hey guys, you might want to know that live-service game ads are helping to monetize your vids.
It's not just relegated to mobile, in the slightest. There are a vast number of console/PC games that have directly lied to customers/promised features that never made it into the game.
I just found this channel (came across my feed), didn't even know it existed. How in the hell does Jules do this and WhatCulture Gaming and still find enough content?
Sly's insults in Demolition Man are fun, but he's got nothing on the zingers the main character of Styx: Shards of Darkness throws when you game over: th-cam.com/video/8_wA5VlqTnQ/w-d-xo.htmlsi=ZoW5Tj1aUWUcKKHq Also, Fate: Grand Order's Tungska Sanctuary event. FGO is an gacha game, which some would say is a player-hating genre to begin with, but it's cultivated a following with F2P-friendly design, fun combat, and an engaging- if overwritten- narrative. Tungska, however, was truly insulting. It's a raid event, which in FGO-speak means you fight a difficult superboss multiple times. It has a secondary life bar, and whenever anybody anywhere in the world beats the boss, the life bar goes down by one. When it reaches zero, the next bit of the story is unlocked. Tungska has several of those, and they're all punishing. Unlike most FGO raids, there's no personal reward for how many times you beat the boss; it's just locking the storyline behind grinding a series of infuriatingly-hard fights, and the entire event is on a time limit. All of that is annoying, but what pushes it to the next level is that this event was run OVER CHRISTMAS WEEKEND. That's right! The developers SERIOUSLY believed that their players are the kind of people who have nothing to do over the biggest holiday of the year but grind away on a mobile game. Second worst event in the history of the game.
Jules I just want to thank you for helping me open up to what live service games really are and how they almost ruined my life. Some of these types of games I have tried to play almost daily (for hours after I get home from work) and I would use them to escape from reality to the point where I almost hated the real world. I would complete my assignments/work last minute, I was always stressed out and almost never smiled. I was so hard on myself for not having the goals I wanted, but did nothing about them. Live service games are designed to have the player, as you mentioned, play a game as long as possible. It was then that I needed to have a serious talk with myself and came to the realization that I have a video-game addiction. If I were to say this to the developers, they would most likely tell me: "that's a you problem". I have given up video-game for more than a month and I feel in much more control of my life and happier. At this point we might as well call live-service games, addiction games, because that is the "secret goal" behind these games and live service, addiction, game creators do not care if this game could significantly impact or ruin someone else's life as long as they make a profit. Any type of game should be played when the player wants to and not be pressured to do so. I want to thank you again from the bottom of my heart for helping me realize the truth and to help move me forward. I wish we talk about video-game addiction more and take it more seriously even though most people think it doesn't exist or they push it under the rug. Believe me, despite video-game worlds not being real, video-game addiction is in fact very real.
Final Vendetta is like SOR4 in that big fans of the original SOR games made it, except instead of the love & dedication we got from SOR4 giving up all the best features of the first 3 games combined, FV’s favorite game was 3 in that the unfair difficulty & not being able to actually beat the game without knowing the exact difficulty and path were their favorite parts.
Final Vendetta is awesome! It's not quite Streets of Rage, but it is the next best thing. It is tough, but in co-op it is manageable. My best mate and I managed to finish it on our first play-through, although he was out of lives and I was on my final one at the last boss... It is rather short, but the music is sublime!
My list: 1. Pretty much anything from From software 2. Ghost n Goblins 3. Ninja Gaiden NES 4. Ninja Gaiden Xbox 5. Battletoads NES 6. Live Service Games 7. The Sims 8. The day before 9. Cyberpunk 2077 at launch 10. Rougelikes
I heartily agree with XCOM:Legends being on this list, but I would submit Dungeon Keeper mobile as a worthy contender. That game was so riddled with micro transactions that it was nearly impossible to even play if you didn’t shell out cash day after day.
For games as a service i saw mostly clips of MMOs there which honestly is a genre that does need it if it is done correctly. You can not expect a MMO to release everything in a expac on day 1 because people will be done in less then a week and then what, people migrate to something else which stops the flow of money, I dont think people want to wait a year or two between new content anyway, though this only applies for MMOs and not the p2w ones either. Though stuff like overwatch, apex, cod, yes it is not needed and it is all to keep people playing, but thats the point. Companies need money for new games, once that money starts drying up they either need to put a budget title out or take a loan, though that dosent excuse pure exploitation of the playerbase either. Now lets be clear, it does not belong in single player games at all, neither do cash shops.
I’m not sure I’d say live service games and mobile games hate the players. These kinds of games are chock full of abusive monetization and mechanics designed to addict players. The goal is to catch a few whales (the legendary crazy big spenders), so the games are designed to appeal to whales rather than ordinary players. The ordinary (mostly free to play or paid for the game, but not the micro transactions) players are needed only as content for the whales. Someone to be crushed, dominated, lorded over, etc. As a result, the games are highly grindy, with the option to use real world money as the ultimate cheat code/time saver.
I'm surprised you didn't say the Chicken rap / Bathroom in PaRappa. Anything that has to do with that damn female chicken. But desync and lag? That's another evil on it's own. We really need UmJammerLammy to get a remaster and maybe (maybe) a PaRappa 3. But eh, a fool can dream. You're a leg too Jules. Thanks for everything!
1. If you want to lump live service games together to talk about their many failures... Don't be afraid, it's the right move. 2. While there are still some good games coming out, the number of bad, boring, exploitative games is waaaayyyyy too high, and I really hate them as much as any of them could ever hate me. 3. People are challenging, but I want to believe they can be good because I'm still hopefully that world peace is an option... Sigh lol
I know most people don't like games as a live service but I implore you please try Warframe. If you like Destiny even a little try it. When you do you will find that it never pushes the pay to win on your screen. 😊
Formula 1 simulator on the spectrum (and TT racer if I remember rightly). Those hated you before you even played it, because you needed to have the tape playing to play the game! 12:00 I'm a dev. Not a game dev but it's the same wherever you go more or less. I wouldn't blame the devs on this. This was 100% business decisions. Man, I thought I was crazy when I was playing parappa remaster.
Take Two Interactive hates gamers so much, they placed some nails in the coffin of E3.
11:05 you can still buy it, codes for the game are going for $200 and accounts with it are being sold at $1k. "for preservation" XD
12:37 My God. The visual of a paper cut to the eyeball is too much for anything.
Came for the Crown Jules of FGS. Stayed for the outro.
Angry Jules ranting should be a full show lol❤
Any game based on a solid IP with Legends in the title is just immediately untrustworthy to me and I'm basically always right
The only thing that gives the promise of love service is no man's sky. Free constant updates and always things to do. Also no microtransactions.
I totally agree on live service games. I think a lot of people will look back at them with regret.
i saw the thumbnail and thought Jules hated us, it made both my wife and myself really sad inmediatly... Happy to see it was just a weird thumbnail.

We also would've accepted Contra Force for #1. Mainly because Konami made it a *CANON* entry.
