I heard that the main man behind melee hired a live orchestra out of his own pocket for this game. You just don't see that kind of love nowadays.
I feel like alot of it was kinda luck. They never intended it to be played this way. So many mechanics were added and they didn't account for how they'd overlap. So 20 years later new techniques can be found.

@@bobbykite8705I would argue it has and has subverted into a genre that I call a melee-like, where the movement is similar while having its own unique mechanics they exist but it's just that not enough people are playing them. Rivals of aether, Nickelodeon all stars brawl 2, and combo devils are some games that play just as well as melee with their own twist, The issue is that these games don't have the Nintendo IP to be popular enough to have players that will expand the meta, and the people that would appeal to the most (melee players) have the mentality of "this is fun, but why would I play this when I can just play melee a game that I put thousands of hours into and already enjoy enough without having to play a different game?" you have these really good deep games, but with very small fan bases due to this

Same. These are my favorites and they are both so great. This set was amazing.
Ngl jmook played way better in their winners quarters set this one the nerves really really came out. But Zain was able to play well enough to bring that out of him just like mango did to Zain at summit 11. If you go back and watch their winners set tho you can see so clearly jmook played nowhere near as well punish wise in this set.
@@wettuna1769 Yeah I mean that's how it goes when you're in grand finals of a supermajor. Jmook's two major wins were both over a year ago now, he had some kind of "fresh outlook" energy going on at the start of 2023 but he needs to rein his nerves back in now.

@@thesmith201052 Part of it is the MU. Sheik is one of the few characters that is favored against Marth, but no Sheik main has won a major since as far back as I can remember. Furthermore, Zain was considered to have essentially "solved" the Sheik MU years ago now.
That is, until Jmook took her to the next level by beating Zain twice in two separate majors, the second time with the final set against Zain, beating him twice on FD, and thus winning the whole thing. So yeah, there's a rivalry here, even if it doesn't have any toxicity to it.

@@RensvDamme naw it’s been hells one-sided after summit 11 in Zains favor.Zain and Jmook’s rivalry is way more entertaining to watch. Jmook is one of the few threats Zain actually has to deal with.Both of them are getting better every year and do the most insane combos and punishes ever, thus making their sets are getting more entertaining. They’re pushing the boundaries on a matchup that’s been relatively underdeveloped for decades on both ends while making it the most 2nd interesting matchup to watch along with Fox vs Falco.

Its interesting to think that 10:00 was where J mook lost the tournament. If he takes this Yoshis game there is no reset. Zain even knew that he got lucky there. You can't make mistakes in modern melee.

Zain's now ahead of Leffen in major wins, and he looks to stay ahead for a while since Leffen's not competing this year. Jmook looked really sharp but Zain had the answers. It's nice to see that Zain has won multiple majors after losers runs. That was the biggest missing piece for him for so long. Of the people who have won multiple majors, Leffen still hasn't won from losers. Has aMSa? Maybe Plup has? (Not counting events like Genesis 5, where Plup lost the first set of grands but won the second.)
Of the active major winners, only five have won from losers: Mango, Hungrybox, Zain, Cody, and Jmook. What's even crazier is that those last three players only joined the club last year, and we've already seen three runs each from Cody and Zain!
The two best matchups in melee to watch are Fox-Falco and Marth-Shiek and you can’t convince me otherwise
Marth - Spacies are usually bangers. Falcon - Puff is oddly entertaining if you appreciate the nuance of melee (esp when Wizzy plays). But yeah I agree with you

Falcon-Marth is my all-time fav, but this matchup and specific rivalry is one of the best in Melee history

Zain really showed his experience and stamina, as the games went on the fatigue appeared to start setting in for Jmook but Zain seemed to continue playing at full capacity, maybe even better as it went on. Super impressive, both players are so damn good. Congratulations 🎊

Zain vs Jmook is my new favorite grands, this set was sick! My jaw dropped so many times, the Randall tech was the cherry on top👌 these three commentators are probably my favorite alongside Stude, I usually dislike more than two commentators at a time but they gave each other space and kept it relevant to the match👍

I think HMW needs to tone down the random and irrelevant references a bit. It got better as the set went on, but I did find myself thinking at one point, "Can you just shut up for 1 minute?" He even admitted not really have great in depth knowledge on Marth to Vish. That just begs the question, "Why are you getting paid to be on the mic then?"
Because Melee is grassroots and all about popularity. The commentary is notorious for being dogshit but the gameplay is sick so it makes up for it

For example, Blur and Toph would have probably been more qualified for this match. However, any one of the melee commentators have shown they can really get off topic for long periods of time. I also don't know why they keep adding Hugs. That guy doesn't know anything about anything. lol I'm not even confident he could commentate a top level Samus match with any real insight.
