- Warhammer 40,000: Boltgun reviewed by Jon Bolding on PC. Also available on Xbox, PlayStation, and Nintendo Switch.
Boltgun impresses with Warhammer 40K chops and a fully realized vision of the famous franchise as a modern retro-shooter, light on story but heavy on action and nods to the tabletop game. The level design of its many fast-paced arena fights is enjoyable, but the momentum drags once the new weapon and enemy types run out about halfway through. Nonetheless, the quality's high enough that I never got bored - but I think someone who isn't hungry for a retro-shooter or any 40K game they can get their hands on might be a bit let down.

The game is awesome. Specially if you're WH40K fan and a Boomer Shooter veteran.
It's an easy 10/10 for me.

Tzeentch and Nurgle daemons are indeed rarely seen in mix. Both Tzeentch and Nurgle are each other’s arch enemies,… most of the time.
They were correct Lore wise.
Because tzench is always mean to papa nurgle >:(
It would have been cool if you had a room or two where you walk in on the two forces fighting one another similar to different species fighting in Doom.
Malum Caedo has that effect on Chaos Lords.
Giving this game a 7/10 is hideously underscoring it.
Its a masterpiece
Remember they gave DOOM (2016) a low score and the game is in the history books as one of the best games of recent years.

7/10 was a bit mean, this game is way better than forza. best game of the last two years.
The brief mention of getting to grips with the movement abilities and also the chainsword, but in the 8-10 hours IGN took to complete the campaign on whatever difficulty they ended up playing, it's pretty obvious from the game play shown that they never figured out that if you are in combat and you rev your chainsword up, you will leap towards the targetted enemy and slash into them...and this can be used to in effect to simulate you having a jump pack and doing a slam attack to rapidly jump all over the place. It's a technique that feels like 2011's Space Marine's assault marine slam attack, and it adds whole new levels of awesome to the game, especially in exterminatus difficulty where the added mobility can be the difference between surviving or dying ignominously. Seriously, 5 minutes into the game I'd figured it out and it added a massive amount of game play options that otherwise wouldn't have been available and made the game far less enjoyable to play and engage with.
The amount of times i've chucked myself off a cliff into a group of enemies while using that chainsword lock on attack is absurd

Figured it out immediately and felt so comfortable doing and a lot more usable than the meathook in doom eternal. Only up to the third level

The guitar is utterly terrible too. They could of had some show no mercy era slayer sound or bolt thrower style riffs.
Every review for a hyped game gets this response and it's so exhausting. Reviewer obviously prays the game and gives some light critique that is completely justified. The reviewer is so on point that there an extreme hunger for this game but for those that do not care for 40k or the setting and is just taking it on as any game as other, would see the faults clearly. The review wasn't underwhelming, it was on point, praised what needed to be praised and critiqued the relevant bits that needed it.

This game has gone FAR beyond my expectations so far! Only a few levels in and the gameplay is incredibly satisfying! Wish there was a map or objective marker, because it can get a little frustrating having to backtrack, and perhaps multiplayer, but maybe that can be implemented in a sequel. Overall, one of the most fun shooters and perhaps my favourite Warhammer game yet!

Trust me this game is worth a solid 10 as a boomer shooter it's everything lots of people just want in a game
The weapons are awesome and it also has the same rules with the weapons and enemy's as the table top game.
*pushes up nerd glasses* there’s technically a lore reason why the daemons of change don’t cooperate with the nurgle daemons. All four of the chaos gods are at war with each other in the warp, and they rarely unite to face common enemies

There’s a lot of them out there. Dusk, Cultic, Ultrakill, HROT, stuff like that

In the lore, nurgle and tzeentch are opposing so they (and their minions) tend to avoid each other (unless tzeentch has a plan)
Honestly my only issue with this game is the fact that you have no idea you’re being shot hit until you drop to like 30-40 health and your screen has that red ring around it. It bothers me that idk that I’m being shot

Pro tip for this IGN reviewer: if you have to count how many there are, there are more enemy types than the average shooter game. Including Doom. "Secrets are often hidden behind walls" Just say you've never played a Boomer shooter and pass the review to someone else bro. Don't review a game if you've never played its genre

Why is the movement in this review so slow and stilted compare to the other reviews I’m seeing? Is it a controller versus keyboard and mouse thing?
Looks like a mouse to me. But people at IGN aren’t used to these kinds of games and you can always see them playing things as if they’re modern military shooters.

This is easily one of the best things to have come out this year. Giving it a 7/10 (especially when they gave games like farcry primal a 7.9) is clown behavior.
Question ❓ if you have never played war hammer and also enjoyed doom gameplay loop cuz it's fun but this looks like a smaller file size than doom eternal 30gb size lol so would this work as like a decent small fill that void and the other classic fps action as there's not much on the switch but this seems fun.
