I just bought this system. You just saved me a lot of money. I've been shopping around for nutrients which are really expensive. I was looking at floragrow but didn't understand why I needed to spend so much money for "bloom" when I just want to grow basil. Your tip about the nutrients and how much to use-- perfect! I bought the same system as well. My thought was to start seedlings indoors for my outdoor garden. Does that make sense or are plants intended to mature to harvest in these systems? Do the roots come out of the net pots easily or do they break if removed?
Oh my god I can’t believe I found this video. I tossed this system in my closet 3 years ago because of the Chinese instructions. Thank you so much for taking the time to do this. 👍🏻👍🏻
Nice set up! I usually try to get all the dirt off the roots since it can contain bugs and/or bug eggs. I've had whole grows ruined by bugs that probably came from the dirt that I didn't wash off.
i didnt have trouble the whole kit is self explanitory. but i love it i use kelp extract for my nutrience and i switch out the sponges to rockwool had to shape and cut the rock wool

Haha...😁 I bought exactly the same unit and then I discovered your video. My unit came with not too bad English instructions but thanks for the vote of confidence. Add full strength at week 4...
Hi Ted - That's quite a nice setup for the price. Everything you need to get seeds started if you don't feel like building it yourself (though for me, building it is half the fun). Cheers!!
I am a newbie to hydroponics and just bought some supplies locally yesterday. I have my seeds in some rockwool right now and praying that they germinate. Been planting soil-based veggies for years but I'm hoping hydroponics keeps away a lot of the soil-based pests...like tomato hornworms! Yuck! Also, do you have suggestions for supporting the bush portion of hydroponic tomatoes? I've seen twine anchored to ceilings but I'll be putting my tub outdoors here in South Louisiana. Thanks for making this video!
"quite a nice setup for the price" and don't forget about the 300 Watt lamp which will give him huge bills for his hobby. 07:17 and if you buy an energy efficient lamp, the lamp itself will cost more than the money you saved on electricity. Right?
Oh, also they just wrote me last night and they are coming out with an intelligent hydroponic system. I don't know what that means but they said they would send one when the inventory arrives. I'm guessing like Aerogarden.
I realise this is an old post... but I am new to hydroponics and I am looking at this system on amazon. I wonder since it appears to be small, if you're limited to what you could grow in there? I am thinking I would like to grow dwarf/tiny tim tomatoes and strawberries in it.
Thanks for the review. I'm thinking of trying to grow leafy greens inside for the first time (like lettuce or kale). If I got this system what kind of light/wattage would you recommend for leafy greens?

@@TheCarmlsista No but it helps when using grow lights. You can also use the mylar emergency blankets in the camping section at Walmart. They are huge and about $1.
I love the idea of this unit, shame can't find in Europe. When grown, do you keep there or transplant into a bigger holed unit, or soil? I saw the same company, on Amazon sells a ''smart unit, with 18 holes' and led lights (but strange as on one photo looks like two large pots of basil in soil!) looks like an aerogrow style unit, have you tested that? And have you tested the aerogrow? Also do you have video for your homemade unit? I appreciate lots of questions, and off subject as well
The smart unit one will be here this week to try out. They just added that and the 4 hole one over the weekend. I don't know what the smart one is until it gets here. The other unit which I reviewed here is growing out of control and flowering. It does smell so good though. I'll take a photo today and post to Amazon. I got an Aerogarden in 2006 and showed it on and off in a few videos but it is not the same as they sell now. I did make a video years ago on how to build a unit but not a big unit, just a small one for herbs. Here is the link: th-cam.com/video/FxVHS9o5yDA/w-d-xo.html I don't mind questions :)
Hi Ted. Thanks for the informative. I'm just getting started with this .If you have any lights that u reviewed and don't need let me know?maybe I can buy them
Awesome work, i have a question regarding transplant shock, does this method help the roots to get used sooner to the new medium and minimize the transplant shock effect? or it is something inevitable for your plant ?

I was thinking like a humidity dome and rockwool or sponge cubes, but any other simple options out there?

I use the same strength throughout for basil. It's not a picky plant. The plants are doing extremely well and I just filmed that video last Sunday morning. I will do a follow up video at the 30 day mark. Oh, one thing I noticed is a bit of algae growth on the top of the sponges but that's fine.
Can this be used for one single cherry tomato plant? I started the seeds on my aerogarden but that will overcrowd it soon so thinking of buying a few of these and putting one tomato plant in each and cussing up the remainder of the holes.
