    Make A Mini Hydroponics System On A Budget - Grow Perfect Plants EVERY Time!
    Today on Grow It I'm making a DIY hydroponics system that's cheap to make and the best part is that you can take it anywhere.
    You can grow hydroponic lettuces, hydroponic tomatoes, hydroponic strawberries, anything!
    This system uses a USB rechargeable oxygenating pump, to make sure that the water stays loaded with oxygen to not only speed up, but also increase the yield of your hydroponic crops.

    Glad to have found you! Very helpful. I was given a bottle hydroponics kit & lettuce started off well but then went weird, didn’t say to let water drop so only roots were in it plus no oxygen circulation but may well just try something similar to your system here. Am following for my tips 😊

    • @GrowIt
      @GrowIt  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Oh no that’s a shame! There’s so many little things that can cause problems but it’s easy once you control them all! I hope your next lettuces work a bit better.

    Thanks for this, i am just getting started and really looking forward to setup my first home mini garden. Q: I see in other videos where water is circulated in pipes, wonder in this setup how often you need to replace the water.

    • @GrowIt
      @GrowIt  หลายเดือนก่อน

      Sorry I didn’t see your question, it’s generally the same in terms of water replacement depending on the size of the system. Usually it would be ok to add fresh water as needed since it will be lost through plant uptake and evaporation with a full change and clean every week. If it’s well oxygenated and treated with hydrogen peroxide it will last longer.

    When you have your rockwool-sprouted starters in the slotted pots, (without any roots showing), do you water them from the top? Or is the water underneath enough for them to receive nutrients? Does the water in the tub come into contact with the 3" slotted pots?

    • @GrowIt
      @GrowIt  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Hi! Yes the bottom of the pot touches the water by half a CM. The plugs absorb the water really well so there’s no need for watering. If you use clay pebbles, coir or another substrate in the pots around the plug, they will absorb water too.

    Would you find it better for future boxes to use an opaque color to avoid the hydrogen peroxide treatments? Are you fighting any algae growth now the the hydrogen peroxide has subsided? Thank you for sharing. Love the video.

    • @GrowIt
      @GrowIt  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Andrew, I'm glad you liked the video! It definitely is better to use opaque boxes, but I haven't had any problems with algae in the transparent ones. I use hydrogen peroxide weekly anyway (2ml/L) in all of my systems, it keeps on top of any algal, fungal and bacterial contamination. If it's a problem it can be upped to 2-3 days between treatments of 1ml/L.
      It's also a lot cheaper to get generic 12% hydrogen peroxide than using branded stuff targeted at cannabis growers!

    • @thefutureofgardening5912
      @thefutureofgardening5912 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@GrowIt Thank you very much! I personally would enjoy a situation where I can watch through the boxes as the plants grow and progress. Your hydrogen peroxide solution is genius. Thank you.

    • @jhangfk
      @jhangfk 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      How do you charge the battery, is a cable provided to recharge. Anyway good battery lasts 6 months to a year as long keep charging whenever needs like mobile phone's.

    • @GrowIt
      @GrowIt  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It came with a USB micro-B cable for recharging, there’s a port on the side with rubber cover. I turn it off at night and it last around 5 days on a charge. I think it works plugged in too.

    Hello, how much water is in? I mean, how high is the water level on the cup with rocks? should it only be touching the water or completely submerged? Thank you

    • @GrowIt
      @GrowIt  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I usually find that it works well if the pot is submerged by around 2cm/1 inch. As long as the stones can wick the water stop the roots drying out until they grow down into the nutrients.

      I use 1ml of 12% hydrogen peroxide per litre of water, which is suitable for everyday use. Hopefully I should have an update on Tuesday this week, the watermelon one is going berserk I can’t believe it!

    Just a question. Since its a clear container, wont it have an algae issue?
    Edit: Ah hydrogen peroxide. gotcha

    • @GrowIt
      @GrowIt  5 หลายเดือนก่อน +3

      Spot on yes, the hydrogen peroxide does help but there is still algae in the places the water doesn’t touch like the lid due to condensation. It’s better to use a black tub but I could only get see through ones at the time!
