At first month of my pigs I was following the instructions from the vitamins and mineral premixes. Since I was a little worried because my 105 piglets have to adjust the feeds . Some of them were having diarrhea. I lost one which is okay. I weighed them after 1 month and 26 heads weights 51.48lbs, next 19 head’s weights 46.6 lbs then third is 24 heads weights 38.28 lbs and the smallest are 35 heads that’s weight 30.8 lbs. Going to the second month I was using your formula and my 104 piglets love it and they are now on the second weeks feeding with your feed formula they grow up so fast. This coming January 15th we will weigh them to monitor how much growth they have. I’m planing to harvest them when they reach in 4 months. So April is the target. I’m hoping each of them could reach to 105 kilos or 231 lbs this April.

With this mixture you are probably averaging a 16 % protein feed. I use the Pierson square method and a large hammer mill mixer and use the same ingredients. The protein content can change with different brands of soymeal and corn as they do not all have the same protein content. The good thing about soymeal is that it has a good amount of lysine and shouldn’t need to add any as it can be hard to get and expensive.

Hi. I worked with my uncle raising pigs. He had over 2000 at times. He raised the corn he fed them. We used mostly corn in the feed. He added minerals, vitamins and antibiotics to the feed. He had a feed mill that was driven by a tractor to make the feed. It cracked the corn and mixed it. Then we would drive the tractor pulling the mill thru the pens and fill each feeder with the food. The pigs liked it.
Have you ever experimented with other things in the food? Like grass, corn fodder, silage or anything?

I feed my pigs for free $$$$.
I get free slop from the local public schools, free whey from the sheep cheese farm, and free veggies from the vegetable market.
I have to buy the minerals.
Now that i have my own boar I have no acquisition costs for new pigs.
I do supplement with corn and wheat. I do not like soy so much.
But I only use the corn for finishing my pigs as they get so big with just good ole slop.

  • @marrianecruz7565

Doing some basic maths I think based on $185 feed costs p/head, it looks as if each pig would consume approximately 12 sacks of corn @ $8 a pop ($96), 3 bags of soymeal @ $17 a go ($51) and 1 pack of minerals @ $30. Total of $177 so a little off target but close enough.

Check with your local feed or co-op center and I am sure you will be able to find some sort of mineral pre-mix fro swine. Even though it's another brand, I am sure it will work the same. Brand is not that important, it is the contents that matter, so be sure to look for the mineral mix for swine/pigs. Good luck

So I have to ask: do you make your own chicken feed as well?
We're looking to do this & there's so many recipes.

I have not made my own chicken feed yet, but it can easily be done. There are many different grains you can choose from and mix them all together. This way, you control what your chickens are eating. Currently, I do not have any chickens, but when I do eventually get them again, I will also be making my own chicken feed.

The exact brand of mineral mix I use is only sold here by a local farmer who buys it in bulk from the manufacturer that I am aware of and I contacted them to see if they will ship out to others interested, but they will not, unfortunately. Check with your local feed or co-op center and I am sure you will be able to find some sort of mineral pre-mix fro swine. Even though it's another brand, I am sure it will work the same. Brand is not that important, it is the contents that matter, so be sure to look for the mineral mix for swine/pigs. Good luck

How often do you deworm the pigs? Since we don’t change the feeding formula from after weaning to harvest? After 2 months of using your formula my pigs have grown so much weight. But I wanna know if I have to deworm them every month?

    • @ShrimpOutdoors
      @ShrimpOutdoors  9 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

I dewormed them once before taking them to the butcher. The best I remember, it was 4-6 weeks before taking them in for processing. But, just to be sure, read the de-worming label, as it should tell you how long you should wait to process after treatment. I know the treatment needs to get out of their system so do the research to be sure because it has been so long I cannot remember exactly.
