I have the original Q that is much cheaper than the q2 but still has the main reason these cameras are amazing. The lens. I’m a fujifilm fanboy. I manage a community of almost 1000 members to prove that :) but I would not trade my Q for the V. I would probably keep both :) first reason is the lens. Plus 28mm 1.7 on a full frame sensor does have a special look that I just love. The sharpness of the summilux and the fact that I don’t sem to be able to flare with this lens…. Anyway the V has its own advantages. The 35mm equivalente lens, the x-trans sensor that I do really like and the compact style. The price is not a big difference for me because my Q costed me about 2k second hand. Like new. The silver version that was released in 2018 I think. I understand the switch but I would never do it. I would just keep both :)))
X100V. More affordable and 35mm focal length equivalent. If I had the budget to buy the Q2... probably I'd bought an M instead. Why? Interchangeable lens. Well manual focus is... I don't mind.
@@kylemeshna a diffusion filter can be used as an alternative for negative clarity. I personally use a Tiffen Black Pro-Mist 1/4, which would be roughly the equivalent of -3 or -4 clarity.
I have clarity turned off. I do a lot of exposure bracketing and it doesn't work on that mode. You can apply clarity in camera afterwards. I often do a quick in-camera edit instead of bringing it into lightroom.
This has probably already been said in the comments, but the only setting that slows down the write speed is the clarity setting. Set it to zero on your jpeg settings and there’s no issue.
@@kylemeshna Which means probably all of them stumbled over this just the way you did. Myself included! Fuji should really fix this in a firmware-update if possible or remove clarity as an in-camera option.
I have both cameras and enjoy both… the x100v feels more technically advanced but the image quality of the full frame q2 is far better. I enjoy both but if I want sharp high res images it’s the q2.
But I’m sure that the sensor on the Q2 is amazing though, it’s just that people sometimes forget about the lens factor on image quality. BTW I wish Fuji just let go their X-Trans sensors in favor of a ‘’normal’’ cmos sensor like the one that was in the original X100 back in 2011, it was an amazing sensor (made by Sony) but nonetheless amazing. ✌
I’ve owned both and sold the x100v. For me it all came down to image quality, sharpness, detail etc. the other factors for me were nice to haves but not needs and that includes price. The Fuji is a great camera and I’d probably buy one with some sort of stabilization in the future but for now the q2 is the winner for me. As a note I took both on a vaca and compared images and frankly there was no comparison.
Afraid not. That Leica lens is tack sharp and for me that’s paramount. I should probably lay off the pixel peeping but softness in certain images drives me nuts!
The thing with the Q2 is that it has a 47mp FF sensor, giving not only much better lowlight performance but also the ability to crop into the image without losing resolution. You could easily crop your images to reflect using either a 35mm or 50mm lens without issue. I will admit though that its nice to have a native 35mm lens.
You do realise that lower megapixel cameras perform better in low light, why do you think Sonys A7S 12.2mp sensor was legendary for video when it came out for its low light capability, less photo sites = better low light performance. The only benefit is that its full frame vs APS C in this scenario so it can collect more light.
@@spincityvisuals This isn't quite right. Lower MP cameras give the effect of less noise as the noise is reduced in size (more efficient photosite-to-pixel ratio). But the Q2 has a 35mm sensor (which is over twice the size of the X100's APS-C sensor. Setting the Q2 to 35mm focal length mode will give you an image taken on a crop of the sensor slightly larger than the X100's, with half a stop of extra light (f/1.7 vs f/2). Obviously, it's down to personal preference. Fuji's images look very different to Leica's. And if finance is an issue for you, the X100 is a great budget option. But the Q2 has better credentials and ability when it comes to creating 35mm images.
One way to deal with the accidental shutter release when focusing is to set the camera for back-button focus. Then the shutter button only acts as the shutter release.
I have the Fuji X100F and a Leica Q. Absolutely love the X100F, it’s fantastic. The Q manages to be better it in every way, it’s FF and the image quality is next level. The Q is more special and personally I would not swap it for a Q2, unless maybe a monochrome Q2 🤔. Good video, comparing these two though, really enjoyed it. I kept my X100F as it’s classic, and easier to Chuck in my pocket, will pass on the X100V. Q2 is pricey, but weather sealed 🤔, however after buying a D700 and some glass cheap over lockdown for the trip out in all weathers, I then picked up a D850 and I have been picking up decent classic lens as people rush to trade for mirrorless.
Sold the x100v for a used Q1 last year. Zero regrets apart from the flip screen. V is a fantastic camera but the Leica Q Is definitely a step in terms of IQ.
BTW, the X100V lens is technically not a "pancake", because unlike interchangeable lens cameras, the sensor is set further back into the body (check the sensor mark on top of the body), so it's actually a proper prime lens. Additionally, I'm not sure if this will help with film recipes, but for film simulations, you can just shoot RAW (or RAW + JPEG) and adjust after the shot, and the camera will create another JPEG based on the film simulation. If you're only doing this on the fly for 2-5% of your photos, this might help your speed, as long as you have the RAW file. You can also do the same adjustments on a laptop with the Fuji RAW Studio app as well. Hope this will help.
Funny, but i am going the other way! I have a Fuji X100V and it's an amazing camera, but have always felts something lacking with it. I wanted a full framed camera that I could travel with, so I just ordered the Leica Q2. Wish me luck!
@@kylemeshna Yup, it stings but I am taking some once in a lifetime trips in the next couple of years. So, that is how i justify it!! Thanks for all your content. It's fantastic!
Hey, love your videos first of all. I’ve been a Fujifilm user for the past 3 years almost, and I love their system its great. And I agree the film recipes are a huge part of why I love it. What’s funny is social media especially tiktok has made the x100v so popular that they cant keep up with orders and the price has inflated. Thing is, recipes are available on all fuji cameras not just the x100v (not sure about all but certainly most). I also think regular people see good photos taken with recipes and just think that they can do the same. They don’t realize they still have to learn the basics of composition, light etc… There’s a strong feeling that a new version will come out sometime in 2024 but who knows! Great video as always. And yes the delay when storing is due to the clarity.
Yeah social media has certainly been a huge factor in the x100v becoming so popular. I believe it’s because it’s one of the most approachable / affordable cameras that can make use of the recipes. No need for purchasing lenses etc. Also very much agree that the camera won’t make you a better photographer. But it may inspire folks to get out and shoot more, which definitely will!
Interesting comparison. As a 50mm sorta guy I'm waiting in fear for the Q3 50mm. One combo you might enjoy is the XPro3 paired with a Voigtlander manual lense for the X mount of you choice. I enjoy the 35/1.2 and I work around the softness wide open, although for portraits the effect is quite ethereal and most welcomed by women 35yo+... Cheers!
I like the fuji shutter, becasue it allows me to twist in a manual shutter cable which is probablly still from the pre-digital age. Works like charm on a tripod.
I’m conflicted with Leica. Most of my photography hero’s used a Leica. That says something. The objection you mentioned and I can’t overcome is the Leica price. $4-6k for a body and up to $5k for a lens. Leica goes beyond the point of diminishing marginal return. I’m not paying for tradition. I’m not paying for design. It comes down that the Leica light capture machine is too expensive for me. I’ve tried different bodies when I can borrow one from the local ca, Mega store. Thank you Glazer’s. I don’t like the lack of technology in many Leica bodies. I like autofocus. I like IBIS. I like the ability to take video despite not using this feature very much. I do street photography. I walk for miles and hours at a time. I value small size and light weight. APSC gives me what I need. Sometimes good enough is good enough. Mask On Nurse Marty (Ret)
Don't get me wrong and apologies if I sound rude, but I think the main reason is, he got the Leica out of hype and the expected straight out of the camera results were not justifiable given the price difference between the Q2 and X100V, hence the turn back.
Nah. Maybe go check out my Q2 video and you’ll see more about my thoughts. I never expected straight out of camera results with it. I just really enjoy the straight out of camera results on the Fuji
I currently Fuji X-T30ii and really confused when it took 1 2 seconds to store the photo. But the quick and easy fix is to turn your clarity to 0 and it will snap instantly. If you adjust it to a number different than 0 it will take time to process the photo. Hope it will help and thanks for the video.
I prefer the Q system in every way, other than the 28 (24) vs 35. I much prefer 35 (or 50). But having seen the Q images I couldn’t go back to the Fuji. So I own neither currently.
I really like the x100v. Over two decades I tried a bridge camera, a full DSLR setup and an RX100v from Sony. They all made me return to my Nikon FM. But the x100v is just great for me and my purposes. Only annoyance is that my nose is constantly changing the focal point on the display when shooting vertically. Apparently my nose is too big 🎉
Today, it is possible to get a 'mint' condition secondhand Q2 for as little as £2500 here in the UK. That has got to be a strong argument for the Q2 over the over-hyped Fuji?
I sold my Fuji and bought a Q2. I don’t think I’ve ever been less satisfied with a camera than the V. I’ve had other Fuji cameras and liked them a lot. But the Q2 is another level altogether (subjectively). I can’t see myself ever getting rid of it as my EDC.
I had an X100S and went to the Q, sold the Q, and later got a Q2. The X100 is a great camera. I don't remember exactly how, but there is a way to autofocus the X100 to get you close and then manual focus to fine tune - that's how I did manual focus with it. The main thing I prefer about the Q2 is the image stabilization... and then there's the overall image quality of the Q2 which is stellar. But man, nobody does color like Fuji. And the flash on the X100 is like some kind of black art going on in there, it looks really good. Honestly, if I sold my Leica stuff and got an X100V with the 28mm and 50mm attachments, I would still be quite happy and have a good chunk of $ left over. I'm sticking with the Leica, but you can't go wrong with either one.
The delay in saving the photo is because of the clarity setting. Always turn this off regardless if the recipe says it all not. Great video man. Subbed
I knew I wouldn't want to be stuck with only 28mm on the Q2, so I bought an M10. I bought a used one and camera is perfectly aligned with my 50 1.2 Nokton, even wide-open. I don't care for wide-angle lenses like 28 or 35 for everyday use. They push everything too far away.
I owned a variation of both at the same time. I had the Leica Q typ 116 and the Fuji X100F. Both were great, but I rarely grabbed the fuji. I really liked the Q. The fuji wasn't small enough to be pocketable, so the size savings didn't matter. I ended up selling both. My plan was to buy a Q2 for the weather sealing alone. I ended up finding a deal on the Q2 Monochrome and went with that instead.
@@kylemeshna Not really. If I want to shoot color, I reach for a different camera. I don't feel the need to purchase or trade for a "regular" Q2 either. The black and white images out of the Q2M are pretty spectacular. I definitely debated it quite a bit before I took the plunge. If it were my only camera, I'd probably go for color. But I like making the choice upfront when I grab my Q2M - I'm shooting b&w today.
It really is perfect for that. I honestly don’t even share them online very often. Just keep ‘em for the memories or share them with the person who I was with
If the Q2 were the same price as the X100V, which would you choose? Right?? The Q2 is miles ahead of the X100V in every category. The X100V can be adapted to use the WCL lens, the Q2 can be cropped to achieve a narrower FOV, so they are both "flexible" in that sense, although the Q2 doesn't need an additional lens. The Q2 is weather sealed out of the box, the X100V isn't (needs a filter and adapter). The Q2 is full frame, better image quality, better low light performance, better lens, better built. I own a X-Pro2 and GFX50R, and love them both, so I have nothing against Fujifilm, but to justify switching from the Q2 to the X100V seems to price savings related only.
The Q2 offers what other cameras simply cannot. Literally no other camera can replace it. Whether or not one needs what it offers is a different question. It's wild that people obsess over comparing the two simply because they're both fixed lens cameras. Would we compare an A7S to GFX100 because they both have interchangeable lenses?
Yeah I’ve actually swapped back to the Q2 now that the used price is reduced so much. And been shooting with the Q3 for a while now as well. That vid will be out on Sunday 🤘🏻
After sincerely listening to your reasons for choosing the x100v, and then all of its shortcomings, in addition to having to pay a steep premium to just be able to purchase a second hand copy, I think I’ll get the q2 and enjoy the art of photography. I had an x100f and grew tired of it quickly. I don’t think that will be the case with the Leica. But if it is, it will hold its value so the risk is minimal.
Since making this video, the Q3 was released, which has been great for prices of the Q2. I ended up finding a used q2 for $3200 and ended up switching back. I think you’re making the right choice. It’s a much more pleasurable camera to use and it inspires me to take photos more than the x100v ever did
@@kylemeshna I’m glad to hear that. I think you will be much happier in the long run. I’m not disrespecting the x100v, but I think the q2 is a definite step up, and is a camera you will grab and take with you on days you would leave the Fuji at home. I wish you well with your new camera.
Nearly there with a Contax G1 and 45mm ziess, if only film was more readily available and affordable again 🤔😆, still it’s a treat. Need stick the lens on a digital body 🤔🥳
Truthfully i Japan, HCB using film, neededt oget closer, beacause of the crowds! We know that as population soars! HCB used mainly the 35mm.(Ernst Haas in interview).
The not a 35mm lens complaint on a Q2 is rubbish though. If you shoot it in 35mm lens crop mode. You will get a 35mm F1.9 equivalent fullframe lens in depth of field. That is still better than a fuji x100v that has an equivalent 35mm F3.0 fullframe lens in depth of field. AND You still get more megapixels /higher resolution than an x100v even after the crop.
Nice video Kyle! Unfortunately every Sony camera I purchased (A7III, A7IV and ZV1, ZV E10) don't have chargers :D Btw, if you hold the switch for the EVF/OVF, you can also turn on the ND filter. I sold my X100V and got the Q2 monochrome - such a low light beast :)
90% of the photos I see on Flick taken with the Leira are always out of focus and noisy. If you're a Flick user, share your photos with the Leica Q2 so I can see the quality of photos from those who know how to use it.
Your shutter button might be broken, I had the same issue and got it repaired. Now there is a clear separation between focus and exposure. But beware of the repair time… might take really long based on the current part shortages.
IMO, going from leica to fuji is a step backwards. the x100v is still a great camera. If you can be content with the x100v, then you're set. I typically start looking around and getting camera fomo. probably why im using a m11 now...I loved my q2. if the q3 is 35mm, id probably go back.
Good video. Just a little tip if you’ve not been told in a comment already. When you make your recipes don’t touch the clarity and it should store instantly with out having to wait to take your next shot
I moved similar way away from the Q2 but had slightly different findings. I found that there was a noticeable image quality in favour of the Q2 with default Lightroom raw imports. If you are a RAW editor in a Lightroom workflow I think it’s worth being aware of the differences in sensor layout and the impact / importance on your choice of raw developer to get the most out of Fuji’s xtrans. Initially I had thought that the lens , acuity of the Fuji was sub par relative to the Leica. After running some tests based on Thomas Fitzgeralds Xtrans raw developer workflows I discovered that this was not a ‘soft lens’ issue, but a workflow issue. In an Xtrans raw friendly workflow like capture one or especially DXO or Iridient developer, the detail and accuity that the X100v can pick up is right up there with the Q2 in my humble opinion (Minus obvious sensor resolution differences) and for my tastes I actually find the output from this workflow to look much better on the Fuji than from the Leica. Other things that I was hoping to share - I find the missing joystick on the X100v to be disappointing, i prefer the joystick on the 100F. I don’t really like the swipe gestures. The Leica manual focus feel is vastly superior IMHO. However I do not feel that the Leica build quality feels hugely better than the X100 with the exception of the side door on the X100v. Anyway enjoy your x100v, I do feel that it’s a camera that you love more and more as you use it more and more.
I have an XT4 and X100V, I agree DXO raw processing in its 2023-24 form is amazing for the Fuji 4th generation sensors. I am using photolab 7 elite. That said, I have dialed in a few film recipes that make me happy straight out camera pretty often. Keep making photographs and learning about the the tools!
I am totally stressed. I purchased a new XPro3 and kitted it out with 23mmf2, 16mmf2.8 and 35mmf2 a few months ago. I love the camera, the IQ, handling and size. Its my EDC camera. I want the Q2 and I don't know why. I nearly purchased from the Leica online store but pulled out. I know they are a superb camera but the little voice inside me started asking why am I buying a camera with locked focal length when my XPro 3 covers more? I dont really believe in the crop modes on the Q2 and to be honest think you have to be kidding yourself in thinking its going to solve your 28 only focal length limit. Yes the Q2 has 47mp of resolution but when I sat down and thought about it, I have never ever printed a photo any larger than 5x7. All my photos live on my drives and I enjoy them by looking at them in my screen. The whole " look at me, I have a Leica" thing really isn't a reason. I dunno....perhaps its the overwhelming amount of Q2 videos on TH-cam that make one feel that without owning one they are missing out. I downloaded some RAW DNG files made with a Q2 and played with them on PS and really couldn't see anything exciting aside from the resolution which is achievable with an X-T5. If they were $3000 cheaper then I probably wouldnt be typing this and would probably have snapped one up, but for 28mm I really actually know I will get buyers remorse once it lands here and I see that the XPro will probably get more use as it offers greater flexibility. Thanks for making the video. I don't believe you made the wrong decision. The X100V is very good and at the end of the day you saved lots of money and should you post fuji or leica photos on social media who can tell on a smartphone screen what camera did what.
Appreciate the thoughtful comment! I think you’ve made a great decision with your setup. It’ll cover all your basis and then some, plus it’s a super fun and unique camera to shoot with. Not to mention, the Q3 is about to release in a few days and it’ll cause a whole new flood of videos to make you want a Leica again 😂 just resist the urge! You don’t need it haha
Thanks for a well-balanced review, Kyle. Every viewer will have his own priorities and without the urge to share fotos on social media immediately, my preference remains with the Q. Yes, the Q which features the strongest talents of the Q2 but can be picked up at a much reduced price from the second hand market. I absolutely love this camera for the reasons you mention, and I love the 28 mm look. For everything else I keep an older Sony RX1 that I also cannot bring myself to sell 😉
Whatever works to you is the camera makes more sense. Personally , Q2 is a better choice… a way superior lens, better sensor, IQ, ergonomic, control layout, EVF, manual focus experience, built quality, the luxury feel in hand, OIS, true IP rated weather resistance are what differentiate Q2 from other options. I PP almost all pictures, so I don’t use film Sim which is the biggest advantageous feature Fuji has over the Leica.
Guys, simple canon 250d (sl3) with pancake 24mm f/2.8 lens and you will have small camera, with great 6000x4000 images and you won't complain about anything. You will have optical viewfinder, dual pixel autofocus with eye detection on live view, everything extremely easy to use without stupid drawback like in italian cars. In fact in that price you can get dslr, 24mm pancake lens and Tokina 50mm f/1.4 for stunning resoults. Whenever you want an upgrade from your phone, just buy cheap dslr and 50mm f/1.4 lens tokina or sigma and you will instantly feel resoults.
Hi, dont know if you will see this message, but I think you have it wrong that recipes makes saving slow. There is a setting in all (modern) FujiFilm cameras caller "Clarity". And it is documented in the manual that setting clarity to either a positive or negative value (like in many recipes), it will slow down the processing after taking the shot. So, if you do not want the slow extra processing of clarity, stick to recipes that do to use it, or, if you like the recipe, just change the clarity to 0, and check how much of a difference it makes to the overall look - most likely not that much...
Excellent choice, Sir! Got the Q2 second hand, juuust to scratch that Leica itch. After testing it side by side my trusted Fuji, the difference was ASTONISHING! There was no difference. Ye, nah! User experience wise, side by side, sure, the leica is fantastic. But not 3500USD price differnece fantastic. Selling mine. Great experience, Leica, but no thanks.
My photos got substantially better switching from Fuji to Leica q system. I attribute it to full frame being more flexible in lower light. Money aside I would never trade. I do miss Fujis jpegs. I felt like AF on Leica was more accurate as well.
Well well, I have the Q and a D-lux 7 and an M4 and I'm soooo curious about getting a xt5... but my Q and M4 I can't sell, no way, so it leaves my D-lux 7 which has a micro 4:3 and renders incredibly nice photos but since I got the Q I don'T use it much anymore but when I do I'm amazed... so how am I going to get a XT5?? gee the bank is gonna love me
maybe an Xpro3 and a pancake lens would be a better option with all the issues the x100v comes with !? I was considering it to go with my XH2 and 2s but no charger and different battery, a crappy shutter button, etc so although would be a nice walk-around camera I will wait for the next version which hopefully some of the issues maybe fixed along with the same upgraded battery of the later models.
Good point about the leaf shutter with ugly bokeh. Not many people mention it. That said, with a 2 stop ND, the effective shutter speed is about 1/8000 which is even faster than most consumer cameras and Leica cameras so that's a win I think.
I had the x100v and traded it for the Leica Q. I agree that fuji in terms of customisation has a lot more to offer, that said I like the overall handeling of the Leica and the lens on it is from a different planet and as a result the image quality is awesome. Why did you choose the the x100v instead of the XE4 or XT30II? Both have identical specs and are cheaper plus allow you to shoot with whatever focal length you chose?
I suppose, but I am glad I tried one, just put black tape over the red dots, and no one knows what it is 🥳, perfect. I am interested in the image, I would use a potato if it had the image quality. 😆
if you don't want the camera to store the pictures for that long just don't adjust the clarity in camera. if you want less clarity just use a bloom filter!
I have both. Traded all my Fuji gear for some Leica but couldn’t get myself to get rid of the 100v. They both have their roles (mainly custom recipes for 100v).
I prefer the focal length of the Leica and love the full frame aspect, I hate the built in forced noise reduction to raw files. I like a lot of what the x100v has to offer, sadly, they are not available.
Haha, I sold my Q2 too, but to buy a Q3. Only unfortunately I was so stupid to think I can just order a Q3 and then get it delivered 2 days later. It's impossible at the moment. With the X100V it is also hard, but by chance there was just one in stock, which I bought now to have at least one camera. Sounds a bit decadent, but I did have the money from the Q2 I sold and may now postpone the Q3 purchase until the first used ones hit the market. Or I'll stick with the X100V. But I'm afraid that at some point I'm going to miss the value feel of the Q - even though the Fuji feels anything but cheap, there is a difference. Greetings from Germany!
The X100V is very good, but not brilliant. However where is comes into its own is for snowboarding / action sports. It’s small weatherproof and with no image stabilisation it copes with extreme vibration.
Yeah it can create some angular bokeh at high shutters. It does indeed help when using the flash though. It reduces that flash banding that you get on higher shutter speeds ona traditional mechanical shutter
Warning: One thing I found out about buying or putting in older batteries, is the camera works much slower and I mean much much slower! Once I got rid of all my older batteries and just use the one that came with the camera, things went much better!
Would you prefer the Q2 or the x100v?
The x100v
I think if fuji had the focus tab and removed focus by wire then I probably wouldn’t have jumped ship.
Money aside, FF over APS-C. Simple as that.

X100V. More affordable and 35mm focal length equivalent. If I had the budget to buy the Q2... probably I'd bought an M instead. Why? Interchangeable lens. Well manual focus is... I don't mind.
The delay is caused by using Clarity in a recipe.
+1 turn off clarity
Fair enough. Many recipes do have this included though so it’s certainly an annoyance
@@kylemeshna if your recipe uses clarity and you want faster shooting you can put the camera in burst mode and it turns the clarity off.

now that the x100vi is out and comes with ibis, time to sell the leica then?
If you want better low light performance get the rx1rii from Sony. Beautiful rendering and better low light performance than the Q2.
You’re gonna enjoy all but the hit to the pocket book haha
@@kylemeshna Yup, it stings but I am taking some once in a lifetime trips in the next couple of years. So, that is how i justify it!! Thanks for all your content. It's fantastic!
@@leafsfan71 Epic. where you heading?
Hey, love your videos first of all.
I’ve been a Fujifilm user for the past 3 years almost, and I love their system its great. And I agree the film recipes are a huge part of why I love it. What’s funny is social media especially tiktok has made the x100v so popular that they cant keep up with orders and the price has inflated. Thing is, recipes are available on all fuji cameras not just the x100v (not sure about all but certainly most).
I also think regular people see good photos taken with recipes and just think that they can do the same. They don’t realize they still have to learn the basics of composition, light etc…
There’s a strong feeling that a new version will come out sometime in 2024 but who knows!
I find using back button focusing is critical on the x100… to avoid distinguishing between half and full shutter button pressing.
The aftermarket shutter buttons are well known to break the shutter release mechanism after continued use. Best not used.
Cheers!
I really want to try the XPro3 next. I really enjoyed my Voigtlander 40mm for Sony when I had it, so think that'd be a fun combo for sure
women 35+ = milfs
I like the fuji shutter, becasue it allows me to twist in a manual shutter cable which is probablly still from the pre-digital age. Works like charm on a tripod.
Yeah fair point. I’ve always done Bluetooth remotes in this digital age
I’ve tried different bodies when I can borrow one from the local ca,
Mega store.

>Most of my photography hero’s used a Leica. That says something.
> I’m not paying for tradition.
Conflicting statements, mate
You gotta turn off touchscreen focus.
😂😂
Today, it is possible to get a 'mint' condition secondhand Q2 for as little as £2500 here in the UK. That has got to be a strong argument for the Q2 over the over-hyped Fuji?
Absolutely. I swapped back to a used Q2. A
Nd recently a Q3 upgrade too
I moved the other way. I really wanted to like the Fuji, but finally prefer the Q2 by a lot. However, there is a price tag on it.
Yeah the Q2 is definitely better, but I’m happy to have the fx3 as well haha
Wow. My x100V lens is super sharp, cannot imagine this being a weakness. It does need IBIS in the next version.
It’s definitely sharp but hard to beat the Leica
@@kylemeshna Thx. Good video.
Do you find the monochrome limiting at all?
@@kylemeshna Not really. If I want to shoot color, I reach for a different camera. I don't feel the need to purchase or trade for a "regular" Q2 either. The black and white images out of the Q2M are pretty spectacular. I definitely debated it quite a bit before I took the plunge. If it were my only camera, I'd probably go for color. But I like making the choice upfront when I grab my Q2M - I'm shooting b&w today.
I agree with Buckley. I have a Q2 Monochrom and three high quality color digital cameras, and I tend to gravitate to the Q2M.
A Q2M 🥳🥳, very nice.
I need to add the X100V to my lineup. Once you said it was perfect to capture the moments that matter I knew it was time to save up for one.
It really is perfect for that. I honestly don’t even share them online very often. Just keep ‘em for the memories or share them with the person who I was with
The very early Leicas are the ones in my mind give the hold and feel nostalgia, and reinvest your money without you worrying to much !
Likewise!
Can we all just agree that a 50mm equivalent fixed lens camera is what we truly need? Let's go Henry Cartier-Bresson on this.
I’d be VERY hyped on that as an option
Nearly there with a Contax G1 and 45mm ziess, if only film was more readily available and affordable again 🤔😆, still it’s a treat. Need stick the lens on a digital body 🤔🥳
Truthfully i Japan, HCB using film, neededt oget closer, beacause of the crowds! We know that as population soars! HCB used mainly the 35mm.(Ernst Haas in interview).
„Moments-that-matter-cameras“ love this! Makes me want one as well! 🔥📸
Yessss the best!
Unfortunately every Sony camera I purchased (A7III, A7IV and ZV1, ZV E10) don't have chargers :D
Btw, if you hold the switch for the EVF/OVF, you can also turn on the ND filter.
I sold my X100V and got the Q2 monochrome - such a low light beast :)
90% of the photos I see on Flick taken with the Leira are always out of focus and noisy. If you're a Flick user, share your photos with the Leica Q2 so I can see the quality of photos from those who know how to use it.
Fuji photographers are so evangelical, and rightly so! They are producing incredible cameras!
Why not a small traditional full frame, like Sony A7 series, with a pancake lens (35 or 50mm)? Still cheaper than a Q2. Welcome inputs!
I have an X100V. I can't wait to swap it for a Leica Q3. Quality over quantity.
Absolutely. I’ve swapped back to the Q2 since this video and should be getting my Q3 as soon as my local camera shop gets its next shipment in
Great video and that is some beautiful b-roll and shots
Yeah many folks have pointed this out!
Well I do hope it’s helped the storage because my camera is so quick
My fav parts are all the compliments for the Leica Q2
😂😂😂 gotta justify it somehow
What did you sell the Q2 for? have you factored in that loss?besides overpaying for the Fuji.
I made a profit on the q2
@@kylemeshna WOW thats great I bought mine in 2019 for 5K when I sold it the new ones were 5700, So you bought the Q2 used for a good price?
You don’t need it haha
i don't think it's recipes in general that slow it down. It's anything that enables "Clarity", whether you do that with a recipe or some other way.
Definitely want the x100v! Hoping to save up for it this year 🙏🏼
Dooiiiiiiit
I have both cameras. Working with the Q2 is awesome!

Only happens if you have clarity on you film sim, otherwise its fine.
Yep lots of folks have mentioned this 🙂
The fuji controls (besides the focus/shutter) are ❤
great video:D
Excellent choice, Sir! Got the Q2 second hand, juuust to scratch that Leica itch. After testing it side by side my trusted Fuji, the difference was ASTONISHING! There was no difference. Ye, nah! User experience wise, side by side, sure, the leica is fantastic. But not 3500USD price differnece fantastic. Selling mine. Great experience, Leica, but no thanks.
I was on board for a lot of your comments, but the inclusion of a leaf shutter is a plus imo, not a con.
My photos got substantially better switching from Fuji to Leica q system. I attribute it to full frame being more flexible in lower light. Money aside I would never trade. I do miss Fujis jpegs. I felt like AF on Leica was more accurate as well.
peeped your IG - your photos still suck, so maybe try Sony next.
When you add clarity to your recipy the camera takes a bit of time to save. If your recipy doesn't have it, it's just as fast as an iPhone.
This Fuji looks amazing with its old style aesthetics.
Agreed. Fuji makes some cool lookin cameras
Good point about the leaf shutter with ugly bokeh. Not many people mention it. That said, with a 2 stop ND, the effective shutter speed is about 1/8000 which is even faster than most consumer cameras and Leica cameras so that's a win I think.
will you please tell me where you got that camera strap?

I had the x100v and traded it for the Leica Q. I agree that fuji in terms of customisation has a lot more to offer, that said I like the overall handeling of the Leica and the lens on it is from a different planet and as a result the image quality is awesome. Why did you choose the the x100v instead of the XE4 or XT30II? Both have identical specs and are cheaper plus allow you to shoot with whatever focal length you chose?
Buying a Leica is never a practical decision, its a brand lifestyle choice
I suppose, but I am glad I tried one, just put black tape over the red dots, and no one knows what it is 🥳, perfect. I am interested in the image, I would use a potato if it had the image quality. 😆
it was a very good decision. congratulations
if you don't want the camera to store the pictures for that long just don't adjust the clarity in camera. if you want less clarity just use a bloom filter!
I have both. Traded all my Fuji gear for some Leica but couldn’t get myself to get rid of the 100v. They both have their roles (mainly custom recipes for 100v).
Btw this had 100v since day one before its 2nd hand price sky rocketed.
I liked when you talked about the customization on the X100V and the built in ND filter and dials, etc.
The nd filter is 🤌🏻
@@kylemeshna you responded?! Thank you! I love your videos. I follow you on both my photography and regular Instagram pages!
@@TeganHolme thanks Tegan! I do my best to always read and respond to everything!
I prefer the focal length of the Leica and love the full frame aspect, I hate the built in forced noise reduction to raw files. I like a lot of what the x100v has to offer, sadly, they are not available.
Quick question about the adapter ring shown at 2:31, where did you get it? Looks way better than the ones I have. Thanks!
It’s from Amazon but I’m having trouble finding it again. Might be discontinued
I wanted to like the x100v but I couldnt deal with the focus by wire.
What are those sleek looking bars on your monitors?
I'm thankful I got mine in early 2020. I would love to have a "Red Dot" camera, but for now my X100V will do.
Why buy the Q2 in the first place or did you not realise it was more expensive than the other stuff?
The two best ever days for a Leica owner - The day you buy it... And the day you sell it !!
Boats n Leicas 😂
this was such a wonderful video and comparison, great job and appreciate the info Kyle!
but....im still torn between the two haha
Really? I just sold my Canon R3 and want to buy Leica Q2) Took it for a rent - amazing photos. Can't even compare with other cameras))
interesting how everyone says it's a point and shoot camera while it's not point and shoot at all. It's just a fixed lens camera.
Ill just use my X-T2 as I love documentariy street style with the xf16 1.4mm 24mm ff eq. Probably around the same size as the Q2.
Why Not using a Sony A7C with the Tamron 20-40/2.8?
Not quite the same experience tbh
Does X100V has separate AF button on the back?
I sold my Leica m10r for Fujifilm 100v I’m happy with it 😊
What makes the q2 a point&shoot camera? Makes no sense. Fixed lens is not the same as point&shoot.
For the life of me I don't understand why would anyone buy these cameras.
Where in the world (literally) did you get an X100V?
Are not all cameras point and shoot?
The leaf shutter creates unpleasant bokeh really? why? I thought it had advantages over conventional shutters especially for flash photography?
Yeah it can create some angular bokeh at high shutters. It does indeed help when using the flash though. It reduces that flash banding that you get on higher shutter speeds ona traditional mechanical shutter
I don't see the point of either camera. I have a 35mm f/2 lens on a Sony A7RIII. The combo is pretty small and way more flexible
Every photo out of a Sony needs RAW tweaking. Fuji and Leica colors need no editing at all.
Warning: One thing I found out about buying or putting in older batteries, is the camera works much slower and I mean much much slower!
Once I got rid of all my older batteries and just use the one that came with the camera, things went much better!
but then you got the q3?
I had a Leica Q. Sold it for Fuji camera. Now when I look back at my pics the best shots I’ve taken were w Leica. Should have kept it.
Waiting for Q3 😂 Too many negative highlighted in this video for X100V and yet you went for it! Thanks for being honest.
Crazy how the halo effect from Leica is mostly responsible for the popularity of the Fuji X100V.
Lol I agree
