Leica is about two things for me: simplicity and [relatively] unique quality. Mostly I use Leica lenses on a Nikon Z camera. Manual focus slows me down, and this is good. Recently I was looking at some of my photo sessions from 2017, about 300-500 images per hour. Now it's closer to 50-100. Yet the number of 'keepers' has increased because there is more intention. I like the idea of the Q2 because I like my GRIII. However, I wonder if I will notice more the full frame f1.7 benefits or the size and weight benefits of the Ricoh.
I just ordered my Q2 today. I’ve shot both Nikon and Fuji. I had both an x-t3 and x100f. I sold all my Fuji gear. Excited to start shooting with the q2.
Here’s my view, grab your A7RIII/IV/V and the sony 50mm/40 F2.5. Then you have a razor sharp high quality lens, small setup, high resolution, great AF. Then make a pic profile close to Leica’s and you’re there much cheaper
Sony A7Rii + Sony 35/2.8 ZA is the sweet spot for this sort of shooting, IMHO. Zeiss brings a certain image quality too. The A7Rii AF is relatively close to Leica Q2. The massive upside is you can toss a proper manual prime on there for peak range focus experience (Voigtlander 21/.35 rules here, especially since you can super35 it too). Perfect street setup, and fits in a 3L crossbody with room to spare.
I love my Q2. I have the sl2s for everything else, but the Q2 for me is the perfect everyday companion. Tried the X100V for a couple of months and it never seemed to let me get my kind of shot. So many reasons for that: 1 I have it with me more often. 2 let’s call it a Ferrari vs Ford and therefore I want to use it more and have improved with it 3 it has a better lens.
Not a big fan of the Q series. Picked up a few over time to try them and as soon as I take a look in the EVF, it’s for me just as big brands hybrids. No point in picking up a Q if it’s only to use it with autofocus. This is why I prefer the rangefinder of the M series. Much more enjoyable experience. Still use Fuji x100f or v but I take snapshots with them, I concentrate much less when I take a picture with those than when I use my Leica Ms. Almost any camera available on the market now can be a Pro camera. Good to see a Joey H collab:) he definitely convinced me to get my Ghost Q2. Pierre just FYI, even though it’s not quite the same thing you can use touch and drag focus on the Q2. That’s what I’ve used instead of a joystick
So enjoyable listening to your passionate observations on the Q2. Dialogue throws up all sorts of comments which might have been missed otherwise. Wonderful. Thank you for sharing. You describe the rationale behind using a Leica so beautifully. It's all about the 'art of photography', after all. Purity is key !
I’m a longtime Nikon shooter and a more recent Fuji shooter. But then I picked up a Leica Q2 and now fully understand why Leica has such a loyal following. It’s an amazing camera. The IQ from the lens continues to wow me and the handling of the camera makes it a joy to use. The high resolution allows for cropping. I’m totally sold on the brand.
You can move the focus point easily by tapping the screen or if you’re using the EVF you can also move the focus point even if the screen is off while using EVF. There’s no need to ask for a joystick. It can do what you want it’s just sometimes you think it can’t do but actually it can. Use it longer and really own one and you’ll learn more about it.
First and foremost, if you buy this camera because it inspires you to be creative then it's worth the money! That aside, I would never buy it because it does nothing for me personally. I know for a fact you can get the same image out of any modern digital camera in post. With that being said I don't think people truly by this camera because of the image/colors. It is 100% a brand thing and also the idea of having a fixed point and shoot so that removes any and all debate over your gear pack as you have only one option with this camera. It's totally not my cup of coffee but I completely understand the want and desire to shoot with one!
I have it. It is an amazing camera. 1.7 28MM lens and 47 megapixels….Leica glass….I am a Leica M shooter. I have the M10R, M10 Monochrome, M9 and M6….this camera is awesome
I've never used a Leica camera and I'm not planning to any time soon.... Also people/youtuber are weird, they'll complain all day about the fact that some 2000$ can't do X or Y and yet they would happily pay 3 times more for a leica camera that has even more restrictions under the pretext that it forces them to be more creative, or it has really good colors... Seriously, that sounds like a dumb way to waste money if you ask me; but everyone is free to spend his/her money the way he/her wants
Great video Pierre! Can I know which month was this in Iceland and which month do you recommend to visit? might be getting a Q3 along with my next iceland trip
I love the look and feel of the Leica. Though, the Fuji X100V just as much - even at a fraction of the price. I would be scared to carry that expensive a camera around!
Honestly, if I had $6k to spend, I'd definitely go for it. Otherwise, everything he said about Leica being an everyday camera and enabling him to shoot more I'm able to do with my Ricoh GR iii... Yes, it doesn't have the same flexibility with 24 megapixels, but even when I had my Sony a7R IV, I rarely ever cropped my photos which is why I got rid of it for just the a7IV. If you have the money, definitely go for it. Otherwise, use that money to travel. (Except to places where I'm at. I don't want to see any of you there loool)
Hi Pierre, what a great little Camera the Leica Q2 is. I like the feature that gives you Frames you can change, to 35mm, 50mm and 75mm, really nice feature. Love the photo of the church in the snow, looks like the photos in the magazines, great colours. Love the winding road photo and the glass doors photo. Being a fashion accessory do you have to wear clothes and accessories to match the Camera. Great video, thank you, Pierre and Joey.
I made an alternative street photography account on Instagram and stated all my pictures were taken by the Q2 (they were from sony a9) and I got a ton more followers in a week wtf
I shoot Nikon mirrorless for my main camera, and have shot Fuji as a second option since 2012. Until about a month ago. I now have the Q2 and doubt that I could ever go back! The build quality, image quality, and colors are top notch, in my opinion! I also have shot with the Q2 Monochrom. I will likely soon own both 😁
I have seen many videos about Leicas and I am still convinced they are not worth it. I would suggest to get a Fujifilm for a third of the price of a Leica and go out and take pictures instead of buying “fashion statements” and luxury items. I find absurd people buying Gucci bags or other high fashion items (Porsches, Ferraris…) and from what I see people who buy Leicas are not that different.
at the end we all justify our expensive purchases. Realistically, a sony a7ii/iii or Canon R8/R6 are good enough to be an everyday carry camera. But we camera enthusiasts like to own the tech more than the benefits that come with each different camera body. So if you have money then by all means get the Leica, the X100V, the R3, the A1. Because it’s more to own the tech and have it and not need it then to need it and not have it. By the way, not an advice for people who are in debt!
To all non leica owners: Why I use a leica? Bec I m not as clever as you to be able to multi skill. Leica allows me to focus on one thing only aka compose the shot. The rest is being taken care of by Leica. Period.
Not sure about "no brainer" but certainly no hassle. All the controls you need, nothing that gets between you and the photo. My only concern about the Q2 is it's tendency to blow out the highlights, and the low light performance at ISO above 1600. I've seen countless examples and they are super grainy. I want to jump on one of these because the Q2 used is $1K less than the Q3, and the Q3 is unavailable and probably will be for at least a year or two. But $5K for a sort of Ok camera (Leica or not) is a bit much.
The Leica looks like it tries to be a fashion accessoir.... while it has like a weird minimalistic design. For example Apple does a great job in minimalistic design which is actually timeless and good. The Leicas just have this tryhard weird look
that's sick! Love the idea of reporter edition. branding is striped away and overall looks very slick. Also i started doing photography because of you! You gave me a huge inspiration. Ty for your content ❤
I had the Q2 and without doubt its a beautiful camera and takes great images, BUT. At almost 5k in the UK its a lot to justify for a fixed lens. Form factor is brilliant but I needed more value as it would be my only camera. As a walkabout its great but it lacks versatility, so I had to sell it and I bought the Sony a7r IV. The Sony is like using a computer and has no soul but the variety of lenses and its IQ make it much better value. I wish I could justify both.
I had reporter about 1 month. I dont like it. Not good in hands, 28mm is not good, leicas colours start make me feel sick fast🤢.. like too dark, like poor dynamicrange.. Now back Canon🫶💪
So I guess if you’re poor then you’ll never take amazing photos guys because only Leica can take good photos with amazing color science. 😢 sad life for the poor folks like us
I tried the Q2 at a Leica flagship store. I was really not impressed. Focusing is slow and imprecise. I'd be unable to shoot most of the things that I need to shoot with it. In most respects, it felt like using a highly outdated camera from 20 or 30 years ago. While there was nothing that you could do with it that you couldn't do with a far less expensive camera, like an A7C, there was far more that you couldn't do with it that you could do with a higher end body, with more flexibility and control and lower expense. Worse, they are priced as Veblen goods - they are status symbols which have increased demand as price increases. Leicas are pretty, and look nice on a shelf. If you want to get the shot, a Sony, Canon, Nikon, or Fuji is a much better choice.
basically is just paying for the brand name.. if you can afford it and you like the camera body/design and holding a leica make you feel better. then why not. But in term of specs n what the camera can do.. most of the cheaper gear can do better. So it really depends what you want...
Wünsche ich es Euch Gesundheitlich Erwachsen werden können bitteschön Betrachten Wertigkeit für Menschheit an der Arbeit macht süchtig Farben & Erleuchtung bringen können haben bitteschön
He said it right... Leica is a fashion statement. It's a Gucci bag and appeals to the same ego hunger. Buy yourself some alligator shoes and you'll get the same dopamine ego boost for a lot less money.
That would be true if it wasn’t also an excellent camera. Just because some people buy something as a fashion accessory doesn’t mean it’s devoid of merit. A Ferrari may be a fashion item to some people who just want to flex, but that doesn’t stop it also being a fantastic car for people who enjoy driving. Lumping everyone in together is a sign of a challenged intellect.
@@Jabber-ig3iw Going for the personal insult would an actual sign of what you are suggesting. 😂 An excellent camera? Sure. Is it five times the camera compared to others? Would you bet everything you have that you could pick out ten prints from a Leica out of a pool of a hundred photos from the same photographer?
The lens, probably not. Many of them have poor MTF performance, or good character. The shooting experience though is something very different no other systems can provide. I can see myself getting a M body for film in future, but probably not the digital ones. Way overpriced.
When I was looking for another camera, I picked up the Fuji, X100v, Sony’s and Nikon mirrorless, etc. But they all felt cheap. I have the original Q. No joystick but I love touch and shoot. The SL2 S is also amazing. @john_abernathy_

Love the idea of reporter edition. branding is striped away and overall looks very slick. Also i started doing photography because of you! You gave me a huge inspiration. Ty for your content ❤
Thank you
Would this replace your phone's camera?!
this coincidence, all content creators and influenzers got the reporter in the nearly same moment xD
If the Q or Q2 was €300,- no one would discuss it. Don’t believe the hype, it’s just a camera and limited at that.
You’ve never shot Leica.
Lol I’ve been looking at this camera for the last few days
I had the Q2 and without doubt its a beautiful camera and takes great images, BUT. At almost 5k in the UK its a lot to justify for a fixed lens. Form factor is brilliant but I needed more value as it would be my only camera. As a walkabout its great but it lacks versatility, so I had to sell it and I bought the Sony a7r IV. The Sony is like using a computer and has no soul but the variety of lenses and its IQ make it much better value. I wish I could justify both.
Hi Pierre, would you like to come to Iran? you can find many beautiful places to shoot :)
I had reporter about 1 month. I dont like it. Not good in hands, 28mm is not good, leicas colours start make me feel sick fast🤢.. like too dark, like poor dynamicrange.. Now back Canon🫶💪
No RAW in smaller files that’s not smart!
Only JPEG😒
Thousands dollors of camera and puting preset colors kn photo . Lol ..than just buy fuji it has color simulation so you dont have to edit😊
So I guess if you’re poor then you’ll never take amazing photos guys because only Leica can take good photos with amazing color science. 😢 sad life for the poor folks like us
fuji x one hundred vee not five :)
Q2 is blau
Why do they have their cameras on that arm rest, if he had to put his breaks on suddenly they would go flying, stupid.
i dont know about shooting in a holocaust memorial...
Nice!
Leica q3 is great but way over priced and overhyped. And yes I own one.
It's not Fuji x100Five, it is V (maybe, i think)
V is Roman numeral for 5 …
What debate? 😂😂😂
"Oh the Leica colors" ... goes and changes the colors in every photo.
Leben Wir Gesundheitlich oder Schlafend können haben bitteschön....................?
Oh man, Kleidungsstücke brauchen auch Farben..............
I adore my Q2
Why did you kept taking pictures when the man is talking to you, disrespect!
😊😮😮
basically is just paying for the brand name.. if you can afford it and you like the camera body/design and holding a leica make you feel better. then why not.
But in term of specs n what the camera can do.. most of the cheaper gear can do better. So it really depends what you want...
for sure don't get Leica for specs... the AF is frustrating sometimes as a Sony / Canon shooter haha
Live in a van but be brainwashed to buy a Leica and already feeling sophisticated…hahahaha
Love that you're watching and are here. Quick suggestion would be to check why we were in a van in Iceland ❤️
Wünsche ich es Euch Gesundheitlich Erwachsen werden können bitteschön Betrachten Wertigkeit für Menschheit an der Arbeit macht süchtig Farben & Erleuchtung bringen können haben bitteschön
Are they actors?😂
please i need a phone can you give me one❤❤🙏🙏🙏
Is it just me or does it look like a toy camera
Second :)
He said it right... Leica is a fashion statement. It's a Gucci bag and appeals to the same ego hunger. Buy yourself some alligator shoes and you'll get the same dopamine ego boost for a lot less money.
You ever try to shoot a rangefinder?
@@andrewgardelle516 Regularly, yes. All film, however. I still haven't found a digital rangefinder that I'm happy with.
An excellent camera? Sure. Is it five times the camera compared to others? Would you bet everything you have that you could pick out ten prints from a Leica out of a pool of a hundred photos from the same photographer?
The camera is not worth that much money. Deception is for fools
The lens, probably not. Many of them have poor MTF performance, or good character. The shooting experience though is something very different no other systems can provide. I can see myself getting a M body for film in future, but probably not the digital ones. Way overpriced.
Snobs like Leica...period...
When I was looking for another camera, I picked up the Fuji, X100v, Sony’s and Nikon mirrorless, etc. But they all felt cheap. I have the original Q. No joystick but I love touch and shoot. The SL2 S is also amazing. @john_abernathy_
