I searched for this last week haha…. Thankfully ended up figuring it out on my own on my Mac… but boy would this have made it easier. Going to go back and compare though to see if I missed anything.
Great job on the video. I watched TONS of videos when I had my 7100 in my shack and was setting up FT8 with it. Now that it is in my truck, need to go tweak those settings. You had several settings suggestions I had not seen in any other videos. Hopefully you will get lots of views because of that. Robert KD4YDC
This is timely, because I just picked up a used IC-7100 and it's now probably going to be my main POTA rig since it's so convenient to just have in the car. Remember that question you just posted about "do you sell or do you keep?" Old as it is, the 7100 might have me selling a few I thought I'd never let go of. Depends on how much I miss the waterfall of the 710 and the G90.
@@temporarilyoffline Waterfall on cheap SDR was what got me into the hobby finally (well, there was more, but it was one of the gateway drugs). But I'm on a long road-trip East with POTA stops both along the way and while I'm visiting in NJ, and I've committed to using the 7100 for everything, and so far, that's working really well! (I have the G90 along as a backup, but unless something actually breaks, I don't anticipate using it!)
I believe the IC-7100 is one of the easiest radios to use, which includes HF +6m, 2m, and 70cm bands. Includes D-Star which may or may not interest you. The touch screen is fantastic! I did break the radio, which I need to fix. The only thing it doesn’t have is the color waterfall.
That was great . Lately 10 and 12 meters FT8 is wide open worldwide. Some radios do not have ALC so I just use watt meter . Once I get that set then I dial radio power to tevel I like. . That power level in WSJT-X is audio level . I had trouble at first but now i got many different radios to do FT8/FT4 ETC. I normally use IC 7300 or my QT 60 with Digi Rig for sound card . cat control is manual on that .I have found that a GPS dongle works great except with heavy clods or wooded area when POTA . Then I can't get a lock. WWV is a good fix. My laptop keeps good time so before I go out or I stop on the way to POTA spot I sync my time and good for a day or 2 . many places have free WiFi so I just stop in Sync my laptop for time. Now I never have time Sync trouble anymore . I did camping before . But that was me forgetting to sync my laptop when I had internet or GPS . Now I have a program to do it when ever I am online or GPS lock. just 1 more program running in background and if I forget to sync time the program does it for me. So I can't be late for dinner ! 73
I believe that you are mistaken about FT8 being phase shift keyed. The 8 stands for a group of 8 closely spaced frequencies, one of which is transmitted at a time, making if frequency shift keying, with multiple frequencies, or MFSK. JT-65 had 65 frequencies, then, though intended for moon bounce, since people were starting to use it on HF, JT-9, with 9 frequencies was created as a better match for conditions on HF, then, after F got involved, things were optimized to the FT-8 we know today.
The suspense was killing me. Definitely worth the wait.
Glad you liked it!
Excellent, I might be finally able to make this thing work!
You've got this!

Sweet. Let me know!

Thanks Robert!
Great video, I have played around with wsjtx listening with sdr it's neat to see how the transmit side works.👍
It's a real eye-opener to watch the transmit side in action.
I still miss my 7100, it is a great radio.
If you were coming to Quartzsite, I'd sell you mine... I can ship!
Woohoo! The 7100 lives! I use my 7100 for digital modes.
You're gonna love it!

The 7100 is tough to get rid of! When I was new I really "needed" a waterfall, now I'm old and don't really mind not having it.

That's interesting, Cool video, Merry Christmas, Tnx Man!
Merry Christmas Victor!
Definitely looking forward to playing with FT8 , just paid my license fee and should have a call sign today .
Sweet, Congrats!

I think this 7100 radio is the best 👍
I agree!

I use 4 different radios for FT8. Silly me, I didn’t know about naming configurations in Settings. THANK YOU!
Always a little nugget somewhere!
