  • Award-winning director Joe Wright envelops movie lovers in a symphony of emotions with music, romance, and beauty in Cyrano, re-imagining the timeless tale of a heartbreaking love triangle. Cyrano de Bergerac (Peter Dinklage) dazzles with both ferocious wordplay and brilliant swordplay, but is convinced that his appearance makes him unworthy of the love of his devoted friend, Roxanne (Haley Bennett), who has fallen in love at first sight with Christian (Kelvin Harrison Jr.).

    "it's just the wound playing up" is possibly one of the best and deeply layered piece of dialogue I have ever witnessed

    Man, this hits so hard. To see him drowning in hope before being struck by the instant sobriety of rejection. This scene is painful in any adaptation but Dinklage sells it in such an endearing way.

    The heartbreak in Cyrano's face when he realises that Roxanne isn't talking about him, just destroys me. What an amazing performance by Peter Dinklage.

      Reminds me a little of my husband and I before we started dating. I saw him as my best friend and confident. Didn't know he fell in love with me. I was going on and one about someone I had met, it was long distance. He was great at giving advice. I remember once he rescued me from a guy in the park lot. This man, who was in his late 40's early 50s, was waiting for me by my car and wanted to talk to me after Church. I was the coordinator for the young adult choir. It's always one of the last to leave. I didn't know I was being watched by this man. He told me he was recently divorced and his kids (early 20s like me) told him to ask me out. I tried to let this man down gently, but he would not take no as an answer. Then my best friend drives up in his white pickup truck and says: "Hey, aren't you coming, we're all waiting for you. The choir even called and asked what's taking so long." I smiled at the man and said. Oh, the surprise, I forgot I have somewhere I have to be. Since he was standing in front of my car. I just hopped into my friends truck, and we went to a nearby coffee shop. Victor then said, "I'm sorry if I interrupted something important, but a look on your face said you were. I didn't want to leave you alone. I'm not saying that you needed rescuing or anything." I then called him my knight and shining amour. Then, after Church, he would wait for me and walk me to my car. The sad and funny thing is that no one ever thought we were anything more than friends.
      He then told me he fell in love with a friend and told me why he fell in love with her. I was very happy for him and thought it was another friend. When he told me it was me. I laughed and asked if he was joking. He had a look of heartbreak on his face. He looked away, and I knew his eyes filled with tears. I then told him that I was so scared of dating him, and things would go wrong, I would lose my best friend. I couldn't bear to lose him. Well, long story short. We dated 5 years and have been married for 6 years. We have two kids together. Are very happy. I am so lucky to have him. Who cares if I am a couple of inches taller than him.

    The most spectacular love story playing out by incredible actors. I totally fell in love with the film and watched it twice on the same day at the cinema,then went again the following day.I now own it and dvd and still cry like a baby every time I watch it. Amazing acting, especially Peter. I adore this film and never thought a film could be so moving. Thank you

    The short clipped answers from Cyrano are great. Dinklage well conveys how hard Cyrano is fighting to keep his disappointment under wraps--not very well, but fortunately Roxanne is too distracted to really notice.

      A lot in how you interpret actions depends on how you categorize the person involved. If the person is categorized as "friend", then you view their reactions as independent from you and related to some other situation. I'm more wondering how she missed the way he reacted to her news.

      @@Afalstein Yeah…the way his expression just went from delighted to devastated, and she didn’t notice a thing.

    • @BadBloodwillout
      @BadBloodwillout 2 ปีที่แล้ว +8

      She did notice, that's why he said his expression is because of the cut in his hand. I think deep down she probably knows but doesn't want to face it. And she's not sure if it's actually true, he doesn't tell her anything either so who's to say in her pov? There are a couple of clues like that (that she suspects or that she has a bit of a crush on him too). The director said in an interview that he wanted it to be up to interpretation.

    • @BadBloodwillout
      @BadBloodwillout 2 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      From the director's interview to vulture: " I tried to make it open to interpretation, but to my mind, there is a part of Roxanne that knows that it’s Cyrano speaking to her beneath her balcony, and is in fact in love with Cyrano."

    • @Afalstein
      @Afalstein 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@BadBloodwillout Still, for her to BUY that story...
      The director's explanation makes sense. The dialogue itself actually reads like she's oblivious and gently kidding around with him for showing pain from the wound. "Poor you." Dinklage's pain is too obvious for that take to be reasonable, so the actress showing genuine concern is the right take, otherwise she'd come off as heartless, but it seems the writers had a different tone in mind for this scene.

    They have a little too much chemistry. There is a little too much sizzle. Cuz I’m blushing, giggling, and kicking my feet, and they are not supposed to be vibing like that. None of there interactions gave friendship, they were sooo flirty with each other. Every interaction they had it made it feel like it was about to go down. Whereas with Christian they didn’t have that type of chemistry. And like no one seemed to notice the vibes.
