I saw this film last night. I went alone because I’m a lonely person and don’t have anyone to enjoy films with. The only other person in the audience was a young man sitting alone a few rows behind me. For a brief moment I thought it was sort of romantic that two lonely people took themselves to a movie about love and loss and weren’t completely alone while privately sharing in a sadness that was created by this beautiful film. Once the credits rolled he couldn’t have left faster. He practically sprinted to the door. I hope he enjoyed the show as much as I did. The music was immaculate. The acting superb. I cried for the greater part of the film. So happy I was able to experience it in theaters. Thank you to everyone involved.
This movie broke my heart! Why is it not nominated for best Picture? , Best actor and every other award. It is stunning and pulls you into a time of true romance. I seen the others film, which are nothing compared to Cyrano!
Well, I saw it and it was amazing. Peter Dinklage said everything through his facial expressions. He is a great actor and the other actors were wonderful as well. I went alone as well and happy that I did.
Peter is the most amazing actor. I've never seen him as different, he acts from his soul. His eyes tell his innermost thoughts and he's great at expressing himself without words.
Probably the best movie I’ve watched in the last... I'd say 10 years. I went alone, because I had this feeling of the upcoming emotional damage, and I wasn't wrong. It was amazing, I had goosebumps during three songs, and it left me amazed at how theatrical and beautiful it was. Camera work was a masterpiece, especially during song every letter, although I need more is my absolute fav. The actors were awesome, and they played their roles magnificently. I left the cinema in tears with people slightly laughing at me, but it was definitely worth it.
This was a wonderful, heartbreaking, yet beautiful movie! ❤️ Also, I Love the music and the way you choose to tell this story in a musical! I appreciate how you choose to be authentic with the singing throughout this musical! 😊❤️
I love this film so much, Peter Dinklage, Haley Bennet and Kelvin Harrison JR did a brilliant job on this masterpiece. I saw Cyrano 5 times at the cinema. I love all the songs and can’t stop listening to the songs and I can’t wait to buy the dvd so I can constantly watch the film.
Reading your comment and noticing you watched it 5 times made me feel better because I have watched it 3 times in the last month and just ordered it from Amazon! the message in this film speaks volumes and I'm only surprised it didn't receive more or ALL Academy Awards!!! Simply love this movie!
An absolutely beautiful film. So far, I've seen it six times and that's not nearly enough. Peter Dinklage was brilliant!! If he doesn't receive an Oscar, something is horribly wrong. I fell hopelessly in love with him. I thought I was before. Now I'm sure of it.
Loved everything about this movie - beyond beautiful ❤️ enjoyed being immersed into the playful, touching and relatable emotions of these characters. The music is fantastic. Peter's baritone is the icing on the cake for me.
Now assuming you did see it, what are your thoughts? For me, it was absolutely one of or perhaps the one movie that left me emotionally spent! What a beautiful production. Dinklage and Haley Bennett were superb!
My first experience with Cyrano was as a child in the 80's. A movie called Roxanne with Steve Martin as C.D. and Daryl Hannah as Roxanne. I was just a kid so I didn't realize the stories history. I liked it very much though. I have seen a few adaptions over the years and now it is a favorite romantic tale of mine. Peter Dinklage is such a good actor. He was my favorite character in Game of Thrones. I love this movie. Highly recommend. ❤
I just watched it. The movie was beautiful, personally I wasn’t an enormous fan of making it a musical but I cried and cried all the same. Dinklage is perfection, and (until he starts singing) when you watch him you forget you’re seeing a period piece, or acting at all (it’s not that he can’t sing his singing is beautiful, but the mastery of modernizing period poetry was lost in the tone of the music). Roxanne is stunningly cast, I believe so easily her warm affection and her gentle perfection in Cyrano’s eyes. Christian is okay, but after watching this feature and finding he’s supposed to be dorky and no game, I think he should have been recast. He wasn’t convincing as an awkward, inarticulate lovesick ball of nerves. By the end of the film I found myself rooting against him (which I assume isn’t the point) because his inability to convey his depth or feeling for Roxanne, and especially his eagerness to carnality with her and his treatment of Cyrano (right up till he finds the tear on the letters) made it feel as if Roxanne loved for body mind and soul, but Christian appeared more infatuated. That balcony scene really said it all. It really felt like he was just letting Cyrano do all the earnest earning of Roxanne’s heart, and once he succeeded he swooped in to claim the physical fruits of his labors
I am devastated! This looks like the most glorious adaptation of my favorite play and it’s only going to be in theaters in February? I’m recovering from surgery and don’t think I’ll be on my feet again until March! I NEED A WHEELCHAIR!!!
It's available now on DVD! I watched it on Netflix 3 times and just ordered it on Amazon at quite a discount. I always want to be able to have access to this gorgeously produced film!!
I actually had a best friend who was so sweet and I never noticed and he tried to take care of me and I was so silly to not pay attention.. he was so funny. This movie reminds me of him. He loved me for years and was ashamed cuz he was a bigger dude. That's it. Everyone thought we were meant to be, and I couldn't get a boyfriend for a while cuz they respected him and thought we should be together..I wish him the best. Truly a good heart.
I really liked this movie, the music itself isn't my favorite of any musical, but the choreography definitely was. They put those puffy sleeves to work! The bakery scene was gorgeous.
This 28:21 minutes is worth the time. I love hearing collaborative artists discuss their work. Clearly, the collective that Joe Wright and Erica Schmidt brough together were of a mind. After I watch a film I go in search of just this sort of discussion. I'm not usually so much a fan of the hyper-theatricality of Broadway type works (This was a stage play, originally). Wright's production so cohesively, from every element of music, choreography, acting, lighting et al, adds the nuance, heart and exquisite tenderness so often missing in stage musicals. I can fully imagine that someone who saw Dinklage in the play would not have been disappointed in the film. Bravo to everyone involved in a clear labor of love.
trovo che e veramente fatto bene anche le espressioni degli attori coinvolgono ed esprimo i sentimenti come se fossero reali .Un film veramente strappa lacrime anche se lo si vede 10 volte
I was fortunate enough to have a front-row seat for "Cyrano" at Goodspeed, starring Peter Dinklage and Haley Bennett. If the movie is half as good as the play, it will be great. Peter, if you read this, sorry I missed your phone call. That'll teach me for not picking up a Name-and-Number-Blocked call. Regards, Bob
An exquisite movie set against a gorgeous soundtrack composed by The National. My only complaint about this piece, is that it would not have lessened my appreciation for the movie if they fessed up that Peter and Ericka, and Haley and Joe are both couples.

I adore Peter Dinklage but seriously there is NOTHING about musicals that attracts me, and the concept of singing while creating a story is strange. I could see using well known songs, like they did with Marie Antionette but original music, is also very off putting as nobody knows if the song is a winner and having to live thru repeated songs that are not making you render emotions via their familiarity, just seems very chancy. If this story gets support it is only thru the fact that Peter is in it. I know they do this with live performances and plays and that’s where this type of composition belongs. My humble opinion.
You’re wrong. I didn’t know any of the principal actors aside from Monica Dolan who I’d seen in an episode of Call The Midwife years ago, and who I didn’t know was in this film until I watched it anyway. In my humble opinion the music and lyrics here are truly beautiful and feel in no way out of place or ‘strange’. Just my opinion also 😊
Peter Dinklage was great in this. But the movie fails because it's meant to be a musical, and it has some of the worst, most boring songs I've ever heard. They can gush all they want about how beautiful it is, but it's by far the weakest part of this movie. We could overlook the fact that none of them (especially Peter) are professional singers if only the songs had been exciting, and the choreography original. But we're massively let down on this. Also, the story has been gutted by leaving out so many of the most moving (and amusing) speeches that were in the original. Still, the visuals are lovely, and again, Peter is heartbreaking to watch. Worth it for his performance alone.
An intellectual degradation of what those who fought through disability to achieve equal consideration to excellence have achieved. The most basic need to be accepted and loved as a person and not have a deformity even noticed. A despicable production.
I saw the first movie and this is not even close to it .Why for God's sake are these jokers doing this. If they used a different name for this movie it might work. Enough said.

I think there's something of Cyrano in all of us. That we have some perceived shortcoming that we wrap in pride and fear being discovered.
