I just thought of several ways to make the smelter even worse, but also solves the issue of running out of fuel in the most annoying way possible. 1. Use bamboo instead of saplings. Bamboo is the least efficient fuel in Minecraft, as a single piece of bamboo only lights the furnace for 2.5 seconds, which means you need at least four bamboos just to smelt one item. 2. Have a bamboo farm (preferably automatic but definitely not the most efficient) nearby to refill the droppers used to provide fuel to the furnaces. (Optionally, also have a mechanism to automatically add the bamboo to each dropper, or have said mechanism need to be triggered either manually or via something with RNG like a bat or a chicken.) 3. Replace the buttons with wood buttons for a longer delay between presses. 4. Have the smelted items be added to the furnaces by your idea with the chicken. Basically, have the hopper-minecart instead fill droppers with the thing to be smelted, then have a chicken press pressure plates to drop items one at a time into an effectively random furnace. 5. Have the super-smelter hooked up to an item sorter that does the opposite of what it should, so that the smelted items get distributed to random chests/barrel, with no correlation as to what the item is or which furnace it came from. Bonus if the chests/barrels are labeled as though their contents _are_ sorted. 6. Make it so that the button isn’t guaranteed to work 100% of the time. Even if it works 90+% of the time, the fact that it might sometimes fail makes it annoying. Taken together, this means the following: 1. Running out of fuel entirely will not be a complete issue, which might seem like it’s less annoying, but it’s kinda necessary with the poor fuel being used. Besides, the farm itself and the mechanism that moves fuel from the farm to the smelter’s droppers can be made inefficient and/or annoying as well, and using a hopper-minecart to randomly distribute fuel among the droppers could mean that not enough (or none) of it gets to the dropper(s) that actually need it in a given pass. 2. The buttons will have to be pressed more frequently thanks to the poor fuel economy (fuel will run out more quickly, and if you take too long to add a multiple of four (or five) pieces of fuel to a furnace, the item being smelted will reset its smelting timer and, thus, waste a significant amount of fuel), but… 3. …the user won’t be _able_ to press any given button as frequently thanks to the longer delay from wooden buttons. 4. Increased randomness as to which furnaces have items to smelt at any given time and when items get added along with a chance for your button press to not work, meaning more button presses will be required. 5. Because of several of the above, increased monitoring and attention will be required. You’ll have to check the fuel levels and items-to-be-smelted of each furnace, the amount of fuel in each dropper, whether the button actually worked after each press, and possibly even whether there is enough fuel from the farm to refill the droppers and if the dropper(s) you needed refilled actually got enough fuel to refill its/their furnace(s) enough to actually work. 6. A bit of a neat-freak trigger from the randomly-distributed products.
Well.. everyone hates diorite don't they! I used to use it to hide my base. I know that nobody is going to try and mine diorite at y=56 or something. So, just two layers of diorite and less lighting in the cave did the trick. Nobody found out my base until I put a door and some lighting on it. This is a very easy hiding mechanism in early-game. Turns out, Diorite does have some uses. I disagree to Iska.. I mean SOMEONE that diorite is useless.
