Though she could not win, I think it's an excellent comeback at the age of 29. She also reached the finals of the French Open after beating Yamaguchi in SF. As far as the mind games she plays, everybody does that. I am not saying it is right but we will need to judge everyone as well then.

It's always a mystery (no offense, though, I'm an ASY fan) when I see ASY wins a match, I couldn't understand how she wins. Just like in this match, it looks like Marin always has the advantage: dictating the pace, attacking more, better tactics, etc. But ASY comes out as the winner out of nowhere. 🙂
ASY has two main weapons. One is excellent footwork that gives her fantastic court coverage. The other is her incredible net skill. In this match, ASY court coverage helps her defend against Marin's barrage of attacks until the latter eventually made mistakes. ASY is also better than Marin at net play and that gave her plenty of chances to counter attack.
You cannot lose if you can always return the shuttle back to the other side, it's that simple.
Marin has big advantage in her shriek, otherwise ASY has great footwork, net shots & a killer crosscourt drop shots, im hoping you will acknowledge & know that
Very simple. First, An has great touch, in terms of defensive play and placement of shots, often landed in the area she want the shuttlecock to go; second, speed and stemina; third, solid footwork. In game situation, her solid defense, combined with well timed dropshot/punch clear, made her a gate keeper for elite players.
She is steady. So, she doesn't have to frantically try to win. Opportunities arise and she takes them.
She also has great footwork and shot quality.
I was impressed with Carolina Marin's physical appearance in this match: she looks fit, lean, and ready to compete again -- I know she is somewhat unpopular due to her on-court behavior, but as an athlete she deserves a lot of credit for coming back so well from two serious knee injuries
Not just that. I actually like Marin's play style. It's fast and furious, very nice to watch. It's unfortunate that she is lacking in sportmanship and her shrieking doesn't help. She would have been far more respected otherwise. But then a silent and polite Marin wouldn't be Marin. 😂
She dictates the pace a lot! That's why she's enjoyable to watch

I agree with this! Marin's numerous attempts at delaying the game was so frustrating to watch. Moreover, her not returning the shuttle to An Se Young after losing a point had me absolutely stumped. Kind of sad to see such an amazing player behave this way on court :(

ASY was fortunate to win this match -- she still (!) does not attack enough, and when you don't attack, you have to rely on your opponent making a mistake, and top players don't make enough mistakes -- so she is on the defensive most of the time, until she hits a weak defensive shot and loses the point -- also she needs to become a tougher competitor and have better on-court body language -- I'm not sure a female coach is the best to help her with these issues
Actually she attacked a lot more in this game esp in the first set... how often do you see her hit that off-balance smash to win the final point? Most of the defensive players like Yamaguchi also start attacking or playing flat / drop shots against Marin because she will hammer you if you lift
