Now I know why Pearson has the reputation it does. Am pretty darn sure I could be happy sailing that ketch into an endless summer. Thank you Gentlemen,
My wife and I started sailing together in 1976 on an Oday Mariner in Manhasset Bay, LI. A couple of years later we felt competent enough to bareboat charter with another couple in the BVI. That first boat was a Pearson 424 (sloop version) and it set a family tradition of sailing and chartering that continues to today. Your video brought back some pleasant memories. The 424 was in many ways a perfect cruising boat and your video showed why. Nicely done!
LOL James, we're hooked! I have too many boats, but if ever I was a yacht broker, these are the sort of boats I would recommend to the serious sailors looking for serious value. It is a delight, especially in lock-down (in Trinidad), for a pining harbour rat to vicariously enjoy !
Smiling all the way till...Look at me...then I lost it....I really enjoy Capt Q & Randy...the boats are cool too...I also think Captain Q has Spring Fever...lol..
Lately, I've been eagerly awaiting the appearance of cans of Dinty Moore and champagne staged in the cabin galley. It's a pretty funny running gag that makes me laugh everytime.
I notice lately that they usually do not say the product name "Dinty Moore", and I'm wondering if TH-cam leaned on them for (in their view) appearing to "advertise" the product. I also watch like a hawk for the inevitable can of DM, now usually sitting quietly inside a cabinet or drawer. I actually bough a can of DM last week.
@@cjbubeck I wondered why the Capt never says mentions it any more too, but its usually tucked away somewhere for the camera to spot. I wish the Capt would open a can one day because I live in Australia and have never seen the stuff before and I'm curious to see whats actually in the can. It could be dog food for all I know!
We provisioned for a couple of days delivering my new-to-me boat from Cape Cod to Maine a few weeks ago...I just had to pick up Dinty Moore. It made a ridiculously good meal under way...a whole bunch of shredded extra sharp cheddar mixed in, bread with Kerrygold salted butter. Yum.
Great teaching. I love how they ask each other questions, knowing they both already know the answers. They do that for the benefit of the viewers and it’s awesome.
Great video as always, very informative. The Pearson 424 and 365 are sisterships. They also made a center cockpit version of the 424 which is a little ungainly in the looks department. Bill Shaw also designed a Pearson 367 which was the same design with a cutter rig and deeper keel. The 424 and 365 are windward challenged...the 367 solved this due to the bite of the deeper keel. I've sailed on the 365 and 424, comfortable and seaworthy. The mini tub is to wash your clothes! Pearson really improved the joiner work by 1980! I would love to try the cutter version of the 365.
Gi-norm-ous & awesome (i.e., impressive, magnificent, astonishing, beautiful, stunning, wonderful, extraordinary, imposing, monumental, profound, remarkable, splendid, superb, exciting, dramatic) boat! (And two cans of Dinty to see you through the day) Definitely gets Seadog's seal of approval!
Fun review, thanks for this one. This Pearson is in great shape -- giving me ideas for how to clean up my 424! Been out cruising too much to make it shine like this one!
Guys GREAT episode. You crack me up!!! The boat is brilliant! it looks HUGE for a 42'. Really loved it. Thank you guys very much and keep up the good work.

I went to Georgetown Me. to look at one of the boats you featured, instead found my latest love affair, a CD 33. Keep up the good work, wishing you fair winds and following seas, Captain.
Am I the first poster?? Can't wait to watch.... (edit) Loved the boat, by todays standards she had graceful lines, looking from above. Thank you Captain Q and Ran-Day, great find, hope she finds a loving owner. Oh, I remember Ran-Day missing on one of the boats in the first season, the one with the owner's cockpit as I recall, has the intrepid Ran-Day found a worthy boat?
Great review of a good boat that has been well taken care of. As for the dual windlass, two is one and one is none. No comment on 3 speedometers though. :D

Pre-splash repair bills could be significant. Insight into what could be wrong or could go wrong would be fantastic.
Pearson's early 1980s boats really notched up the interior quality, and they are solid, wholesome boats for the money. Compare this to a Morgan OI 41 ketch, and this beats the Morgan in every category: looks, performance, construction and finish quality - everything but price. But you get what you pay for.
Totally cool! Love my 424! Woke my husband up to see this review. Fun fact, we have a fire box right where you suggested. Also the soak tub in the shower is for laundry. The pot cabinet has a hidden cabinet below it. The boat was offered with a second head situated right where you sat in the V Berth. We use the V Berth as our master. Both my brothers chain the captains quarters as their berth. One draw back? I would love it if the Nav table was forward facing.

Hmm, a nicer feature/addition to the aft manual bilge pump and helm station would be a locker for some tins of Dinty Moore for those on the Dog Watch passages ;)
Lovely boat. It's the right size for a couple or a small family of 4. That said, figures the captain would be driving a jaguar. :D PC to go along with the PB.
Great job but.... nothing on the motor or engine compartment? I would think that the engine compartment would be large since it sits under such a large cockpit. Easy access to pull out the engine for a complete overhaul if/when needed? We saw two batteries, anymore? How's the wiring and charging system look? Nothing said regarding electronics? Lots of talk always about a wood burner but nothing about a water maker. I know there is something to be said about the length of a video, but judging from all the comments and IMO your videos can not go to long, yes. But I must say without the masts and rigging set it's hard for me to fall in love with this girl, Captain. And without seeing her and feeling her under sail definitely not love at first sight. 🤷🏻♂️😅 Again another great job. Fair winds! 🤙🏻
we are limited and of course the motor and its access was mistakenly left on the floor ...it was great on both accounts ..I think the layout design was the most compelling aspect of this design and electronics are nothing we can comment on beyond the listing info itself. Excellent as usual!! What a beauty. PS I’d love to see you guys do a video on a Columbia 34 MKII.. only because I’ve heard so many reviews on both extremes.. seems like a love it or hate it boat.
I am beginning to think that there is a correlation to the number of times the Dinty Moore cans show up and how much Capt. Q likes the boat we are being shown. This time I saw 2 cans! (and only one bottle of champagne) Does that translate as -very nice boat but room for improvement? That davit system is a drawback at that price point, IMO. Everything else is pretty spot on. I like a ketch. The layout is interesting- especially the two companionways Although you would want to ensure the centre one was closed when under way! Looks like all the room I would need or want.
I didn't like where the mirror was hung in the cabin, saloon, galley yet there was plenty of space and the setup was comfortable. On this Pearson 424 you showed the ice box, what are the do's and don'ts of frozen foods in the ice box or is this ice box more of a refrigerator to keep meats and dairy from spoiling.
A question for you Captain Q? Were you certain that when you filled that 400 gallon tank on that 41 foot boat you owned that it wasn't filling your bilge and overflowing your fuel tank? 400 gallons is ALOT. I have a Perkins 4108 they call it 55 h.p and only have a 35 gallon diesel tank. Most of my friends only use 6 gallons a weekend in the 40 ft' ers my friends say I'm overpowered?
