  • So yesterday I turned 30 and in the last 30 years, there’s a lot of lessons I wished I had learned when I was younger. Some of them I gained from making mistakes first hand, some from mentors and others from books, podcasts and even TH-cam videos.
So in this video I’m going to be sharing the 30 most important life lessons I’ve learned so far. I’ll be putting them into 3 categories: wealth, self and health.

    Wealth
    1) Starting with most important life lesson:
Compound interest is the eighth wonder of the world. He who understands it, earns it; he who doesn't, pays it. - Einstein
Everyone is aware of compound interest but most people don’t fully understand it until they experience first hand with their own money.
Life lesson 2. Learn about budgeting, superannuation, tax and investing as early as you can.
I wished I knew about these things when I was younger because understanding these 4 topics will set you up for wealth creation. And thanks to compound interest, the earlier you start the better.
    3. Wealth is assets that earn while you sleep - Naval Ravikant.
    4. Time in the market beats timing the market
    5. Remove emotions from investing
Whether it’s panic selling or obsessively checking your trading account - emotions and investing do not mix.
    6. Understand the risk return tradeoff
The higher the risk, the higher the potential reward.
    7. Understand the sunk cost fallacy
Sunk costs are outlays of money, time or effort that have already been made aka they’re sunk. The sunk cost fallacy refers to the tendency for people to irrationally follow through on an activity because of the sunk cost.
In terms of wealth, the more you invest in something the harder it becomes to abandon it.
    8. Get rich quick schemes only make the schemers rich
In our on demand, instant gratification world, it can be really tempting to try to get rich quick.
Whether it’s a secret investment course that you can buy for $2,999 or a multi level marketing opportunity with guaranteed results, or a special cryptocurrency that’s going to the moon - the only person that’s going to get rich is the people selling you these schemes.
    9. Avoid lifestyle inflation
Lifestyle inflation refers to an increase in spending when someone’s income goes up. Lifestyle inflation is often what causes people to get stuck in a vicious cycle of living paycheck to paycheck.
    10. Stop buying things you don’t need to impress people you don’t like - Gary Vaynerchuk. So before I discovered minimalism, I bought expensive hipster brands cause I wanted to be cool. So I bought $100 CDG t shirts, $500 Maison Kitsune jumpers and countless sneakers. In hindsight, I would have been much better off investing all that money I spent.
    Self
    11. Life is short but it’s also the longest thing you’ll ever do
    12. You are the average of the 5 people you spend the most time with
    13. Never attribute to malice that which is adequately explained by stupidity
    14. Holding onto anger is like drinking poison and expecting the other person to die.
    15. Be kind, for everyone you meet is fighting a hard battle
    16. Motivation is fleeting, discipline is forever.
    17. “Success is the sum of small efforts - repeated day in and day out.” - Robert Collier
    18. “Luck is what happens when preparation meets opportunity.” Seneca
    19. “The mass of men lead lives of quiet desperation” - Henry David Thoreau
    20. Comparison is the thief of joy
    21. Create more, consume less
    22. “You have power over your mind - not outside events. Realize this, and you will find strength.” - Marcus Aurelius
    23. Strong opinions, loosely held
    24. Meditate
    25. Breathe (through your nose)
    26. Let food be thy medicine and medicine be thy food - Hippocrates
    27. Start small with exercise
    28. Sleep is important
    29. Go for a walk
    30. And last but not least, Prevention is better than a cure.
So eat well, sleep well, exercise, socialise and meditate.
