  • If you’re watched my videos about investing, you’ll know that I’m a strong believer in investing in ETFs instead of picking individual shares. But I also know that a lot of people want to invest in individual stocks.
So in this video, I’m going to share with you 6 US shares to buy and hold forever.

Disclaimer: I am not a financial adviser, I am not an accountant, I am not a tax adviser. This video and my channel is for general information only, as with anything in life you should do your due diligence and seek independent advice.
My first pick is Microsoft ticker symbol MSFT - for full disclosure I worked at Microsoft so I definitely have a soft spot for this tech giant.
Microsoft is a global technology company founded back in 1975 by Bill Gates and Paul Allen. The company started with MS-DOS, a computer operating software but now creates a variety of tech products and services.
I know the video title says forever but from a practical standpoint, let’s take a look at Microsoft share price over the last 10 years - it’s increased from $25.10 to $250.79 representing a 9.99x return not including dividends. That means if you had invested say $1000 back in 2011, your Micorosft shares would be worth $9,990.
As always, remember that past performance is no guarantee of future results.
My next US share to buy and hold forever is Amazon, ticker symbol AMZN
Amazon was created by Jeff Bezos in his garage back in 1994 and started life as an online book store. It’s now transformed into a retail juggernaut selling pretty much everything you can think off and it also has
Amazon Web Services, it’s cloud computing division
    Kindle ebooks
    Streaming service prime video
    Live stream platform Twitch
    Whole Foods
Smart assistant Alexa and the related Echo devices
If we take a look at Amazon’s share price over the last 10 years - we will see that it’s increased from $187 to $3,206 which equals to a massive 17x return not including dividends.
My number 3 US share to buy and hold forever is Alphabet ticker symbol GOOGL. If you didn’t know Alphabet Inc is the parent company of Google and within Google you have TH-cam, Android, Google Maps, Gmail and Google Cloud.
Other subsidiaries in Alphabet include DeepMind, Fitbit, Waymo and Google Ventures.
In terms of the share price, in the last 10 years Alphabet has grown from $263 US per share to $2,393 representing a 9x return not including dividends.
Number 4 US stock to buy and hold forever is Apple - ticker symbol APPL. For full disclosure, I used to work at Apple’s Sydney office.
Apple is arguably the famous technology company and as of filming this video, it’s the largest company by market cap in the world. It was also the first American company to hit $2 trillion dollars in market value, doing so in August 2020.
Over the last 10 years Apple share price has grown from $12.05 to $125.89 which amounts to a 10.4x return not including dividends.
Number 5 is Costco, ticker symbol COST
As of 2020, Costco is the 5th largest retailer in the world and operates across the world including in Australia, UK, Canada, Japan, South Korea and Taiwan. Costco sells pretty much anything and everything you need, whether it’s groceries, alcohol, technology, furniture and even jewelry. That’s right you can pick up a $54 thousand diamond ring from Costco.
Over the last 10 years Costco’s share price has grown from $81.35 to $387.52 which represents a 4.7x return not including dividends.
And my last US share to buy and hold forever is McDonald’s ticker symbol MCD.
Everyone knows what McDonald’s is and you’ve almost definitely eaten at the fast food chain at some point in your life.
Looking at the last 10 years, McDonald’s share price has grown from $85.36 to $233.38 which represents a 270% return not including dividends.
So why have I picked Mickey D’s over the other listed fast food restaurants, well one big reason is because Ronald McDonald isn’t just selling hamburgers, he’s also a massive landlord.
That’s right McDonalds isn’t just a fast food company, it’s also a real estate titan. So how it works is McDonald’s owns lots of prime commercial real estate, the company rents out the properties to franchisees. So McDonalds not only collects royalties from its franchisees, it also collects rent from them.
Not to mention, the real estate that McDonalds owns will appreciate in value over time.
