Thanks! Very helpful. I soaked a paper towel and wrapped it around my organic store bought ginger and turmeric and put them in a ziplock bag with tiny holes and put them in a dark place for a week and it sprouted. Then I planted them. The sprouting tip I got from another gardener. 💚thank you again from your tips!
Thanks for the tip!
What type of soil did you use?
Thanks

Angela, thank you for taking the time to share your knowledge, your garden is beautiful. I don't know if you've done a garden tour... haven't gone through all your videos yet, but if you haven't done one, I'd like to make a request for one 😉.

Love your videos!! They're so helpful! 🙌🏽
Thanks so much!!
Another great video. I grew ginger last year when I lived in much hotter climate and am going to try it attempting to give it a try here in zone 6a. Last year I had so much and did not have a dehydrator but read I could keep it in a jar of vodka in the refrigerator. It's still looking great and now that I do have a dehydrator I need to get at it. Thanks for your great tips.
Beautiful and practical tips! Thank you so much ... looking forward to another one
The baby ginger has the prettiest pink color!
I cook with ginger pretty often, but the rhizome tends to shrivel up before I can use it all. So, I scrape the skin off, slice the ginger, put it in a glass jar with enough vodka to cover, and store it in the refrigerator. It stays good for months and the ginger-flavored vodka can be added to the recipe.
If you cook a lot of Chinese recipes, you probably have pale, dry sherry or Xiaoshing wine on hand. You can use either of those instead of vodka.
So glad I found this video. Very informative. Thanks.
Thanks dear
It was informative

Great video. If you cut up small chunks of onion and place in a bag or container with your ginger, the onion will speed up the process. Learned from another helpful video. Love Ginger

I live in zone 6 and its fall already. ☹️
im going to bring my potted ginger and turmeric plants in my basement and put a grow light on them with a timer this is going to be an experiment for me my Ginger and turmeric plants about eight-month-old... I'm excited to see what happens thank you for this valuable information and for sharing your knowledge with us!😘
Thanks so much
You're welcome!
Thanks Angela for this ginger video 👍 . One query : ginger being a root crop , isn't fish emulsion 5-1-1 high nitrogen for it ? Wouldn't morbloom 0-10-10 be a better choice or may be a mix of both ?
You're probably right. Usually if they soil is good you don't need to feed it. If it's not growing a little fish emulsion could get it growing and encourage some growth in the leaves.
You are awesome!
Thanks for watching.
Thanks Angela for this video about ginger. I just planted mine today and hopefully in 10 months I’ll be harvesting them.
Good luck!
Your video make me to want to grow my own
Very nice video!
Thank you very much!
Thank you for this very informative video. 👍👍👍

New to AZ gardening. Finding your Chanel very helpful. What did you use for the grids in your beds? I have not been able to find a video. Thank you again.

I am new to planting ginger and I want to grow my organic ginger inside place in a 10 gallon tank, I was told to use Epsom salt to help the growth of the organic ginger. And I only have so much space to work with if I plant it outside in my garden and I have my different floors in there. But mostly I want to do a inside winter garden
Wishing you Happy Christmas and Prosperous New year 2024 May God Bless you all
Wow! What an excellent video! Glad I found your video! May Jesus continue to bless you and your family!
Hi Angela, I don’t seem to have much luck with sprouting (or getting the shoots to come up) my ginger despite the fact that I’ve done everything right, from getting good quality ginger (all my ginger initially have great nodules), loose soil, placed in warm sunny spots, etc I’ve also tried different methods and ways from other TH-cam gardeners - planted my ginger outdoors in late Sep (first month of Spring here, zone 11a-b) which gets the morning sun but shielded from the afternoon sun, but nothing’s come up. Others have just dried, or rotted and died when I dug them out to check. 😞 So worrying! 😣 I’m following your video tips now (and Rob Bob Aquaponics), we’ll see what happens! Any additional tips and advice from you would be appreciated! Thanks so much and this was a great resource! 👍😊
What is your soil like? I really like this soil mix growinginthegarden.com/best-soil-for-raised-bed-vegetable-gardening/ It holds moisture but is well draining. That might have something to do with it.
Hello thank you for your experience, how deep the ginger can go deeper?
Thanks for the tips to grow ginger, Angela. I was wondering what is the best month to plant ginger in the ground in the low desert of AZ.
Once temps are warm enough. March or April usually.
So, what is the date of your first video? . The "Mix" doesn't show the date when started; I would like to watch them all.
I enjoy your thoughtful and organized platform. Easy to follow and VERY informative. Tk you for your planning; no wasted time.
I started regularly posting videos in March of 2020. I posted a few prior to that, but not many. Thanks for watching!
So glad I found your channel so much great helpful information!
Glad it was helpful!
You growed ginger so successful
It was a good year for it.
Considering Phoenix temperatures are dropping a lot.. is it safe to leave turmeric for a full winter ?
Tuyệt vời
Good morning angel ❤❤❤❤
Great trips for growing ginger and turmeric, Growing in the Garden. I noticed the tips and edges of ginger and turmeric in the video were dry. Was that from nutrient deficiency or just ageing?
Our hot dry air isn't perfect for growing ginger and turmeric so the edges often get burned - even when shaded.
turmeric is much easier for me, and it likes the harsh sun. This year I germinate both in one location and see how they grow. my ginger sprouts keep dying back after growing a couple inches while turmeric already grew 12".
Thankyou for the tips given. I have grown ginger and turmeric both 2 years back and got wonderful result but this year though my ginger sprouted and grew about 6 inches tall eventually they all died. Turmeric grew but could not yield much. Could you please also tell us the proportion of various ingredients in your soil mix. Also I would like to know if wood chips need to be treated before using in the soil. Thankyou once again for the informative video
Here is the soil I use: growinginthegarden.com/best-soil-for-raised-bed-vegetable-gardening/
Can you make a tea from the turmeric leaves like you do with the ginger leaves?
Good question. I would imagine so, the leaves are very similar and have a beautiful aroma. I never have though.
Thanks, Miss Angela 2023 15 11
I live in 6a, so will need to sprout indoors. How far apart should I plant the sprouted rhizomes?
Usually about 6 - 8 inches apart. If the rhizomes are larger you can give them more room.
I have a hard time finding turmeric in AZ. I bought organic from Sprouts but it didn’t sprout.
I trying fine video about ginger flower what can we use that for or if it's even eat or tea just something only thing I can't fine for a video I have the white ginger 😅 ty for your video & information
Mine haven't flowered, I'm not sure.
@GrowingInTheGarden ok 👍 thank u. I Was wondering if I can put it in freezer and when I'm ready to grow it I can take it back out will that work? Also Frigerator after I cut peace off trying keep it so I can grow it when I want too
Would appreciate to know how to re-plant the non used ginger to keep your production ongoing. God bless and thank you.
Sure, leave some out. You can learn more about presprouting them here: growinginthegarden.com/fast-easy-ways-to-pre-sprout-ginger-turmeric/
I just planted some iam in zone 7-8 I have it planted indoors so hopefully it will grow how long does it take to grow after being planted
It can take up to 10 months. Getting it started indoors is a good idea.
Here in Indonesia, we harvest young ginger used to make candy & ginger drink (locally known as wedang jahe) about 4 month after planting
For mature ginger usually used for cooking & ginger beer, we harvest it about 10~12 month old. This mature ginger is what you see in most store
❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
How many ginger pieces did you plant? I would love a harvest this size so I'm curious how much to plant to get a harvest like this?
I planted 4 pieces per square and about 6 squares.(If I remember right...) so about 24 pieces.
@@GrowingInTheGarden Thank you, this is very helpful. Will try it out this coming season!
If you are using a grow lite how long to leave on lite and what color mine does red blue and both?
Typically 8-10 hours a day. Full spectrum is great.
Ginger sprouts easy.
Growing ginger in north, I've brought plants inside, they are on heat mats due to cool house temps.
Good idea, they don't like the cold.
I have planted both in my garden, turmeric is almost ready to be harvested in winters whereas ginger are in pots and will take more time as planted late .
I'm curious if galangal grows the same way?
It may, I haven't tried growing it before. Looks similar.
If I live in 9a or 9b can I leave turmeric in 5 gallon containers during the winter?
Possibly - move them to a sheltered location if it freezes
@@GrowingInTheGarden when you say sheltered, do you mean just under a covered patio or garage or in the house?
I live in Texas, and the ground rarely freezes(or so we thought 🙈) just saw another ginger root sprouting video. Do you think if I randomly plant rooted ginger nubs in my garden different year times it will do their thing? Or should I stick to their preferred growing season?
You could try it. I'm guessing it will really take off when temps warm in the spring. The cooler temps and moisture may rot it before it can sprout.
I'm very new to gardening and I don't understand how to fertilize. It's so hard...
Fertilizing can be tricky for sure. Getting your soil tested is a great first step, then you have a better idea of where to go from there: amzn.to/3s0PpJB
Could you say how the shading would be, especially in midday and boiling hot sun, please?
Here's a video with more details about shade: th-cam.com/video/E5994TIGQwU/w-d-xo.html
We had our last frost yesterday. I guess I wont be having a 10 month growing season
Try starting indoors first for a head start
Is ginger shallow roots?
It can be - when given more roots they do grow deeper.
👋✨️
Lot off information i didnt now anything about gignger . I have place over in my seedbed and gone surrely try it . Greetings from jp (belgium) ( cooler climate)
Great. Hello from Arizona!
My Ginger leaves are turning yellow when it is just so young. So, what should I do about it?
It may be a sign of overwatering - cut back on watering a bit.
@@GrowingInTheGarden Thank you very much!! 🌱🌿✌🏼✨
I have never been able to root ginger
