I'm in KC zone 6 and finally had a chance to plant some garlic today...hope it's not to late....I should have done it a month ago but how life goes....wish me luck❤
Middle Tennessee, zone 7B - we planted our garlic out in waves this year, b/c our first frost date is still not here. Weeks late. But we planted the last garlic out last weekend. Fingers crossed for us all!
It’s not too late! Im in GC I planted them this time last year and am planning on doing it this upcoming week! The trick is making sure you protect them when they start sprouting in the spring since we get a late freeze typically
I'm in KC too - planted some two weeks ago but didn't have the number I needed, so I just planted the rest today. It's been so warm for so long I'm not super worried. Last year I planted them in late October and they actually started to grow, and then kind of died back when winter actually came, but then grew again in spring and I got beautiful garlic bulbs! And all from grocery store garlic too!.
I've gotten garlic from them for four years. Their garlic is always fresh, and if you have questions, they always contact you back. I know the problems I've had were user issues, not the garlic itself.
❤ I love your videos. I've been watching you both since I started gardening which was March this year. I tried to growing garlic in the summer time that didn't work. However, I tried again and my garlic is looking good. I'm keeping it inside because I am in a kind of a warm climate in North Carolina. Keep doing what you doing guys I love it
Hi from Virginia, My climate might not be quite as warm as yours, but it's pretty similar. November is the perfect time to plant garlic outside, in a grow bag, raised bed, or other garden soil. The cloves will have the winter time to root and fill out a bit and they will take off in the spring. By May or so, the upper leaves will start to turn brown which is when you can harvest. Hope this helps.
Okay Epic guys, I’ve followed your instructions for 3 years and finally this summer I grew some nickel size cloves. They had the cutest cloves about the size of a chickeydee’s little claw. 😂 But I was so happy to finally see a head develop from a clove. So this year I rushed to your store and ordered whatever kind you have. I hope “Epic Eric” blessed the bulbs before mailing cause this is THE year. If I get useless heads I will move on. If I’m blessed with real garlic heads I’ll buy a birdie bed like yours (when on sale of course). Love. Your encouragement guys, you seem to know I failed. 😢
Hey, I've been subscribed for a while, thanks for all of the tips they really help with my gardening! I also run into problems when i grow garlic! So thanks!
I just planted elephant garlic last week and now I’m just waiting for a sign of life😂 I bought them from a local co-op and the cloves looked really pathetic as I caught the last few but we’ll see what happens!💚
Very good to know! Thank you for sharing! And now I understand why you would want to inoculate your bulbs and how to do it. Would you recommend doing the same process with flower bulbs?
My garlic has already been under snow for a few weeks, first year with a yard so first year growing garlic for me. Fingers crossed I did it right, my area usually has great garlic!
Good luck! This is my second year. My first, it was the first thing I planted (got the house end of June) and we had a huge chipmunk problem...I knew they got some of them, but it turns out they took every last one. This year, the chipmunk population has been reduced but I put them under bird netting. Before I did...yep, groundhog got in there and took some. Not sure how many of the 18 cloves I planted he got. Then my neighbor gave me some sprouting garlic he decided he didn't have room for, so now I have three varieties (Trader Joe's organic whatever that is, "European garlic" people have been growing in my neighborhood for about a decade, and something random he couldn't remember the name of. I planted crimson clover as a cover crop for it and will put some marigolds in there come spring.
I just planted a ton of garlic this morning and insulated it well since our nights are cold at the moment. How do y'all keep back pain at bay when gardening all day?
Great workshop!! I have a question though. I had to give up growing garlic here in Aotearoa/New Zealand because of the rust. It was so intense that it prevented the bulb from fully forming, or sometimes the plant was so depleted by the rust that no bulb formed at all. I wonder if the two dips you do before planting will help. Do you have any suggestions?
Spray copper if you can get copper fungicide, Im lucky enough to have commercial ag licenses so i bought some Azoxystrobin and sent that stuff packing.
Older as well. You can buy the really tall beds that take a TON of filling OR you could buy a regular type bed up on legs. Both cost more, but can be a huge lifesaver if you have back issues.
Epic Gardening sells Birdies brand beds in a tall version. We added them little by little and it has made a difference as compared to our lower, wooden beds.
The weather where I live is extremely unpredictable. We normally get a hard freeze by Halloween but we didn't this year my garlic is growing leaves. Is that an issue and how do I fix it?
That's an interesting question. I thought a little green above each clove was supposed to be normal. We don't usually get a hard freeze until around Christmas. During October and November my garlic puts up small leaves, usually around 6", and then it quits growing throughout the colder months of mid December to February and into late March, when it resumes growing. I thought the young green leaves would produce chlorophyll which would encourage root growth during the freeze/thaw cycles in winter. That's an interesting thought though. I struggle a bit with small bulb size at harvest. I tried extra fertilizer this year; I'm waiting to see how it comes out.
I purchased garlic from 3 sources this year, none of them from this channel. Two of them were fine. The last one - a reputable supplier - sent dry, hollow garlic. I'm guessing they use the same source.
@@stephaniegee227 Interesting cause I also ordered seed garlic from my usual supplier and 1/2 of it was molded out inside. I had it in my fridge for a few months but never had an issue doing this method. Just upsetting this year
I just put like 200 cloves in the ground. They're all different, but they always sprout.🤷 Please never put H Peroxide or alcohol onto a bed full or worms and micro organisms. I did that once and it killed all my red wrigglers.
I left some bulbs in the ground forgetting to harvest them. They’ve now sprouted roots a little and I’m going to plant them anyway instead of the garlic I harvested when I should have and dried. Wish me luck. :) I’ve done well planting this late the last 2 years. Western Oregon winters aren’t overly harsh, but it’s a lot of cold and wet for a while.

in Ontario, Canada, just starting to plant my garlic now. Fingers crossed
I haven’t planted yet because i was worried that the 20-36°f weather was too cold
I bought garlic from Keene and they recommended the same peroxide and fertilizer dunks. Hoping for a great garlic season!

I add bone meal to the planting holes of my Garlic when I set them in late Autumn/early Winter

If you like the taste of leeks you might like to try growing elephant garlic. It still tastes like garlic but mild and cloves are mostly huge.
Do you add sulfur?

Oh please some ideas for the back pain with garlic planting!

Hey didn’t Jacques say something about he’d have a good suggestion for something to do with the small cloves too? Is that in another vid?
Just pop them all in a pot like an inch apart and use the tops like green onions but they taste like garlic.
Slugs ruined my garden this year. I didn't catch them in the act until it was too late and we finally had rain after 10 weeks of dryness
Darn it, this was super late for us up north. Will try the method next year. I just replanted what I grew last season
Yup, about a month. Freezing temps will be consistent starting in a few days!
I just wanna know what vine is growing on the wall across the street!
Always remember that big bulbs are and a hardneck are crucial for succession planting.
I wrote to Kean Garlic about the paper skin on / off thing. they said it makes no difference.
I was expecting the laughing intro with the boys walk on

Plant late April, dig a hole and plant deep, seems to work, grow inland Canterbury New Zealand. Have 4 different types growing well.
Spray copper if you can get copper fungicide, Im lucky enough to have commercial ag licenses so i bought some Azoxystrobin and sent that stuff packing.
I am older. How do you get the beds elevated?

@ Thank you
are these specific garlic or can i use garlic i get at the market?
Great info . Thank you
Thanks Eric
The weather where I live is extremely unpredictable. We normally get a hard freeze by Halloween but we didn't this year my garlic is growing leaves. Is that an issue and how do I fix it?
Nope it will be fine. I live in 5a. They will be awesome I promise.
Mulch those tenders against the cold, they should be okay if there's a layer against the cold wind.
That's an interesting question. I thought a little green above each clove was supposed to be normal. We don't usually get a hard freeze until around Christmas. @asteria4279 they already have 4 inches of mulch and the greens are sticking out several inches pas that
@goatkidmom I've got several inches of leaf over the mulch
Your supplier is crap though. I ordered bulbs, and they're dry and hollow.
But i bet he pays well
I purchased garlic from 3 sources this year, none of them from this channel. Two of them were fine. The last one - a reputable supplier - sent dry, hollow garlic. I'm guessing they use the same source.
Same. Only 2 bulbs grew. I got more using grocery store bulbs
@@stephaniegee227 Interesting cause I also ordered seed garlic from my usual supplier and 1/2 of it was molded out inside. I had it in my fridge for a few months but never had an issue doing this method. Just upsetting this year
What supplier? If it's Keane, I've never had issues
does farmers crow garlic from the tubers or the seeds?
Seed garlic are just the separate cloves.
love it got to try it
me : looks outside at the snowstorm
me : hmmm yeah it's too late for garlic I think
I just put like 200 cloves in the ground. They're all different, but they always sprout.🤷 Please never put H Peroxide or alcohol onto a bed full or worms and micro organisms. I did that once and it killed all my red wrigglers.
Where's the chuckle in the intro???
I thought the chuckles usually only on the homestead channel
Talk about the nachos

I don’t have very good luck growing garlic
I think I water it too much
Can I grow hard neck and soft neck garlic in central TEXAS

LMNT is awesome. No sugar so its great for low carb or diabetics. I like the grapefruit. I have even given it to my miniature horses.
