Ever since I have found your show, I have been binging on the past shows. Sadly, I am near the end. I have enjoyed watching the evolution of this show. The evolution of Tony's growing tattoo collection, various hairstyles of Noah, the increased interaction with Levi and Noah, the dart challenge which seems to have been faded out but I got a kick out of, the addition of Matt, the increase of subscribers, and the slight increase in length of show time which is great. Can't get enough! This has fired me up to keep practicing! I have told all of my friends who play about this show and can't wait to see how the Acoustic Life will continue to evolve. Tony, Noah, and Levi . . . . . cheers!
Carlsbad California here! Migrated from Utah and loving the beach and being able to just randomly show up at the beach and jam with other guitar players, harmonica players, drummers! Thanks Tony for being the one consistent connection to my acoustic guitar love! You need to do a remote show from Swami's at the beach --
Love the show!! My wife and I love watching as we are beginners in the guitar world and learning. we just recently bought our first acoustic guitars I purchased a Martin 000cxe and she bought an Epiphone dove pro!
Yes Tony you are correct!! That is the newest addition to my acoustic section and the sunburst Tele is my newest electric. Sorry I didn't provide a list or my name, I was just too excited to be sharing my guitarsenal with you guys that I forgot lol another great episode as usual!!!! In case you're wondering, from left to right: 1989 Fender American Standard Strat Morrell M93 acoustic Eleca 5-string banjo Squier Affinity Tele Godin 5th Avenue archtop
Thanks for the spotlight on Grit Laskin. I was fortunate enough to know Grit while he was apprenticed to Jean Larrivee Sr. and when he opened up his first shop in Toronto, and just after he did, I bought what now must be among the oldest Laskin guitars in captivity. Even then, he produced just staggeringly wonderful guitars and its now 40+ years old cedar top makes it the joy of my life and centrepiece of my Guitarsenal. Aside from being a remarkable luthier, Grit is simply one of the finest human beings it has ever been my pleasure to meet. He treats everyone he meets with respect, always pulls out the positive from any conversation, and is infinitely generous with his time, his attention, and his wealth of knowledge about instruments and traditional music. Much like Tony P, I have to say. Canada has seen fit to appoint him to the Order of Canada (much like a Canadian knighthood), and he enhances the reputation of the honour by being one of the chosen. He's not boastful or loud, and he's a pretty small guy too, so if you'e lucky enough to be somewhere he is, seek him out and just share a few minutes. It will be something you will never forget. -- David P., TAC/FBWiz/Song Vault member.& Guitarsenalist
Matt, guys; Thanks for the 12 fret/14 fret information. I have totally gone for 12 frets over the last year or so. I now have a Preston Thompson (current fav) Parlor 2 all mahogany, Waterloo WL-12 and Collings DS2H (a little larger than I like). My feeling about the location of the bridge in the lower bout is why I feel these sound so so good! Hey thanks for everything love my tuesdays.
#smallwin I was excited to see you finally have featured the G7 Guitar Project on Acoustic Tuesday. (George Gray was the luthier you missed when you rattled them off.) What's a bit ironic is that the exhibit just closed last Sunday, March 18. TAC members might recall that I posted two in-depth trip reports in the forum after my visits to the McMichael Canadian Art Collection "Acoustic Conversations" programs in July (featuring Tony McManus playing Linda Manzer's Lawren Harris harp guitar) and in October (featuring Kevin Breit playing Tony Duggan-Smith's AY Jackson harp-guitar). Through those two visits, I was able to meet and chat with five of the seven luthiers (all except de Jonge and Larivee) and every one of them was incredibly gracious and approachable. Not only are these luthiers amazing artists - they are great people. Through my posts, I encouraged others to visit the McMichael and see the exhibit for themselves. I hope some of you took advantage of that before the exhibit closed last Sunday. If you missed it, I am happy to say I exchanged emails with Linda Manzer just yesterday (just before AT aired, in fact!) and learned there is some talk of the exhibit traveling, possibly to England.
Absolutely love my Taylor 812ce 12 fret. With the cutaway I never miss the added reach of the 14 fret and the fullness of the 12 fret design is amazing due to the placement of the bridge.
Great feature on 12-fret vs 14-fret. Last year, my wife picked up a guitar in a nearby store and handed it to me like "here, play this one cause I like it". I played and was like "what is this?". It was a Taylor 812ce 12-Fret....I fell in love on the spot. My next acoustic will be concert body 12-fret for sure!
Love the show, and especially the Guitarsenals. If you sold a calendar featuring the twelve (or more) best Guitarsenal photos, I bet you would sell a few to us guitar geeks.
#smallwin I didn't buy a guitar today. I have 10 and an agreement in writing with my wife that 10 is the max. For about 7 years after I retired, I bought a new acoustic guitar every 5-6 months. 3 periods now and no new guitar. Factors: 1) limited Taylor inventory at my favorite store, 2) my current Guitarsenal is just too nice. Can't decide which one to give up.
Hi gents, another great show. I would love to catch it live but I have to work to pay for the guitars. Definitely the the best Guitar show out there. Love the tips, love the trivia, and love the music picks. Thank you for the show and thank you for TAC.
Love the "what you're listening to" section each week!!!! Always looking for new discoveries. I don't remember you ever mentioning John Moreland.... Probably my favorite right now.... Keep up the great work!!!! Love the show.
Small win I went to my first blue grass festival. Had an absolute blast. Jamed until wee hrs with different musicians from different bands. My highlight was we where jamming with one of the headliners, it was my rotation. I asked the the fiddle player if he new Amarillo by morning, he nodded and I started to play., half way in the first Verse, Pete shooted out stop, jimmy give me that fiddle. We re played the song with full entry and all the fills , runs and breaks it was asome .
Could you do a segment on guitar player nail care? I want to start playing finger style, but I’m struggling to get my nails long enough! Thanks for the good show gents! I appreciate the info and entertainment. My toddler appreciates the music. 😊
I was JUST talking to Tony about this! Didn't realize it was an AcousticLife video until after I saw the thumbnail and was like, "Yeah! I need to know this information!" Lol Thanks @AcousticLife.tv!
A friend of mine bought 3 new Kawasaki motorcycles over a few years as they were updated, & his wife had no idea coz they were all green with identical `saki decals!
It’s worth adding that there are other approaches to 12 vs 14 fret. Some 12 frets use the same body as for 14 with the bridge shoved back. Others have the bridge in the same place relative to the bottom but the body is longer, extending up the fingerboard as it were. Often a 12 fret neck has a shorter scale too. So there are other possibilities apart from the points you made about the two guitars you compared.
Another great show guys! I am excited to say (as I revisit my comment from last week) that my "possible #SmallWin" is now a real #SmallWin! I bought a new guitar over the weekend. I am waiting anxiously for it to arrive. I found a music store that had a brand new Eastman AC-OM2, all solid Sapele guitar, that was built back in 2016. He was selling it as a "Mint Used Guitar" at a decent discount because of its age. Eastman guitars are all handmade in Beijing, China. This company came highly recommended by another guitar geek friend of mine, which made the decision even easier. SO EXCITED!
I use the red gasket rings from Grolsch bottles to lock my strap onto my Taylor. They cost maybe 50 cents. Go to your local homebrew store to get them.
Glad you and Whitney enjoyed the DVD. Maybe Officer Noah can sign you out on a day pass so that you can watch it again with your Partners in Crime. Congratulations on another great show.
#smallwin got a screaming deal on a Larivée D-03 off reverb that came today to add to my #guitarsenal. Also, I checked out the documentary on John Fahey you suggested in a past episode. I love the show!
What a show this week! Ask Matt was good, the plastic strap pin is a great idea, Tyler Childers voice is amazing. I liked the youknowyou'reaguitargeekwhen section. Couldn't believe some of the answers! The DVD looks really interesting and the guitarsenals were great. Loved Matt's one, and you can bet we were all going "2 dogs?", where's the other one?
I’m late to this party, but have to say something about the strap jack that folks should be aware of. When plugged into the jack it turns on the electric pickup system and thus it activates the battery and will run it down if the jack is left plugged in for long periods of time.
Ever since I first saw your show earlier this year, I have been hooked. So many awesome artists I had never heard of, so much kit I had no clue was out there and you guys dynamisk is awesome. Please keep up the awesome show. One question: when is the next scotch/burbon darts challenge? Oh and #SmallWin saw Tommy Emmanuel live in Bergen, Norway last night and discovered an awesome acoustic guitarist I had not heard of before. Anthony Snape. Really recommend checking out his music. Hi guys-- I bought the strap jack and tried it on my Taylor with ES2 system. The Strap Jack causes the ES2 to turn on, wasting battery life. Ugh. BUT-- It's good on my Martin with K&K Pure Mini Pickup!
I have 3 Taylors. Used to have 4 but, before I discovered the strap jack, had one slip just like in the video here and splatter on concrete. NEVER AGAIN. #smallwin Actually a big one for me. Went to a local acoustic jam and SANG and played. This was my first time singing solo in public. Sang Ramblin’ Round by Woodie Guthrie and Katie Daley. It was so much fun!
Those strap jacks work great, (I have one in clear, and one in black) BUT like Brian S noted, they turn on the pickup system in some Taylor guitars, such as my GS Mini, so I don't use a strap jack with it, but works great on other guitars.
#smallwin - I had the chance to go to Aruba last month on business but was afraid to travel with one of my guitars, having never traveled on an airplane with a guitar before. While I was there I found what turned out to be the island’s only music store, Cliffix Musical Instruments. I spoke with the owner about renting a guitar for the week. They didn’t rent guitars, but he did point me to a pawn shop. I was able to secure an inexpensive but solid Fender acoustic. I had the small win of playing guitar on the beach for the awesome sunsets! Also checked a bucket list item off!
#Small Win, signed up to TAC on Friday 23rd March and can play the 12 bar blues by Saturday, but it didn’t seem to have an ending, so I ended it with C, C# and A. So chuffed that I could work this out.
12 fret will give you better response, but less sustain. 14 will give you good response and longer sustain. I am not a strummer, but a fingerstylist. I also like to use the higher notes.... thus, 14 fret with cutaway... for me. Cheers!

Watching from Alder, MT. #youknowyou'reaguitargeekwhenyou are excited to take the Subaru for it's recall visit to Bozeman so you can spend two hours playing guitars at Music Villa.
I have to disagree as far as fingerpicking. The 12 fretters are better suited for that in my opinion because they usually come with a wider nut/fretboard and they have a shorter reach as well.
#small win Wife accused me of being stricken with Guitar acquisition syndrome and wanted me to thin the heard. SO, I brought a couple to the office, which satisfied her concern.
#guitargeekwhen you know you're a guitar geek when "you're counting the days until the end of your vacation so that you can get back to your favorite guitar."
#smallwin I saw Tyler Childers perform last Summer at the River Rat festival in Gallipolis, Ohio, he's from not far away. If you like him, you have to listen to Caamp, a couple guys from Columbus, Ohio. I know you will like them as well.
I always try and unsnap my chords when not playing my acoustic electric because it will unnecessarily drain the pre-amp battery. Will the strap jack cause the battery to continue to drain just as the chord would if still plugged in?
#askmatt Hello Matt, would you do an A/B with same series/12 vs 14 fret? Example: Taylor 814ce vs 812ce 12 fret. Thanks. Disregard Matt, found comparo on Taylor web site. Thanks
HEA NOAH, HOW DO YOU RIDE YOUR BIKE IN THE SNOW. USE THAT HELMET, BE CAREFUL, TONY NEEDS YOU GUYS HE WOULD BE LOST I THINK. GREAT SHOW AND IM LISENING TO MALCOLM HOLCOME HERE IN SUNNY RURAL FLORIDA.
#askmatt: Why doesn’t Matt ever play the guitars? He just spent ?5 minutes? Talking about the sound differences between 12 and 14 fret guitars and I was dying to hear the difference...
I agree. You go to the trouble of making a video to answer a question. The answer involves the sound differences of the two guitars. You have the guitars at your side, and even hold both, but you don't play them. I appreciate that the recording of the true sound of the guitars may not be achievable with his recording equipment, if he is just making a quick video. And of course we will all listen to it on different devices so the sound quality may be further reduced, BUT we are guitar geeks and it's a guitar geek programme. We're not really expecting the sound that we here to be exactly what comes out of the guitar and most of us would just like to hear Matt play for 30 seconds on each guitar. Just because we like hearing people play guitar! Honest! Could we make it happen in future video's? Could we? Could we?
Bill Stafford I agree with wanting to hear the guitars. Matt did an excellent run down on bracing and how it affects the sound board and intonation. 👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼

Ken Rich it’s funny how women can collect shoes, purses, etc but they don’t want a well crafted musical instrument. If the guy is paying the bills, just saying. I love my guitars .
#youknowyou'reaguitargeekwhen. Your good friend and his girlfriend split up and she leaves the house for a few days and you ask her ex if you can have her guitar.....no judgment please, I was just kidding.

Hi guys-- I bought the strap jack and tried it on my Taylor with ES2 system. The Strap Jack causes the ES2 to turn on, wasting battery life. Ugh.
BUT-- It's good on my Martin with K&K Pure Mini Pickup!
Brian, Great point about the battery being engaged on active pickups :-)
I have 3 Taylors. Used to have 4 but, before I discovered the strap jack, had one slip just like in the video here and splatter on concrete. NEVER AGAIN. I now have a strap jack in all my guitar cases and a spare just incase I loose one. I highly recommend this very inexpensive item as basically an insurance policy.
29:19 I have to chime in and say I very much agree with this comment. All of you makes a person like me feel right at home. Thanks :)

Had a 6-7 week work trip that allowed me to save money for a Limited English Walnut J-45. Came back to buy it only to find a J-15 that sounded, played, and looked better on sale! Needless to say, I got my walnut fix.
Also, loving the show! Found it this weekend and have been binge watching it since.
As the time flies by, Tony wears more and more tattoos.
Townes Van Zandt did the most beautiful rendition of Fraulein I have ever heard.
Wonderful! Absolutely wonderful!
Love the passion of Grit!!
hands down the OOO-12 fret and OO-12 fret are the two best designs in the acoustic steel string guitar world ❣❣

PIcs of the silo residence, please Tony!!

Holy cow, just found something on Pandora, its called "The Guitar" by Guy Clark. Holy friggin twang diddly dang.
I have to disagree as far as fingerpicking. The 12 fretters are better suited for that in my opinion because they usually come with a wider nut/fretboard and they have a shorter reach as well.
Matt needs to get his acoustic record out, he’s got some serious stuff
I love Guy Clarks song “Black Diamond Strings”.
#askmatt. Why do some players prefer a slotted headstock instead of the more common solid headstock?
I wish Matt would play more, as he is a great guitarist.
Hi y'all.....another great AT!
I keep missing the LIVE event being streamed . What time is it presented ??

I always try and unsnap my chords when not playing my acoustic electric because it will unnecessarily drain the pre-amp battery. Will the strap jack cause the battery to continue to drain just as the chord would if still plugged in?
Dan, It will engage the battery if left plugged in so best to remove it when done :-)
So glad y’all got to find Tyler Childers, new aged guy bringing great country back!!!

#askmatt Hello Matt, would you do an A/B with same series/12 vs 14 fret? Example: Taylor 814ce vs 812ce 12 fret. Thanks.
Disregard Matt, found comparo on Taylor web site. Thanks

#guitargeekwhen your wife gets the back seat in the car because the guitars are safer in the front seat with the seat belt fastened!
#askmatt Could you please play the guitars for us? Would love to hear them.
So sad ! I expected a sound sample comparing the 12 and 14 fret guitars.

#guitargeekwhen YOUR GIRLFRIEND THREATENS TO LEAVE YOU IF YOU BUY ONE MORE GUITAR.
Ken Rich it’s funny how women can collect shoes, purses, etc but they don’t want a well crafted musical instrument. If the guy is paying the bills, just saying. I love my guitars .
Kathy M yes sooo true thank you for your comment !!!
Buy it, Ken!

Ken Rich, she simply was not worth the investment. Your guitar, however........Lol
#youknowyou'reaguitargeekwhen. Your good friend and his girlfriend split up and she leaves the house for a few days and you ask her ex if you can have her guitar.....no judgment please, I was just kidding.
Also, bought a bottle of four roses single barrel on Tony's recommendation. I'm a bourbon fan now. Thanks for the show and all involved.
