It was my honor and pleasure to have MC’d for him at the NJ Folk project weekend. He was a rare individual. He invited my 8 year old son up on the stage with him to perform. I miss him.To hear him tell a story was a delight.
When I was a kid, I used to see Will, Gamble and Bill Hewitt singing songs at our campsite in White Springs, in the sixties. I remember another name..Slade Clewett. I was very young, but I remember singing Tate's Hell with Will McLean and my brothers. It's good to see this here.
Gamble was truly in the "Southern Gentleman" tradition, and obviously had a keen sense of the "good old boy" culture. He was dignified and empathetic, even when playing such "Terminal Taverns" as Frog's Landing, Cedar Key Florida. First and foremost a musician, he worked and re-worked his repertoire in much the same way that brought his finger-style guitar pickin' to perfection.

Wonderful memory. I have a distant memory of him at the Junior Museum in the early 70s.
