It lets him sing easier! There's an interview about it somewhere but it releases pressure on a nerve that's strained due to the horrible posture he stays in the entire show, or something like that. But I do agree that it's adorable!!

ejay reyes but do you see how he walks offstage?? he angrily steps around evan while shoving his satchel to his side and pushing his hands in his pockets. THEN he sprints offstage. you can clearly see that he’s mad or upset about something (some other people say he actually waved at evan before that) and it makes me so sad holy shoot.

It's a fantastic song, but the suggestion that its the most beautiful solo known to mankind us nothing but utter festering loads of idiotic and blatantly untrue utter BS Countless solos of countless types are significantly more beautiful in every possible aspect, and while it may be one of the best in theater history It's not even remotely the best in general or even within that genre. And that's a fact, proving you're just an ignorant, tasteless 💩 stain that doesn't know the first damn thing about quality solos. Pipe down upand educate yourself before you spout such ignorant BS again, do us all a favor. Permaleaving and reading no replies so this is our last contact deal with it.
If Broadway shows sold official dvds I swear to god I'd loose all my savings on them, and half of them only on having extra copies of this show. No matter how many times I watch the bootleg or listen to the song, watching this full staging makes me cry. Its so intense and emotional.
I don't know they they don't sell professionally filmed copies of Broadway shows once they close. I get why they don't do it for shows still in production....but so many shows close and then no one can see them live anymore. Having the Broadway show for Newsies be filmed and put on Netflix/sold digitally was a special treat from Disney, but I've NEVER heard of that happening for other musicals, though they did a special 25th anniversary Netflix streaming of Phantom of the Opera (which has the best performances of all time). They are making a movie musical of Wicked, but we will never get to see the live performance of the Broadway musical on DVD, Netflix, etc. Movie theaters understand audiences....but musical theater productions simply don't.
You should really check out stagedork.com ;) Most of them aren't professional, but they are often really good!
You can buy staged musicals legally. Memphis, Shrek, Sweeney Todd, Into the Woods... these were all staged versions recorded.

I'm still mad come from away didn't do better. I can understand having seen both shows why DEH won best score - the music just washes over you when you see it live - but in my opinion Come From Away should have won best score. I'm glad it won best direction though.

oh my gosh. Watching this performance, with the staging and other characters surrounding him and all of it, it gave the song an entire new meaning to me. "Tap-tap-tapping on the glass"--this song is talking about social media! The window he's waving through, the one we are all waving through--it's our phones! It's the glass we endlessly tap on. "Watch, watch, watching people pass"? It's talking about the endless scrolling. How I didn't realize this until I saw this performance I don't know, but I am so glad I understand this second layer of meaning now. Now I'm gonna watch it again.

Thanks for posting this. For anyone who is looking for the televised version, CBS took them down from everywhere. They are selling the show segments on Amazon (2.99 a price). If you want this segment you have to pay 2.99. All segments which is probably not even the entire show will cost something like $40.
Feel free to share your thoughts on this move, I'm sure CBS execs will care.

I've always loved theater and wanted to make it a part of my life and as I saw Ben deliver this beautiful performance at such a young age it really has given me confidence that I can do something with my life along the same lines. Also the song is something much needed in the world- something to remind us as humans what we are, we are all vulnerable in need of others to live alongside each other. And simply to be able to make us feel such raw emotion as it is displayed so seemlesly on stage is truly magical! Thank you so much
