One major memory about this movie was how Charlie's sister was on stand by, knowing a regression from Charlie was not a matter of if, but when. Her reaction was immediate and probably rehearsed in her head over and over. This was something that was always with her no matter where she was or what she was doing. It is going to happen and she was always ready. The idea of her constant dread and fear is mind blowing. I can only compare it to having a parent with a heart condition, and the child is constantly worrying and vigilant.
its really too bad that they cut all the scenes of Charlie and her bonding together dealing with her abortion. It really drives home how close they became
Her voice cracking up when Charlie hangs up 😭 Really wish they didn’t selete the scenes with her and Charlie, would have shown how much close they actually are.
There's a great deleted scene during his isolation from the friend group where his sister finds out she's pregnant by Ponytail Derek and she gets an abortion with Charlie's help. Shame they cut it to avoid an R rating, it reallly established their relationship.
The truth about Aunt Helen is even more messed up in the book, cause he frequently calls her his favorite aunt, has you 100% convinced that she was one of his personal champions, and her death was just another thing he blamed himself for. And then we find out the truth. He wasn't just keeping it from everyone else. He was keeping it from himself.
I think I remember reading something in relation to this movie about how some family predators will give extra presents and slightly special attention, both as a form of "apology" and also to keep them quiet. Then Charlie says Aunt Helen basically used to do that with him and it just hits so much harder. And especially since the parents had no idea

There’s a deleted scene I wish they had left in the movie. Candace gets an abortion and has a heart to heart with Charlie who accompanies her. Their bond is pretty amazing because we find out Candace was going through a lot as well.
This book/film is the closest depiction of my actual teen experience, and the people who were my friends and peers, that I've seen up to this point (I graduated high school in '86). Hit very close to the bone in too many respects, but rather than dragging me into self-indulgent melancholy it made me glad to know some things are universal and most of us survive them.
Just started this and had to pause to define “wallflower” for you guys. Back in the old days… at least early 1800… probably before. Women had to wait to be asked to dance. So they’d be all dressed up pretty and standing against the wall together if no one asked. Some ladies could stand there through multiple dances… sometimes the entire season… if you never got asked, you eventually become a spinster and never marry and that was the worst possible outcome for your life (back then) so getting asked to dance was a step towards being popular, being courted… eventually getting married. Not getting asked to dance was essentially the death of all that. So being called a wallflower is one of the worst insults. Especially because usually it was kinda true. And if you were known as a wallflower… chances are guys would think something was wrong with you and it would be even more unlikely that they’d ask you to dance.

In the book, there is a main theme in everything Charlie experiences. It's not highlighted in the movie as much, but it's the circle of trauma and specifically intergenerational trauma in families. Charlie's dad is an example of "breaking out" from the vicious circle, as he was physically abused in childhood and swore to never do anything like that. Aunt Helen is an example of continuing the truma, because she herself was a victim of similar events in childhood. If I remember correctly Charlie's best friend once said to him that "a person can either be a sponge or a filter" and it just explains everythig perfectly.
This was such a wholesome video. This movie makes me so sad because I watch from Charlie's pov holding my breath. This video reminded me how funny this movie is and the good experiences Charlie experiences.

Loved this movie! They filmed it in my town of Pittsburgh, PA. We always loved going through the tunnel and it was great to see how they displayed it in the film. Also, we love the theatre where they performed Rocky Horror Picture Show. 🤘😎🤘
I saw this movie and loved it so much I immediately watched it again. I've never done that with another movie. Then I noticed that the director wrote the book it was based on I immediately downloaded the book and read it.
I’m from the Pittsburgh area and loved how they incorporated the city and the Pgh culture into the film! “Wonder Boys” is another amazing movie filmed in Pittsburgh. One of my all-time favorites.
This is my all-time favorite book so I was overjoyed they were going to make it into a movie. I don’t love the movie as much as the book (just the format of it works so much better in book form) but I do love it!
This is both my comfort movie and also a movie I have to be in a good head space to watch. I relate too heavily to what happened to Charlie with his aunt that although I love the movie and book, I need to be mentally okay to watch or read it.
So manyyyy great actors in this movie. I need to re watch it has been a few years

So Charlie felt so bad about his aunt because he felt that he caused it. He knew what she was secretly doing to him, and probably wished her dead. Then she dies, in a car accident getting HIM a toy... So he just always felt like he was the one to blame for her death, and EVERYBODY loved her, because no one knew what she was doing to Charlie the entire time...
I can't think of Ezra without remembering this movie and mourning how far they've(?) fallen. They just seemed so nice and chill [here]-- I know it's acting, but still.

Love this movie because I was like Charlie except more weird and an more of an outcast, even with the other outcasts at local concerts, I was in the background and not many even tried to be friends with me
Awesome reaction dudes. I understand what you're saying about generalizing a whole gender or group of people, but I'm gonna give some pushback to play devil's advocate. Societal conditioning does exist. It's why we feel comfortable doing some things and not others. Like jaywalking is a lot more accepted than say cussing in front of kids. But back to dating generalizations. There are exceptions of course but it would be wacko to say the challenges of dating are the same for both genders. So, the generalizations are proven right by what pattern of behavior has been laid out or deemed acceptable. I've probably been approached by maybe 1 or 2 girls in my whole life, yet I've approached hundreds. Women more less have to filter out the weirdos from the onslaught of attention they get, while men have to make the first move and prove themselves over and over again without getting discouraged. So, yeah, nothing is ever 100 percent true for everyone in dating situations, but the patterns of behavior are very true imo.

In the book Charlie there’s a poem that’s really good!
Once on a yellow piece of paper with green lines
he wrote a poem
and he called it "chops"
because that was the name of his dog
and thats what it was all about
his teacher gave him an A
and a gold star
and his mother hung it on the kitchen door
and read it to his aunts.
that was the year Father Tracy
took all the kids to the zoo
and he let them sing on the bus
and his little sister was born
with tiny nails and no hair
and his mother and father kissed a lot
and the girl around the corner sent him a
Valentine signed with a row of X's
and he had to ask his father what the X's meant
and his father always tucked him in bed at night
and was always there to do it
once on a piece of white paper with blue lines
he wrote a poem
he called it "Autumn"
because that was the name of the season
and that's what it was all about
and his teacher gave him an A
and asked him to write more clearly
and his mother never hung it on the kitchen door
because of the new paint
and the kids told him
that Father Tracy smoked cigars
and left butts on the pews
and sometime they would burn holes
that was the year his sister got glasses
with thick lenses and black frames
and the girl around the corner laughed
when he asked her to go see santaclaus
and the kids told him why
his mother and father kissed a lot
and his father never tucked him in bed at night
and his father got mad
when he cried for him to do it
once on a paper torn from his notebook
he wrote a poem
and he called it "Innocence: A Question"
because that was the question about his girl
and thats what it was all about
and his professor gave him an A
and a strange steady look
and his mother never hung it on the kitchen door
because he never showed her
that was the year Father Tracy died
and he forgot how the end
of the Apostles's Creed went
and he caught his sister
making out on the back porch
and his mother and father never kissed
or even talked
and the girl around the corner
wore too much make up
that made him cough when he kissed her
but he kissed her anyway
because it was the thing to do
and at 3 am he tucked himself into bed
his father snoring soundly
that's why on the back of a brown paper bag
he tried another poem
and he called it "Absolutely Nothing"
because that's what it was really all about
and he gave himself an A
and a slash on each damned wrist
and he hung it on the bathroom door
because this time he didn't think
he could reach the kitchen
this movie legit made me bawl my eyes our such a good movie
You guys might like Garden State and The Fault in Our Stars.
I second “Garden State”! Great movie!
Loved this movie! They filmed it in my town of Pittsburgh, PA. We always loved going through the tunnel and it was great to see how they displayed it in the film. Also, we love the theatre where they performed Rocky Horror Picture Show. 🤘😎🤘
I relate to a lot to Charlie. This is why I love this movie and book.
I wish they made a second one of this. That way we can see what happens to their characters after all this.
I ain’t quitting 😅: you guys should watch “Scent of a Woman”, you’re gonna love it
that cancer line was brutal but I respect honesty
Yes my favorite so proud you guys watched it! Thank you for all you do!
Please react to "The Way Way Back" with Steve Carell next! You guys will love it.
I saw this movie and loved it so much I immediately watched it again. I've never done that with another movie. Then I noticed that the director wrote the book it was based on I immediately downloaded the book and read it.
Love this movie so freakin' much! Loved both your reactions as well.
This is a good movie
God i love this movie. It's my favorite comfort movie and watching your reaction to it was awesome! 🫶🏽
i’ve had a horrible day and this is my favorite movie so thank you for watching this and making my day slightly better
Ahh i always cry every time I watch this movie 😅😭 love the reaction!
My favorite movie! It honestly changed me for the best
severely underrated movie. one of the best coming of age movies out there.
filmed in Pittsburgh. the diner they were in actually had a sign saying the actors from this movie sat here, sadly the diner closed.
I’m from the Pittsburgh area and loved how they incorporated the city and the Pgh culture into the film!
“Wonder Boys” is another amazing movie filmed in Pittsburgh. One of my all-time favorites.
This is your best reaction so far.
I love this movie. Very very relatable to myself🤟🏻Awesome reactions! 💚
Great movie. Long before Ezra Miller lost their mind.
I can't think of Ezra without remembering this movie and mourning how far they've(?) fallen. They just seemed so nice and chill [here]-- I know it's acting, but still.
Ya'll should react to where the wild things are, labyrinth, the devils rejects, the girl down the lane, the end of the world 2012 bro they r so good. :D
This is my favorite movie guys nice timing I got nothing to do
Another great reaction I'm personally 50/50 on the film tho hope u boys can finish the expendables and transport films
I was a bit of a wall flower back in middle school and half way through high school. Great movie
this is my favorite movie ❤ thx for reacting to it
Oh my goodness I've been waiting for this!!! 😭
Great Great Movie
Are you guys ever gonna get back to Daniel Craig’s 007 films? I know Quantum of Solace wasn’t that good but the remaining 3 are 🔥
I love this film, which feels weird to say being as dark as it is.
In my opinion, there is no world actress more beautiful, cute and sweeter than Emma Watson and will not be born in this century. I adore her, because it's an eye balm ☺❤
U should give Me, Earl, and The Dying Girl a shot.
I have been binge watching your channel for the last few hours since I found it and from what I know you two don’t like tv shows but I think from what I’ve seen you guys would really like the boys, GOT, or perhaps even clone high if your willing to go animated. (That being said I already love your content)
Hell of a movie. the drama and the fear was very good.
Love this movie because I was like Charlie except more weird and an more of an outcast, even with the other outcasts at local concerts, I was in the background and not many even tried to be friends with me
This one's a comfort movie. ❤
Great reaction.
