    Gorgeous, I really want a Mayones myself, someday...
    I've really been enjoying your channel man, I find you quite inspiring, You've talked about issues that you've had yourself, that I've had in the past, like I used to play mostly just punk but then I discovered math rock and I didn't know much about chords besides a couple cowboy chords and I had to expand my knowledge to discover new territories, and seeing how you've progressed since gives me hope for my playing.

    I am between Hydra Seven vs Ormsby Custom Goliath. Both are handcrafted I am from Czech. The difference is the Ormsby guitar MS 25.-27.8 and Hydra is standard scale 25.4 which I am ok with both mostly lower I wanna go is Drop Gis. I can't decide which one I like the looks of both of them. But I really like the 2 things u mentioned here on Hydra. That corner wood, which great for protecting tuners, and even if you have that shape for a more classical position like Strandberg and Also Ormsby got. I always play more on the left lap and the rest of the corner of the guitar is on the right leg and that cool wood construction is made for it. And Another very well-thought thing is that S CLAMP, that steel plate at "non-head" is just great, protecting that.

    I’m in to the crazy metal style playing - I spend slot of time practicing three note per string excerpts and other widdly routines. Does the arch in the body help with upright classical position.

    Hydra is a beast with many heads and if you cut off one its heads, two more will grow to replace it. So perhaps you are told to buy another one, since this one is headless already hah haa. (= Subliminal marketing for sure) By the way great playing on a stunning guitar, I loved whatever happened at 00:13 and 00:16, those changes were fabulous, though I couldn't say whether I understand the theory behind them or not. Cheers.

    Thanks Levi, really brief and very nice review not to mention your great playing and tone). Btw I was wondering about two questions.Does it make any difference when the second strap pin is on the rear surface? And the second one is about the tone in this video, it's sooo nice, reminds of Eric Johnson, but maybe that's because of some licks you played. Could you specify the chain you had ? Good job!

    • @LeviClay
      @LeviClay  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I'd not really thought about it... but yes! Having the strap on the back like that means the strap doesn't twist off your shoulder!
      As for the tone - it's straight into my Kemper, using a Fuchs ODS 50 profile I believe - but yeah, very mid heavy with the top rolled back. Very EJ is sound.

    I own a couple Kiesel Vaders and play in classical position often, never had a problem with the tuners. Not sure if Mayones thought of that design for that reason, but it really is not necessary.

    • @LeviClay
      @LeviClay  6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I get what you're saying, but just because you've not noticed an issue, it doesn't suddenly make it a sensible design. When I watch a video like this, I just think that it's asking for trouble... so why take the risk?
      th-cam.com/video/uz9nknGmkf8/w-d-xo.html

    • @TheLinuxExperience
      @TheLinuxExperience 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Levi Clay Well, not sure if you have played a Vader, but it's just not an issue. Not because of me, because it just isn't. I checked again and the angle of the guitar and the player's thigh... It is just not an easy way to mess with the tuners. Unless you do something awkward or exaggerated. It certainly is not a problem for practice.

    • @LeviClay
      @LeviClay  6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Chema Martín in the video I posted, is his thigh pressing against the tuners or is it not?
      Is it conceivable that one could touch the tuners with their thigh when sat in that position?
      I’m not interested in anything anecdotal, just what’s reasonable/possible.

    • @TheLinuxExperience
      @TheLinuxExperience 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Levi Clay I agree, I think the relevant question is whether it is likely to happen under normal circumstances and I think it isn't. In any case, I think it is not that relevant, the truly important thing is that you love your guitar and I love mine. Congratulations on your new piece of gear!

    Did you get this from Guitar Guitar? It looks like the EXACT one they had in stock that I had my eye on! I'm torn between one of these and an Ormsby Goliath, still waiting to test those fanned frets first. I have a Setius and its a magnificent guitar.

    Never understood why the kiesel and strandberg models have this massive cutway in the first place. Some of them look like the cookie monster has been chewing on them. No offence to anyone owning one, I'm just starving for a cookie right now. The hydra cutway is more subtle which I like. Congrats on the new guitar Levi \m/

    Hi Levi, 2 questions. Do you think it would be possible to install a headless style tremolo bridge on that Hydra? And i've read you've sold or traded your Surfreter. Is it for sale somewhere? Great playing and tone btw. Cheers

    • @rumbachumba330
      @rumbachumba330 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Possible? Probably but I don't think it'll be easy at all, the hydra has individual saddles for each string and the tremolo system needs routing for the trem block inside the guitar and the springs in the back, so it isn't a simple swap, but if you are skilled enough or know a capable luthier that you trust to start doing holes in your guitar it is definitely doable.

    Hey was wondering about this one versus a Strandberg one.
    Never get my hand on a strandberg, have to admit they are kind of the boss when it comes to headless,
    like the fact they do headless only, must means something don't you think ?
    That said, i think it's cooler to have a artisanaly made Poland instrument instead of mass hysteria product in Asia ( like Strandberg's )

      Fwiw, I bought a new Strandberg a few months ago. I received my Hydra last week. I'm keeping the Hydra and selling the Strandberg. They're both great, and I'm sure plenty of people will like the Strandberg more, but for me it's the Hydra. I don't think you could go wrong either way.

      @@vincentdelmas2792 If I had a surefire "why" I'd tell you, but I don't. I vibe with the Hydra more. Both are great and I don't think you'd be disappointed either way. If you're contemplating maybe getting one or the other, it may be worth considering that all Strandbergs (at least to my knowledge) are multiscale.
