  • (CC) 3 different charge ports, same problem. The most common reason for phones and other pocket sized rechargeable devices not to charge (Phones, Vapes, Bluetooth earbuds, flashlights and more). This problem will also cause charge cords to fall out unless they are "pushed in". I will explain and clearly demonstrate a method I use for cleaning the 3 most common charge ports (Lightning style ports found on Apple products, Micro USB, and USB Type C found on Androids, and many other newer devices). This is an update to the charge port videos I made years ago that have been used by millions of people. I wanted to make a complete charge port video that was detailed, clearly explained, and that covered almost every device out there (That fits in your pocket).
    0:00 Intro
    0:32 Explanation of the problem.
    0:50 "Lightning" style port clean out procedure.
    2:03 "Micro USB" style port clean out procedure.
    3:36 "USB Type C" style port clean out procedure.
    4:23 Ending, and thank you for watching!
    Pay close attention to ALL the warnings in this video, as damage "will" occur if a person applies "excessive pressure or force" to the small "tab" in the charging port or pins of their device! Do at your own risk! If you have ANY doubts in your ability to perform this procedure, take your device to a qualified person who can safely repair it.
    This problem can potentially affect EVERYONE who carries their phone or device in their pocket, purse, coveralls, work clothes, and more!.
    Symptoms include,
    • your phone or device has "stopped charging",
    • it charges only when you push or wiggle the charge plug in your phone/device,
    • it charges intermittently, or charges VERY slowly,
    • your charge cord does not seem to "lock-in",
    • the charge cord plug keeps falling out of your phone/device.
    (This video "could" apply to ANY DEVICE that uses the "micro-USB style/Lightning/USB Type C" charging port) , Rechargeable flashlights, Vaping pens, pagers, and other small devices can have these problems as well.
    Warning! NEVER force, pry, or twist any object or tool in any way in the charging port of your device! PAY CLOSE ATTENTION to my warnings here and in this video, as damage WILL result if you do not!

    The only problem with your solution is that it left me feeling like an idiot for not thinking of it myself. Seems kind of obvious, but I guess it's not. Worked perfectly on my PIxel 3. Thanks!!!

    I was about to purchase a new USB-port and started stressing out about my phone still not holding the charging cable (I've used rubber bands to clamp the charger in place for the last six months) in place, even with the bands, and then I saw this video. Thank you so much, fine sir! You've saved my 3 year old Huawei P20, which is good as new after using a shaved toothpick.
    You're my hero of 2021!

    There was little easily visible dirt in my micro-USB socket, so I was less than optimistic. But then I patiently dug around for about 10 minutes with the recommended plastic tool, as if in a mine, and to my amazement, new material kept appearing - deposits from years of being in my trouser pocket. Finally, I looked at the plug of the charging cable, and it too turned out to be a culprit.
    I had already decided to stop using the mobile phone - charging had become a pain because it only worked when I used both hands to enable charging. Often I asked myself: Is this long phone call worth the charging agony? Yet this is just my back-up and hiking phone, which I rarely switch on.
    It is always very satisfying to get something working again with a simple intervention. So thank you for this and the older instructions I found before I went mining!

    Thanks for this, very useful. I've just determined that the problem with my phone's USB C port was compacted lint. After turning it off (a very important step), I've just used a very fine sewing needle to work away at the compacted lint and clear it away. The port works fine now.

    Thank you so much, I had a keyboard that just went past it return window and I was worried it would be a loss. I did the plastic tab thing on a USB-c port and I was able to dig something out!

    I stumbled upon your video in search of a DIY option for fixing my Samsung S8 not charging, or providing data access via the USB C port. I looked at my port, under a strong light and could not see any dust!
    It seriously looked "normal".
    But just as you described; it was definitely there. It was just so compressed it looked like it was part of the surface of the inner wall of the port.
    I followed your advice and directions and it worked PERFECTLY for me!
    Thank you for saving me the cost of having that port needlessly replaced!

    This video just avoided me throwing away my phone! Even warp charging again (that stopped happening a while ago). THANK YOU!! Makes so much sense too... engineer in electronics here and like comments below, I feel like an idiot about not thinking of it. That modified toothpick thing is GENIUS! Loosened the lint with some isopropyl alcohol.

    I’ve been trying to fix my rig headset with a micro usb because the charger is loose and it won’t charge and I looked into the charging port but I don’t see any debris and don’t know what to do

    • @mysimplefix
      @mysimplefix  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      If the charging port is a micro USB, and it spends a lot of time in your pocket, it will quite likely have debris in there. I will ask, when you plug the cord into the port, is it going in all the way to the bottom? If not, there likely is debris stuck between that small tab and the inner wall of the charge port. As described in the video, that debris needs to be carefully swept out. Don't bend the tab in the port!

  • @635574
    @635574 5 ปีที่แล้ว +3

    The only prevention to this is having a plug, which can easily be found on aliexpress. Or a magnetic charging cable plug.

    My work pants pockets fill my charging port with debris continuously. I need to clean out my phone's charging port about once every 2 months. The interval will vary depending on what the environment is.

    I just got a new phone it's the first phone I have had with USB c and fast charging and it charges fine when plugged into fast charge brick but when I plug the usb c charger into a regular old school usb plug like in a car or older computer it says its charging but just slowly dies anyone know why? Thanks

    • @mysimplefix
      @mysimplefix  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Old USB ports like in laptops were only good for 500 milliamps. New phones need at least two amps, which is 2,000 milliamps or more. I actually did a video on that a long time ago that you might get something out of. It describes your situation.

    Should just slap a small strip of contact paper over it. Just thought of that.if you get a sheet it'll last you forever. Yeah it would be a pain in the ass to keep changing it out but beats having to deal with a dysfunctional port
