A much easier solution is that when the cable first begins to fray, cover a few inches around and over the break with Shoe Goo or something similarly strong and flexible like that plastic you dip tools handles into, thus preventing any further breakage and sealing the wire.

02:42 I liked the heat shrinking rather than stripping the core conductor insulation, but seeing as I have an appropriate stripper, I would prefer its precision.

Affordability is relative to income and what you want to do with your spare time.
Fixing charging cables is not high on my priority list if $20 gets enough cables to last until my next phone upgrade then that's my path.
But in many countries changing your phone as often as your socks is not possible but neither is having shrink tape, solder and a soldering iron.

  • @alejandroalvarez1544

Interesting. I always try and control the weak link on electronic devices like corded Irons by moving the flexing of power wire away from the ball that swivels in handle. It might make sense to put shrink tubing over new cords to reduce the weak link.

It may have taken a few minutes but not seconds as advertised! Purchasing the length of heat shrink originally isn’t cheap, neither is the hot glue or the gun! It’s only helpful if one has these items laying about somewhere, otherwise it’s quicker & cheaper in the long run to buy a complete replacement chord as fumbling about trying to repair the original!

One major mistake, this video does not talk about ensuring that the same color of wire is soldered again on the desoldered point. If the color scheme of the wires are not maintained as of original, then due to polarity reversal your phone of thousands of Rs gets damaged due to reverse polarity of DC voltage.

The major issue is the plastic used in the jacket of the cable. Body oils and flexing will lead to that outer jacket failing. The shield to the cable must also be reconnected to the ground lead but be observant as to which end it is connected to, the phone side or the USB side.

    @alanlevin167 ปีที่แล้ว +3

This can be done but, depending upon the price of a replacement, it iis probably not worth it. I would probably estimate thatit will take about $15 of my time to do thisand I have the tools and supplies. if you want todo this, some suggestions: 1. I never hold my fingers as as close to a hot soldering tip as this may does---be careful! 2. I generally use desoldering braid to removesolder from a connection. 3. I do not use a knife to strip insulation off of a wire or cable--it is much too easy to cut through the insulation of one of the inner wires. There are wire strippers that do this easily, and efficiently. Anyway, feel free to try your luck, my time is better spent elsewhere.

Four core cables are important that come with the phone. The cheap ones are two core and they don't give feed back to phone or to charger because no data lines. So it won't quick charge your phone. That's the reason this guy insists on preserving and reuse original cable. Thanks buddy, I have been doing this also. very informative video. Guys you can do things with right tools and give better precision but the importance is of idea and how to do. PS. Please note that on both sides internal wires orientation is reversed. first goes last and last goes to first and data cables are reverse too.

You could buy a new cable for little money but you should buy the brand that came with your phone. The wiring between brands isn't universal. I shrink wrap my cables when they are still new which prevents all of this. I use a shrink tube that is 3:1 shrink ratio and comes in white. It has adhesive inside it which activates when heated so you don't need extra glue. The shrink tube piece also dries hard so you have extra protection from the cable wiggling around. It cost me about $2 a foot US and will do several cables when you only use about an inch at a time. I buy the diameter that will fit over the USB connector and the 3:1 ratio shrinks small enough for the phone plug side. A lot easier than what you see here.

Didn't do a continuity check on the wires before soldering, could be a break somewhere else!

For the cost of a new cable it’s never worth faffing about repairing a damaged cable, nonetheless well done to the person that repaired it.

You should learn to use more rosin for high-quality soldering. The tip of the iron is very oxidized and leads to poor-quality soldering.

Fix in seconds? I have to enrol to learn how to soldier metals, have the right equipment and then, proceed. How many seconds will this take?

I'll just spent the 4 bucks for a new one at the local dollar store. Time and money well spent, instead of the amount of time and tools it would take to complete this " repair" job

I dont know what apple made their cables from, but the way the outer covering crisped up and disintegrated means fixing it was pointless. Every time i took remedial action, another bit crumbled.

This activity carries significant risk for those without the requisite skill level. Improper execution could result in serious injury, such as cuts or punctures to the hand.

I strongly suggest replacement. Repairing a bad cable could very well create more problems than its worth.
This is coming from someone with well over 40 years experience in electronics. Dont risk screwing up your phone to save a few bucks
