actually there are two rubber inserts under the battery. On the video you can see these have both been removed. They go in the small rectangle holes. You must remove these first to release the keyboard slider and replace them after completion to lock the keyboard in place. easy job with a pin etc.

Yes. Backlit and non-backlit keyboards for the same ThinkPad model are physically interchangeable. AFAIK all ThinkPads that support backlighting have the electrical wiring installed regardless of the type of keyboard shipped. Note that Lenovo gets these keyboards from at least two manufacturers, Chicony and LiteOn. If you like the feel of your current keyboard use the FRU number to determine who made it and order a backlit version from them.

For t440p, u actually have to remove the backcover first before u can start on removing the keyboard After removing the battery, with the battery compartment on the top, there are 2 screws on the top corners, remove them. then slide the backcover towards you before lifting it up.

I have the keys...they just won't go back on. Our keyboards are under warranty for a one-time repair. If the same laptop has a keyboard key come off, there is no warranty. I just want to put ONE key back on but it's proving to be a losing battle.
As I stated before --- the keyboards are warrantied ONE time. If the replacement keyboard loses a key, our business is responsible for the replacement keyboard cost (it's a school district).

Actually, it does when you order it from us. It's a plastic pry tool on one end and a screwdriver that fits the screws on the other though, not the tool shown in the video. The tool shown in the video is called a "spudger" and can be ordered online.

Another thing is that most old Thinkpad Models has the keyboard assembly attached to the upper case. In addition to that, the screw location of the T440 (Back Cover) might not match to the screw location of the old Thinkpad Keyboard upper case. Let us know if you have further questions. Some say that T440 thinkpad is a degradation of previous Thinkpad... the touchpad is so annoying n chiclet keyboard is not so convenient like 7 rows of T420 n not upgradeable CPU ..

No you don't. I was able to remove my keyboard without removing my T440p backcover.

Stupid tutorial. As someone who already said in the comments "there are two rubber inserts under the battery which need to be removed first" and only then the keyboard will slide like in the video.... *facepalm*
