    One of your best videos. Very insightful and honest. I nave an NC with the PRHT and noise is my biggest gripe. Mazda kept sound dampening out to save weight. They figured that sports car enthusiasts didn't care about quietness, wrong!

      Thank you for the encouraging feedback!
      Agreed. That said though, I'm not too impressed with most factory sound deadening on Japanese cars. (I do bodywork and paint for a living).
      Would still prefer properly applying the aftermarket stuff myself and end up with better results.
      Ive only done vibration damping in the trunk. Next, I'm going to add some closed cell foam on top of it and on the back of the plastic trim. Will see what difference that makes. 😊

    i did the trunk on my NC with Damplifier Pro and Luxury Liner on top of that. Both are from Second Skin Audio. Sound in the cabin went down by 4 db, quite a noticeable difference. I will probably take the seats out next and do the area behind the seats and the floor.

    • @TachOnRed
      @TachOnRed  ปีที่แล้ว

      Ooo I should give that a try.
      Damplifier pro has a closedcell foam layer too. And you added the luxury liner which is more closed cell foam.
      Were you still able to easily fit the carpet and plastic trim back? The deadening wasn't too thick?

    • @anthony221956
      @anthony221956 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@TachOnRed Yes, the carpet and trim went back in with no problem.

    With a soft top, I found re-blacking the top made the greatest difference for noise. I installed soundproofing in the boot it made a difference but not as the top.

    • @TachOnRed
      @TachOnRed  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Wow. So the top DOES let in a lot of noise - that's good to know.
      When you say re-blacking, you mean like you dyed the existing soft top? Or did you replace it?

    I have a folded to fit harbor freight moving blanket the trunk, it's surprisingly decent compared to the cost and effort.

    The HH is removing the noise from the rear where the deadening is. I have the HH on the mid pipe which removes the sound from the front of the car.
    I’d love to modify the roof, that’s where a lot of the reverberations come from 😢

    I'll be keenly interested if in the future you do more sound deadening, and what results you get. If it made a huge difference, it would become a winter project. I have a friend who just put his Porsche Boxster up for sale, complaining that out of the 19 Porsches he has owned, this last one was unacceptably loud, so It's not just Miata. (he also had to settle for an automatic). But you're right, Mazda should have put enough sound deadener so that at least one could talk on a cell phone at highway speeds!

    • @TachOnRed
      @TachOnRed  8 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I did try adding some 1-inch thick foam to the back sides of the trunk plastic trim. That made a very noticeable difference.
      Still have wind noise and tire noise coming from the top and and the front. But noise from the rear has significantly gone down. 😊 If you haven't done anything to the trunk yet, Id recommend both the butyl sound deadening and foam as they deal with noise in different ways. 😊👍

    • @steves8014
      @steves8014 8 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Interesting. I was going to install coilovers, but that's an expensive upgrade, and ironically that drops rthe car closer to the road and tire noise. The noise issue is holding this back. In your car can you carry on a conversation on your phone now and actually hear? @@TachOnRed

    • @TachOnRed
      @TachOnRed  8 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I haven't tried at highway speeds but at up to 70ish kmph, phone conversations aren't a problem.
      I have an aftermarket stereo which plays phone audio through the speakers. So, that helps too I suppose. 🤔

    Have to do the same procedure to my soft top compartment. I get a bit of buzzing between 2.5k and 3.5k RPM.
    Where'd you get the acrylic Wind deflector? My stock one broke at the hinge and I'd love to have the same one that you're using ❤

    • @TachOnRed
      @TachOnRed  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It's by a local company here in Japan called Opencafe Garage. They don't seem to be selling them anymore as they've only got products for the ND now.
      I wouldn't say it makes any difference to how well it deflects wind.
      Reason I got it was just because I wanted better visibility to the rear. I always had the factory one folded down. But this one is clear, so I can see more of what's behind me even when it's up.
      Also, it's very lightly tinted. So, I don't get blinded by headlights of cars following behind.

    I chose the PHRT NC because it's more secure & doesn't wear out like a soft top ( having previously owned an MGF )..... As far as cabin noise goes I've never had any issues with that coz I love BLASTING the FOCAL stereo upgrade I put in....... as the BOSE system was pretty shitty.......LOL !

      Sure did & for 2K ( with a reverse camera ) & digital amplifier it's frikkin' AWESOME & on long road trips of 6 hours or more I can BLAST it with no listener fatigue..... so yeah...cabin noise doesn't bother me at ALL...even with the roof down around town..... LOL !@K@@TachOnRed

      One additional thing I recommend is putting thick foam insulation on the back side of the plastic trim panels. (something like this: amzn.to/3W8qRw5).

      I did that just a couple months ago and that definitely made a noticeable difference to road noise coming in from the trunk. :)

    have you ever tried to replace the rear speakers? For me, it's impossible to remove the rear panel since its stuck on the handle that releases the top and i cant find any info on how to remove that.

    • @TachOnRed
      @TachOnRed  ปีที่แล้ว

      I don't have that problem as I have a PRHT. It has a blank where you'd normally have the roof release handle.
      But there's another TH-cam creator who's made a video about that: th-cam.com/video/f1EBEgmouso/w-d-xo.html

    Thanks for the video. I was considering doing the same thing to my NC but it seems like it’s not really worth it.
    It’s a shame because it’s such a great car otherwise but it’s so absurdly noisy with the top up it pretty much makes it an awful road trip car. Even my NA was quieter than this.

      You're right. It's probably my only major complaint with the car.
      But I haven't given up yet! We'll see if I can get it quieter with some additional sound deadening. 😆
