    We had a Terra as a family / work van with the Diesel, manual 5 speed and a trailer hook. It was surprisingly durable, drove it all around Europe for 250k something km, occasionally pulling a horse trailer. Top speed I ever reached was 150km/h downhill Autobahn (no trailer) :-D It never died, it was sold on for 500 EUR, because it got replaced by a Seat Inca. I'm a fan. The camper van conversion is awesome!

      Pulling a horse trailer seems somewhat insane through modern eyes. However, if you're going to tow anything, I supposed that's the most suitable. Every time you need to get up a hill, the horse could get out and pull :)

    We had a Seat Terra on our fleet of hire vans in the 1980's. It was new and when it had the first service we were advised to check the torque on the head studs. One of the lads merrily went off to do the job, only to return a few minutes later with a nut and sheared piece of stud!
    Apart from that hiccup, it was a really good little van, and popular with the renters.

    • @michaeltutty1540
      @michaeltutty1540 ปีที่แล้ว

      On any 4 cylinder it is a good idea to retorque the head bolts at 1,500 kilometers, or a thousand miles. Volvo used to include the first service on the old 240 included in the price of the car, and that was part of it, along with all fluids being flushed and a raft of other checks and services. It was 4 hours of labour.

    Back in the early 90s, one of junior managers where I started work owned a Seat Ibiza (not a VW). Must be incredibly rare now. Think it had a 1.2 petrol engine.
    It’s always the Skoda>VW story everyone makes an episode about….

  • @Super5gon
    @Super5gon ปีที่แล้ว

    Maybe I'm wrong but I would say you said "the Marbella was replaced by the Ibiza in 1998"
    As you may know the Ibiza was launched in 1984, and belonged to a bigger range than the Panda/Marbella.
    Marbellas were replaced by the Arosa in 1998.

  • @danielmartin5971

    Actually, the Marbella's successor in 1998 was the AROSA (4 pax and similar to VW's Lupo). 😉
    However, the IBIZA was born in 1984 and corresponds to a higher segment model.

    Danbury were always only a small volume producer of camper conversions, doubt if that many of those done anyway, mostly known for the Talbot 1.5 tonne van conversion. An interior mirror only normally used to check one's hair or make up in or to keep an eye on the kids, the door mirrors are to see what's behind. Ideal for one and the squeeze attending a festival for the weekend.

      It’s one of the three I’m aware of. I also know of a red one. Video was slightly misleading, I only have this one as a Danbury camper conversion, my other Terra is a van converted for wheelchair use, which I use as a parts hauler.
      I believe the one on Gateway auctions didn’t do very well because the mot ran out during it’s listing, and the mot history noted that the underside was heavily covered in underseal suggesting, maybe unfairly, that it was hiding something.
