The Dart Swinger was for sale in Weatherford, OK for $18,950 in April. It was driven just over 1000 miles after the engine swap. The 340 V8 is from 1972, and the car has an 8 3/4 rear with an Eaton Tru-Trac. It was originally a slant-6 car.
About that roof... Modern car repair and manufacturing techniques mean a dented roof is something you remove and install a perfect replacement. This does not have to apply to cars designed and built in the 1970's. "Modern repair techniques" also assume that replacement parts are available. A good metal worker like Santa's Workshop can straighten that roof without a problem. The quarter panel is more difficult.
That was my wife and I standing in the front like I said I wanted to say hi so bad but realized you were making a vid so left you to it but it was really cool actually seeing ya there and you even caught us for sec in the video really cool guy I need to get back to making videos I’m no where close to you on production hey have a great day guy
Love old school cars Randy I’m 27 years old still loving old school cars especially the cars that existed before I was born!! Love what you do men keep it going I’ve been watching you for a while and look forward to watching you much longer 💯
I'm 46 and have a love for antique , classic muscle cars and trucks,. But growing up around my grandfather , father and uncle mechanics/gearheads. my grand father owned/ran a full service pennzeoil gas /service station . I pretty much learned enough by observeing/watching them work on vehicles in the service stalls of that service station as a child , let's just say I know enough to be dangerous about doing vehicle mechanic work. sadly with a messed up spine and back and in a wheelchair I can no longer do mechanic work including basic maintenence to my vehicles.
My grannie, of all people, bought a Swinger brand new in '72 and she drove, well, like a grannie. My father once drove it on the highway and floored it and the smoke behind was a show in itself. That car was a bomb!
Love that Swinger. I remember when I was a kid that my Dad had one with the slant 6 engine. It was red with a black vinyl top and I believe the same black interior as the one in your video. Love to see you snatch up that one to give it a new lease on life.
The Dart would be a great car to own. I drove many back in the day with a variety of engines. Loved hearing the Chrysler starter/cranking...good memories
The Swinger is a "Beak nose" era, '73-'76. 340's were done by '72, & they were cast crank. If a 340, it's a resto mod- could be a steel crank ('68-'71) or cast ('72). The sticker is a re-pop, The AC is factory. The floor mat is a vintage aftermarket piece. The 5th digit in the VIN is probably a G, 318. Rear end, if 8.75, also a retro-fit. Doesn't guarantee a "Sure-Grip." Largest factory rear? 8.25", could be Sure-Grip, it was optional. I know these cars...
@harleydude-xo8pu Dart Sport officially was possible, but a Swinger was 318 as a top option. Were there factory oddball, like Rick Ehrenburg ordering a 273 Commando, 4-speed Valiant sedan? Yes, but he worked at Chrysler. VIN is the key, my money says it's a "G" and it's most likely a dressed up 318. Look at the exhaust manifolds...lo-po, non-up swept lumps If it has the right VIN character for a 340, it's very valuable. Not holding my breath,
@@olikat8 You could purchase a 1973 Dart Swinger with the optional performance package that came with a floor mounted 4 speed, 340 motor, rally suspension, bumble bee stripe. The 318 was a standard motor with the Swinger. The Dart Sport also could be ordered with the 340 as well.
@@harleydude-xo8pu No, you could not get a '73 Dart Swinger with a 340, absolutely not. They made some 340 Swingers in 1971 for CANADA, but not the US. After 1970, the 340 was done in the Swinger. Only avail in 108" wheelbase a-bodies (in addition to B- and E-bodies) after '70 in the US, not in 111" wheelbase cars.
@@72dodge340 YES YOU COULD HAVE. Look it up, it fell under the performance package that was available for the 1973 Dart Swinger model, I guess you will tell me you couldn't get the Hurst floor mounted 4 speed with the performance package or the special paint or the bumble bee stripe or the rallye suspension either. I guess you will tell me that the 318 was an option motor as well and not the standard available motor. Everyone thinks they are the true experts until Joe blow shows up and contradicts them with facts. Maybe you forgot that you are an expert on the YUGO instead.
The interlock was something to do with the seat belt, but it was probably bypassed. And that is factory a/c, and when it works it's an excellent unit- much better than modern a/c.
True. R12 systems could literally blow too cold, remember this from being in the middle of the desert over 110 out Ca. Today they just use more powerful blower motors but their "cold" setttings are a joke out here
This Dodge Dart reminds me of the movie "Duel" with Dennis Weaver. Same era of Americana automobile, but its' sister to the Dart, the Valiant was used. Definitely worth bringing to the channel.
My dad worked spent his career at the old Dodge Main factory in Hamtramck MI. Always bought Chryslers. As a kid I thought the GM keys were upside down, just depends on your perspective 😊
Plenty of people still love the classic cars. The 72 and older darts are more desirable than the '74. Car looks very save able and if you put another vinyl roof on it, it'll hide some of the imperfections of the repair. Car would make a great parts car if nothing else...definitely should be saved!
Yes take 5 is a great place to go prices are a little bit on the highway side but they change your Lil check ur tire pressures and all ur fluid and air filter as well and they usually do a great job only thing I can say is read reviews on the take 5 before you go cause some shops are good and some are bad . My uncle who passed away 2 years ago . had a 1970 Dart Swinger its the body style prior to this 1974 dart. It got an engine swap from the leaning tower of power 225 slant six to a 400 v8 that was souped up a bit. which worked fine until he accidently granaded the automatic transmission a couple of times it was the original transmission from the factory mated t the slant 6. it was rebuilt those times as in the transmision . h e ended up putting a heavier duty transmission from a truck or van and it had a shift kit and other things done to the transmission . everything was good until it wasnt. the factory rear differential blew apart put another rear end in it and the same thing happened. so he got a truck/van rear end in it that had to be shortened width wise.to fit the car. after that it was pretty much bullet proof and ran absolutely good tons of power it was naturally aspirated too . the 400 cui was completely rebuilt and moded from the block up. Here's the kicker about the car. there was some sibiling rivalery happening between my uncle and his brother whos my father. my dad built a 1970 chevy Nova SS. which had a small block 400 V8 power plant . they always tried to out do each other . you get the gest of it lol.
Never had any issues with take 5, I recommend bringing your own oil filter they use some cheap looking one, they are expensive though so I’m doing my own oil now
Randy I LOVE that Dodge Dart. Love the 60's and 70's cars and I have always take my car to the dealer to have her oil change etc for better trade in value but since my car is 11 years old and the prices are so high now since covid for a oil change ($89.99 for a regular oil change) I used Valvoline for the first time 2 weeks ago and cost me less than $28.00 with 9.75% tax with a 50% off coupon which can be found online. They show you the oil stick after they refilled your oil to show you your car is full. They did a good job. They did get some oil drips on the engine cover but I just wipe it and it made my cover look great lol. It did take about 18 minutes because someone was in front of me. I would use them again.
I hate to say it but I’ve been doing the same with my Lincoln ! 🤣 Except I always get the full synthetic which still comes out to around 100$ after a coupon.. But I also found out the previous owner was doing the same when they called me by his name, and thought I was him.
Great walk around with some interesting cars. IM on that Corolla means hatchback and I agree they are nice looking cars. The room in that Alfa definitely does look tight. The older ones have more room. Hard to say if the miles on that Dart are original. I would say 50/50 may or may not be but it's gorgeous and runs amazing. Would totally drive that especially with the 340 under the hood. Love the videos Randy.👍
Good morning Randy. Found the 2022 Hyundai Venue. Found the 2008 Chevrolet HHR Panel Van. It's great that the cars still at Copart. The 2017 Toyota Corrola is a good looking car even though it's got hail damage.
Ah yes compare! I’m sure you see some of your cars at times in compare of IAA! Keep it up randy we love the grind, and happy holidays to everyone! Love the old-school type of video where you go deeply into the damage!
1970 last year of the left-hand threads. Roof can be fixed, ditto the 1/4 (as you know) very sad... cool car! You know if you can't do bodywork yourself then very costly to contract it out. People of all ages LOVE classic cars! I am in my early 50's but even younger guys I know that are 20 even teens love them, what turns them away is the high price otherwise they would have one! I worked as a Tech at a Toyota dealer and when I brought my old 1967 Chrysler Newport Custom 2 door (Custom was top trim model for the Newport it is black/black buckets, console, magnum 500 wheels 383 high performance ran 12.98 in the 1/4 mile with 3.23 gearing only thing done to the engine is a direct connection/mopar purple cam and mild porting in the heads). I drove it to work everyone loved it, the young guy's even young women loved it. Then my 1968 Charger R/T the guys went crazy! Hell, even my 1977 Cordoba I owned at the time (7 years ago) they 17 year old part time car washer loved it and looked for one and I went with him and for $3800 he bought a pretty decent Cordoba, I went through it to get it reliable(it was parked for 18 years) he drove it to school/work and trade school for years. So, young guys like old cars, even ones that work at a Toyota dealer and drive Toyota's and Honda's. Maybe the people that watch your channel are not into classics because you mainly focus and buy cars from the 90's to 2010's usually. So, the viewers of your channel are into late 90's to today's cars, shame though old cars are ultra cool!! I like cars of all years, and appreciate them for what they are and time period..Probably in 50 years people will only like self driving pods and wont fathom the idea of how we actually had to drive a car and not play a video game and watch cat videos as we had to dreadfully drive (I feel bad for future people, they missed out).
1973 was the last year of the 340. In 1974 they were 360 engines. Also, a 1973 340 was nothing compared to the 1968-1970 engines. Unlikely the engine came in that car. An air cleaner doesn't make it so! The V.I.N. will tell you exactly what engine is in it.
I’ve seen the two rear doors from an HHR Panel sell recently for 1100$ at a wrecking yard and one had a little rust on it so that’s why yours brought the big money.
There is a Take 5 a block away from my place in Colorado and they are always busy. They get you in and out in a few minutes and you don't even have to leave your car. They have good reviews.
That swinger is all original... That button on the inner apron is a bypass for I think is a seatbelt lockout. It won't do something if the seatbelts aren't latched
You have to remove the headliner and heat up the The roof with a torch Get really hot and push up on it there Is certain amount memory metal try and push up the the roof I have seen done before
Randy that bypass switches for the seat belt in those 1973 and four cars you could not run em with the seatbelt not being attached so that would bypass it? I think being mine was a 71 it didn't care if you were wearing your seat belt.
I bet that is an all original Swinger 340, probably stored it's whole life before the accident. Worth putting a roof and quarter on. That little car would be fun with that V8 compared to my old 74 Scamp with the Slant 6. Awesome find Randy.. You would want to put out on the quarter and as you do the hump on the top side would lower itself with a little body hammering, For now you could remove the rear seat and place a 4x4 piece of wood across there and set a porta power ram or hydraulic ram on it and place another cut down 4x4 on top and slowly use the ram to push the roof back up close to level.
defenatly worth fixing that dart.. ive fixed a few truck cabs full of rust i would pull the roof up with my tractor and and see how straight i could get it.. that quarter panel is the hard part
I did the odd oil change on my Nissan at take 5 and no problem here in Dallas. I would only take it there if the dealership was busy, and I was in a rush.
With Take 5 I thought it was pretty darn expensive. More expensive than Valvoline or Jiffy Lube. I always get my oil changed at Walmart, its under $60 for a full synthetic change on my SRX. Its like $25 fo regular oil. Not as fast as the quick change joints, but probably faster than the dealership. My local Walmart at least has older guys who are experienced techs, Take 5 and these other places usually hire kids with no experience.
I use to get my oil changed at Walmart until that time they started it up without an oil filter on and oil went everywhere. They didn't even tell me, they tried to clean it and keep it secret. They then said they couldn't change the oil because the drain plug was too tight. Never going to Walmart again for an oil change.
@mbatchelor I have always take my car to the dealer to have her oil change etc but the prices are so high now since covid for a oil change ($89.99 for a regular oil change) I used Valvoline for the first time 2 weeks ago and cost me less than $28.00 with 9.75% tax with a 50% off coupon which can be found online. I would use them again.
I would put a piece of 3/4" plywood under that roof after removing the back seat and use a jack to push it back up into the original position. After some tweaking, I think that you could get a good PDR guy to fix the rest on that Dodge Dart Swinger.
I use take 5 all the time I'm in Virginia and I drive 35 minutes from my house to go there great and if you get your oil changed with them you can bring your car at anytime and they will check your oil and make sure your air in your tires are good and I just took mine to get my cabin air filter changed and they didn't charge me to do it
That Dart Swinger 340 is a cool find. Too bad about the roof but it is repairable. I had a 72 Duster 340 years ago. It was fast. But the rear of the car was so light it would fishtail.
Wouldn't need to replace the whole roof, could replace the skin and the rear braces... being a vinyl top car makes it even easier as far as the finish. Quarter would be an easy fix too. I have a 72 swinger with a /6, cool little cars.
Nice to see your cars there. Hope the Hyundai gets more money. It’s a nice SUV.The Alfa really the interior. Man Randy the dodge needs to be saved. Love it!
I would straighten the roof on the Dart... It is possible, but will be time consuming to fix that quarter panel... I would grab it if the price is reasonable...
I get my oil changed at WalMart. You pick oil and filter brand. Go shopping and in half hour your vehicle is ready. Never had a problem and they don't try to upsell you. The Dart has minimal collector value but it is a high dollar for a Dart due to engine and options. The roof can be repaired without replacing it. The quarter no. The interlock bypass is to start the car from under the hood. Remember in 74 they had the seatbelt interlock with ignition. Wouldn't start unless seatbelt was fastened. All you had to do was unplug it under seat or buckle seat belt behind you.
That Dart is cool, I suspect that a decent body man could easily fix it ….my second car was a 69 Dart with the slant six …Randy I think that would be a great project
I had a Plymouth Scamp that was a 74 and it was a slant six engine. The 340 V8 was only available until the end of the 1973 model run. The 74 models had a 360 4bbl V8 as an option. Sad to say, the emissions sticker stating it is a 340 V8 is probably a reproduction. 1974 had a one year only seat belt interlock. Unless the seat belts were in use, the car would not start.
Please save the Dart. I have a feeling that Santa would love to get his hands on it. He's such a perfectionist that it would be absolutely perfect once he got done with it.
Fun Obscure Fact about the Guilia. A lot of the body parts were built with Hemp Fiber so, you are literally sitting in a "Weed Car" That Dart has your name written all over it......Just stroke them a check already LOL!!!!!!

Never knew that, thought I knew my cars pretty well!
Definitely get that dart randy! That car is a beauty and I know you could find a way to fix it up! Maybe santa 🎅 could help!
We like the old cars.
I love that dart swinger!
Take 5 is hit or miss depending on where you go. The take 5 I went to in TX did a great job, and they do fleet accounts for dealerships.
I’ve seen the two rear doors from an HHR Panel sell recently for 1100$ at a wrecking yard and one had a little rust on it so that’s why yours brought the big money.
Brings back memories in the 80s my mom had one 😊
There is a Take 5 a block away from my place in Colorado and they are always busy. They get you in and out in a few minutes and you don't even have to leave your car. They have good reviews.
I do not recommend taking your cars to take 5 randy they suck
That swinger is all original... That button on the inner apron is a bypass for I think is a seatbelt lockout. It won't do something if the seatbelts aren't latched
You have to remove the headliner and heat up the
The roof with a torch
Get really hot and push up on it there
Is certain amount memory metal try and push up the the roof I have seen done before
My first car was a 1974 Plymouth valiant….loved that car…
In 1974 a 340 wasn't available. The 360 was but I don't think the Dart Swinger had it available. The Dart Sport had an option for a 360.
Randy buys that Dodge Dart and puts it together with Santa's workshop and makes videos ..
The alfa romeos engine sounds like my Dodge Dart's 2.4L. Both have multiair engines, that's what they sound like.
I like these follow ups on how much they went for
One could use a floor jack and plywood/2x4s inside the cabin to lift and reshape the roof i have seen it done!!
Hello Randy you think you should get the dart but you think it could be fixed
I use take 5 all the time I'm in Virginia and I drive 35 minutes from my house to go there great and if you get your oil changed with them you can bring your car at anytime and they will check your oil and make sure your air in your tires are good and I just took mine to get my cabin air filter changed and they didn't charge me to do it
That Dart Swinger 340 is a cool find. Too bad about the roof but it is repairable. I had a 72 Duster 340 years ago. It was fast. But the rear of the car was so light it would fishtail.
Randy, That top damage will push out and can be tapped into place. Quarter is not a big deal. Buy that car. Mopar or no car.
Love that dart!
The vinyl top is appropriate for that car plus it will help hide the bodywork done
Randy you got a little 💎 gem . .. get. V.tune to handle it. You would be very mildly surprised.
100 percent vtune will take care of that car
Get it
Wouldn't need to replace the whole roof, could replace the skin and the rear braces... being a vinyl top car makes it even easier as far as the finish. Quarter would be an easy fix too. I have a 72 swinger with a /6, cool little cars.
Nice to see your cars there. Hope the Hyundai gets more money. It’s a nice SUV.The Alfa really the interior. Man Randy the dodge needs to be saved. Love it!
You should buy that old dart and just pop out the roof dent and get a new left rear quarter panel. I would love to see that thing on the channel.
Yes sir, left thread up to about 1971. Engineer thought it would keep the lugs from spinning off the car.
I would love to see that old dodge on your channel Randy
3/4 ton Suburbans with big blocks are super rare here in Canada, bet you never see one of those at an auction
The Dart is wonderful! I loved it!
LMFAO that Beavis and Butt-head,was one of my favorite show when I was younger, I'm 38 years old so that brings back memories ❤❤❤❤
Hello There Randy Lee Shear Of Auto Action Rebuilds
You're Welcome So Very Much There My Good Little Bro Randy Lee Shear Of Auto Action Rebuilds
Thank You So Very Much There To Everyone Else
Take 5 is decent for getting your oil changed. I go to the one on sooner road in Midwest city.
Jared of "The Questionable Garage" is redoing a "B" body Mopar, so you might be able to glean some info for the Dart from him. Please save that Dart!
Bring the Swinger to the channel and do the full metalwork. Collab with friends.
You should buy the swinger! A very cool car to fix up.
Yeah, go for Swinger!
That Dart is cool, I suspect that a decent body man could easily fix it ….my second car was a 69 Dart with the slant six …Randy I think that would be a great project
Take 5 just be careful the over tight the drain plug. The when you try to get it out you strip the threads. Buy the swinger Randy.
Definitely GET THAT DART !!!
That Dart is cool. I had a 1970 with the slant six
12:39 The Alfa Romeo is going for $600 right now I would love to see a video of it
My Plymouth Fury had the turn signals on the fenders like that.
It was 68° in West Virginia on this day as well almost 70
I remember the Scamp you had a couple of years ago. I would get the Swinger.
