I'm all for assigned seating. It eliminates the stress of trying to board as fast as you can to find your preferred spot. Hoping they keep the bags free. Thanks for explaining the changes coming!
I do hope that people still bored really fast lol I’m not getting paid for that part so if we could keep the speed aspect that would make me really happy boarding is one of the most painful parts for flight attendants. 🤣🤣
This is the 1st time I have seen your vlog. You are so fun to watch! Thanks for sharing your cool life with all of us. Keep having fun! 🙂 Marna from Redmond, Washington
I think in the end it will be OK. Change is not always easy, but I hope it eliminates some of our current issues. We’re not the same airlines we were 50 years ago more families less business travelers especially since Covid. ❤️💙💛
I've never flown your airline because of the no seat assignment thing. It always seemed weird to me. I worked for 2 airlines previously and our flight attendants were pretty much obsessed with getting the seat assignment list from the gate. Those new seats you showed look cheaper like what Spirit has🫤
Honestly, the new seats don’t look much different than our current seats which I have flown spirit are nicer than spirits. I love on the new seats that there’s an area for your phone or your tablet to go as well as the table. I always told people are seating was so easy it was complicated.
And again, I have no idea what the charge will be. I hear that breeze airlines just assigned the front seats and then the back ones are open seating maybe we’ll do a hybrid system. I have no idea.
I’ll be a new customer because of assigned seating. I don’t mind paying extra. I prefer to know where I and my family will be seated. Can immediately get seated and settled in.
It will be interesting to see if we can maintain our fast boarding pace. Maybe it will be like a hybrid. All of our customers are kind of used to getting on and sitting down. It will be an interesting learning curve and welcome to Southwest.❤️💛💙
I’m happy about the change I just started flying southwest less than two years ago. I got the credit card companion pass promo. My card charges the annual fee in February and I was going to cancel it because I hate the boarding process it gives me anxiety . Now I might keep it but depends on what benefits they’ll offer. Early bird or upgraded boarding will no longer apply with assigned seats. I’m happy for families too I didn’t realize it was only 6 and under for family boarding until the other day I couldn’t imagine the stress of maybe not sitting with my kid who might be 7 for example.
I’m really curious in September what they’re going to announce for our companion pass people are a Lister. And I always tell my friends who have kids in that nine and under realm to family board anyways.
@@FlyGal737 that’s true I wonder how both of those programs will be affected. My companion pass expired the end of February 24’. I’ve seen on twitter or X whatever you want to call it people wondering about the person of size policy.
At 10:22 the new Hilton Hiatus is in the background--we were there July 12-19, and we were on the part of the beach you were at. It's a great place to hang out, we didn't even rent a car :-)
I haven't flown since before the pandemic, but when I was, I adored your airline's open seating. I always paid the $25/leg Early Bird to guarantee A Group, and almost always managed to score an exit row seat. At the very least, a standard aisle. If I don't have to pay more for an assigned seat than I was paying for Early Bird, I'll be fine with it. I would like to see a restriction on carry-on baggage, especially when everyone can check 2 for free. If that gets eliminated, I'll be very upset. I'm infamous for bringing nothing but a big purse onboard, because I'm terrified of the TSA confiscating my stuff 🙈
Well said 💙❤️💛 sis! Congratulations on 2k! It’s bittersweet! But if we want to grow our international destinations like crossing the pond, assigned seating is needed!
Also, if we could have a manifest, that would be nice. personally I’ve had a passenger be bad and then when the cops meet the flight, no one can force that person to give us their ID so we don’t know who they are so we can’t make notes in their reservations, so a lot of flight attendants have wanted this change for a safety aspect as well.
Hi Liz! Thoughts on the change from me are there’s a lot of pros and cons but overall change can be good too. I just hope they keep the free bags. We fly your airline to MDW on the 14th so I’m pretty excited! Glad ti see you come out and talk about this big change and see your fun little vlog. Hope to see u in the skies!
More likely I will still fly SW because it is the most friendly airline. I have two young boys and to just eliminate the stress, I purchased the A group boarding passes. I know this is not always an option for other families, but it helped give a peace of mind so we could sit together
I’ve got mixed feelings on the change. I’ve always liked picking a window in the back (typically fine when you’re a B) without having to pay extra. But I know it can add stress for families - looking forward to see how it goes ❤ I can certainly see where it will eliminate some confusion for folks - especially first timers. Fingers crossed that checked baggage remains free- that keeps a lot of extra baggage out of the cabin (and less for people to try to take in an evac 🫣).
I typically get the premium seats when I fly on United so it will be interesting to see how this works for us. So in the next blog, I actually do the rock ‘n’ roll Hall of Fame and there’s a science museum so I hope there’s some things you can find to do
I walk with a rollator with spinal cord issues that affects my balance. I flew Southwest last year and honestly felt judged by the other passengers as I pre boarded the plane as I was then also getting a potential better seat than those who paid to board first otherwise. I've since flown other airlines with assigned seating and that is without issue. With that said, I like this change!
I think sometimes yes, the pre-borders might get stared at awkwardly, but if you need the pre-board then you need the pre-board. It’s the people who just jump up and basically walk off the plane like they were healed. That drives us all nuts.
@@FlyGal737 Fully understood! I always felt like I was getting confused for a Jetway Jesus. I would also not sit in the bulkhead and try to go a few rows back and then also wait till everyone deplaned to get off. Enjoy your videos!
Gate agent for a “PATRIOTIC” airline here lol jetway Jesus is going to stay! We had 7 wheelchairs coming off my flight i worked today only 2 actually needed them
Agree jetway Jesus will still happen. I think the key point is that they won’t take up some of the premium seats because they’re gonna have to pay to choose premium seats in the front if that makes sense.
@@FlyGal737 I love our P2 spot which I think is your fave spot as well. I get the galley ready, sit at the back and stay away from the front 😂 but we don’t get assigned.. the crew decides together before our briefing begins.. sometimes that’s great sometimes I have to do the front.. always fun 🤩
Kudos to you for having a green thumb.... Its funny you are vlogging about the open seat policy because I was about to send you the article when it came to my phone. I am all for paying for seats to keep FAs from playing referee with seats and passengers getting mad when boarding. gotta love the chocolate on the chin 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤦🏻♂️🤷🏻♂️
I agree jetway jesus ive seen it i like the assign seats at least my husband and i can sit together and not have to hit a button 24 hours ahead i dont pay for earlybird thanks for great explanation
I think my main concern with the change is that SW will use this as a way to get rid of the COS policy. I fly exclusively SW because of this policy. It has allowed me to travel more as I am more comfortable and do not have to deal with any judgement from the person that would have to sit next to me. So not really sure what I will do if the COS policy is discontinued. I also want to say that I do pay for my extra seat when booking.
I would think that it would continue the COS policy. Because that policy honestly is something I am all in favor for!!! It makes you more comfortable and makes it less have an issue like you said if someone may or may not have to sit next to you. 💙💛❤️
I'm an A-lister and two flights away from being a preferred A-lister. I don't know what to think about the assigned seating. But I do know that I love the open seating because I get to move around the back of the plane to another seat if it is not full. If I'm flying with my kid, I can have her in the window and I'll be on the aisle and we can leave that open. If we have to pick seats in advance, there's no chance I will select those two seats and leave the middle open. I would have to just do the aisle and middle, otherwise someone will be right in the middle. Does that make sense? It's the flexibility we are loosing.
It totally makes sense. I hope that they give A listers free seat selection. I think we will know more in Sept. Thank you for being loyal to SWA. I do you think that they will want to retain your loyal business so I’m hoping that they do something for the A-list.
From a coworker.... SW needs to keep some of those more legroom for retirees and employees that have the lifetime fly benefits. First, you have to start loading from the back forward. A) this will stop all the people in the wheelchairs, we all know that most people use those to preboard. How many times do you see them get wheeled down the jetway and then stand up to get in their seats. And then watch how many use the wheelchairs waiting at the destination.
Hmmmm - if SW is now going to charge extra for seats that used to be included - then no - unless there's some new benefit or value associated with the extra cost. SW's base fares are currently much higher than Spirit, Frontier, etc. and so paying extra - in addition to the already high fare - would be a no-go for me.
I am against it. I am one who needs a wheelchair to get up and down the jet way. I can walk to my seat with a cane while hanging onto something. I have to have bulkhead seats due to a large KAFO (Knee, ankle, foot, orthosis) which is a very large brace on my left leg, from Quad to foot. My fear is that if people buy up those seats first, it would prohibit my flying. I do not travel last minute so hoping booking way in advance might help. I have seen the abuse you speak of and agree it is a problem. I wish there was something we could show Southwest to verify our disability. Most of my trips are Sacramento to Denver. Thanks.
I hope they new seating doesn’t stop you from flying. Our hands are so tied when it comes to disabilities and our inability to challenge or ask people about them.
I think seeing all the buzz on social media and seeing peoples opinions, most of their reasoning for flying SWA is because of the open seating. What are the chances Southwest looses customers over this. My thought is since all Airlines are basically now assigned seating, then I have other options to explore. Now one might say well they may do assigned seating but 2 bags fly free. How long before Southwest starts charging for bags. Never thought they would do assigned seating like other major airline but now I would not be surprised if they started charging for baggage in the future. I think either if it’s because they are money hungry for making this decision or to crack down on Preboard abusers, they still profited whether people were preboard or not. Also with saying they listened to customers and this was their decision, are these supposed customers the same people complaining about Preboard issues? If so they can fly another airline that has assigned seating. The real SWA customers would say to Southwest, why change something that works and everyone loyal customer loves. So I see it as a way to make more money like a typical corporation.
It’s gonna be very interesting. Because yes, a lot of people have said that’s the only reason they fly us but then I feel like the same percentage. Say that’s the only reason they don’t fly us only time will tell honestly I thought they would maybe start charging for one bag like your first bag is free and your second bag coats something, when I started in the airline industry in 2008 is when everybody else started charging for bags so we’ve held out quite a while and I hope we do not start charging for bags. Make the carry-on situation even worse.
@@FlyGal737 let’s just hope it’s still affordable and it rolls out smoothly. As long as those bags fly free, they still have me as a customer. At least I know I will be at ease knowing I would have a good spot saved onboard. Fingers crossed out the prices not being outrageous. Hope to see you in the skies. 🌞✈️
