    I got one of these back in the day as one of the last Christmas presents I ever received from my mom, and judging from the stain pattern on the top speaker and the scratch pattern on the left side what you have here might actually be my old TV. Just a few things to add to your review. The swivel stand did not connect to the feet you pointed out on the bottom of the TV. there should be 4 rectangular offset holes in the bottom grill where the stand connected to it. It's all good that you don't have it. believe me, it was a pain in the ass to swivel and turn the thing and it would make this horrific end of the world squeeking sound when you did. I notice you don't have the remote, again, not a big deal but there were some cool features I remember from it. All of the buttons on the remote had an offset oval shape to them to match the astetic of the TV. Also, the channel up, channel down, volume up, volume down, and input select buttons were translucent and backlit. Whenever you pressed a button on the remote the whole thing would light up for a few seconds so you could see what buttons you were pressing in the dark. I still consider this one of the best CRT TVs I ever owned. Thanks for the video and the trip down nostalgia lane!

    Great memories seeing this amazing TV, a friend of mine used to have it and we played PS1 and PS2 on it. It's a shame they are so expensive nowadays. Thanks for the detailed video and cheers from Costa Rica!

    I don't remember when my parents got that for us when we were little, but we used it for gaming up until about 2006, and then we started using HDTVs after that. Not sure what happened to the TV, but I remember the speakers stopped working and had to be fixed on and off. My fondest memories of playing on it were when it sat in the closet and I'd lay on the ground playing Red Faction and Half-Life 1 on PS2 in the early 2000s, then one of the latter memories was Perfect Dark Zero and it was snowing outside.

    I’ve still got mine, lost the remote in my house, and one of the stereo rca on the second input isn’t working but other than that it’s still a beast, honestly is still is kinda a best in class crt and is like one of best looking and definitely the best sounding by a huge margin TVs you can get for retro gaming. It’s had a sharpness and some kinda special imaging that made it look hd before hd was a thing

    To salt this a little bit I had one of these back in the day, and ended up giving it to my grandparents after a little while. All crts were pretty much instant response which is great for gaming. The sound did get loud, but lacked body or mids/bass. Turns out speakers need a decent sized cabinet to sound good, and that cabinet should not be made from plastic. I was bummed it did not have S video or component inputs which would have been great for OG Xbox. I would just consider this an attitude era late 90s tv, but nothing special for gaming. The speakers in the doors I thought were cool, but they pretty much stayed open as it was inconvenient to close them. It just meant you had to get up to open them if you wanted to watch TV. I guess they were good at protecting the screen if you wanted to transport the TV? You would be better off getting a Shrek TV because at least it had s video input. If you want to game on a CRT with component, s video, or composite it's still pretty easy to find an old big CRT for cheap. If you want to be snobby about it you could get a bvm or pvm. For me I think moving forward I will probably look to buy some sort of retrotink to use with a modern TV. If you absolutely want to play light gun games then buy a Wii or emulate with a PC and a dolphinbar from Amazon.

    I still got my Samsung GX TV it lives on my desk with my N64 hooked up to it along with my Samsung VCR/DVD Combo and Roku Express + HD with Compoisite out. Also have it hooked up to my outdoor antenna using my Converter Box via RF. Still use it everyday. Heck i'm watching Late Night TV on it as i'm writing this comment.

    I had one. Purchased for 389.00 new (this was back in 96 I believe, as the PS1 had already been released.) As testament to your video, the speakers WERE LOUD, and sound great at playing at high levels. What most people didn't know, or explore with the GX-TV, was that it had a programmable alarm clock in it. Not just any alar,alarm, clock, you could have the selected channel. ( woke up my roommates often times at 5:00 am to the sounds of Rage Racer, Ace Combat, or anymusic cd in the play station. ) damn.. I miss this TV. I found one at some store, being used to display stuff. ( it wasn't even a gaming store) I said how much!? And the guy said " it will never be for sale...." remote, stand, everything..spanking brand new looking. I've rambled on too much. Love this tv.

    I'm surprised that Samsung put the "Sub woofer" above the components of the picture tube. You'd think the thumping Bass above the tube wouldn't be good for the circuitry.
    How do the speakers sound? Is the bass present, or rich and deep?
    Nice design. It has a pleasing aesthetic to it.

    • @TheToyRoom
      @TheToyRoom  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It the audio is very nice, crisp and clear. Even though the sub woofer section looks massive its not overpowering and blends well with the audio.

      the speakers are an easy fix - the wiring is just really tightly wound within the hinges that open them, so the speaker wires can come loose, but the speakers themselves are just fine. take it in to any electronics repair shop that still works on old devices, and they'll be able to fix it up in no time.
