    James shows you a solo play through of the CATAN Dice Game, designed by Klaus Teuber.
    00:00 Intro
    00:25 Overview
    00:50 Gameplay
    18:38 Final Turn & Wrap Up
    Description from BGG: boardgamegeek.com/boardgame/2...
    Like all the other games of the CATAN series, this game is about building settlements, roads, cities and hiring knights. This time, there is no board on which to place little figures: Every player has his own score card called the building sheet, which depicts a mini CATAN. You build by drawing the settlements and roads on your score card.
    To build you still require resources. These are collected by a Yahtzee-like mechanism that involves throwing six special dice (depicting the different resource symbols) up to three times. After each roll, the player can select which dice to keep and which to roll again. In the end, he may build using the thusly determined resources, and is awarded victory points for any finished buildings, which are recorded on the score card.
    The game lasts fifteen turns or about 15-30 minutes, after which the player with the most victory points wins.
    Note that the game has been designed for 1-4 players, meaning there is a solitaire version of the game, as well.

    I bought this game months ago excited to play it but also a bit intimidated, your explanation was the best one I found. I wanted to learn first before playing with others so I just played along with this video and learned all the rules thanks to you. I’ll be playing it a lot more. I’ll be back to your channel if I have any new games needing rules explained! Thank you for this video.

      I just stumbled upon this video with mild curiosity searching for one after picking up Catan Dice at Target on Clearance. If you're even mildly intrigued by Catan and you have a Target near you, head over there ASAP and pick up Rivals for Catan. It's the _best_ game in the whole Catan franchise, and it's on clearance right now at 70% off. Only reason I didn't pick that up as well is I already have two copies.

    Thanks for the explanation! I couldn't understand the directions, but after watching this, it really wasn't that hard.

    Would you please explain Island Two? I'd be amazing to see your explanations! :)

    First turn, first strategic mistake. Could have rerolled the sheep. If you hit a wood you can then reroll the 2 gold to either get a town or another road

    Thanks for the great explanation as a stand alone game from the original Catan, which I've never played, so I never understand the references!

    I think there are at least two versions of this game ... the clamshell version and a boxes version with wooden dice and black and white sheets.
    I have both of the above and keep them in the cardboard box.

      Yes, and disappointingly, the box version only contains island 2. They should have made the scoresheets double-sided with both islands.

    I played while watching- got 33 end score😅 Thanks! Now I can teach my friends and family! The board version is too long, I think.

      Yay! I hope you have lots of fun with your friends and family with this little game.
      Thanks for sharing your score :) 33 is not at all bad for your first play.

    I like getting the Knight and road combos while working on my cities. I skip the settlement and manage a lot of 100 + point games.

      Fascinating… now I’m curious to try that strategy the next time I play

      @@ThatBoardGameShow Work on those roads leading to all the cities. Collect knights and gain resources to use along the way to build cities. I use the 6th knight for the resource I need for one of the final 2 cities. The brick and log knights help with long roads to those far away cities. I get 20pt cities every game and 30pt cities almost every other game. Enough to win average players going for settlements.

    When you trade in gold for a resource you only flip one golden dice the other you set aside because it’s no longer playable that turn

    • @ThatBoardGameShow
      @ThatBoardGameShow  ปีที่แล้ว

      That is correct.
      I will often just use the two gold as a wild resource.

    Silly question here but because the settlement is directly after the first road shouldn’t that have been built first? I’m confused by this please help!

    • @ThatBoardGameShow
      @ThatBoardGameShow  9 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Not a silly question at all :)
      You can build the roads, settlements, cities, and knights independently from each other. But you do have to build each different set in sequential order.
      So for instance, you could build all the roads, and all the cities, but never build a single settlement the entire game, so long as you build roads connected to ones already built, and cities from lowest to highest.
      I hope that clears up your confusion?

    How come on the second round you didn’t take the two gold and make it into something else?

    Dude on your fourth roll you could have done a knight or settlement not just road
