Fun fact: in the Disney+ adaptation of the Togo story. It is shown that after Togo finishes his run he exaustedly lays down for some well deserved rest. But in reality the dog had so much energy that almost as soon as he was let out of his harness, he started chasing caribou and didn't come back for like three days.

Karina picking to also draw Togo is honestly so ironic, because if you read Togo's backstory, it is INCREDIBLY sports anime. To put it shortly, he was sick as a puppy & needed lots of extra care. When he got better, he became a real rowdy boy, a real delinquent, & his owner gave him away as a pet. THEN HE JUMPED THROUGH A CLOSED WINDOW to go back home & his owner was like damn!!! okay!! fine!!! But he was still a bad boy and kept fighting other dogs until a malamute taught him a lesson. Then when he was 8 months old, his owner got a gig to transport gold & locked Togo to the kennel, but if a closed window couldn't hold Togo back, a lock sure couldn't. He followed the sled dogs & even made them rowdy enough to try to fight reindeer, so finally his owner just put him in a harness AND WHAT DO YOU KNOW. Born natural leader! Born to be the best! And he wasn't even a year old yet!! SO sports anime!!!!

The Togo movie made me cry so much. I can’t believe it took so long for that dog to get the recognition it deserved. But it’s heartwarming to know that the dog and the guy didn’t want the fame in the first place they were doing it because it was the right thing to do.
For anyone who wants to know more about the Nome serum run (and Togo!) there's an amazing book called The Cruelest Miles. It's non-fiction, but reads like an action story.

My suggestion is Nancy Wake (aka "the White Mouse"). Another fantastic Resistance hero, she was a French/Australian socialite who leveraged her position in society and reputation as a silly party girl in order to assist in getting downed pilots out of the country. She escaped France a trained as a spy with SOE (her cover was that she was a member of FANY) and parachuted back into the country to join the Marquis (French resistance)... She was wild.

I love these so, so much, especially because they talk about actual interesting people and not just old rich white guys. Every one of these people's stories genuinely had me in awe, and that says a lot since normally I can't get into historical stuff.
History is so interesting because it's just a bunch of stories the trouble is finding an interesting fun stories

Idea for a Nuesday: Each artist is given a randomly generated color palette ( www.random.org/colors/hex ) that they must use to make something with. Maybe the colors work together like a beautiful sunset, maybe they clash horrifically. Only the RNG knows.

Now I'm curious in part of the social factors that led to Josephine Baker being so accepted in France, beyond just "less racism," like was she more defined by being American or a performer or her personality than ethnicity or what? It's interesting in what defines our identity to others and how that can change from place to place, country to country.
Afaik, there was still a racial aspect to it. She fit into a black=hypersexual stereotype in France. She was Othered but loved, rather than Othered and despised. Like, as Franz Fanon would tell you, it's not always amazing being black in France.
All that being said. America is up there with like South Africa for most racist/segregated country (for black people), so I can imagine someone moving literally anywhere else and having a better time of it.

He somewhat did, actually. Snails were eaten since at least the Roman Empire, but they became part of French gastronomy when Carême had no meat to serve to the Tsar of Russia, and saw some snails in his garden.

I love how down-pat Nathan has the Jojo style! His Jojo’s look like a blend of the best elements from parts 4 and 5 while remaining unique to him! And I am HERE for it! Also, you know someone’s setting out to draw a Jojo when their wireframe sketch looks like its a base in a fashion designer’s notebook XD (especually with the really broad shoulders, waspy waist, and sharply angled limbs)
I absolutely love it when Drawfee does these episodes where I can watch them draw the drawings in a time lapse manner while they explain what they drew and why. It brings such a fresh and quick aspect to it. Though I will say the traditional sense works really well for a binge day on the couch or in the bed c: these are great while at work though

Can you believe to learn: Leonhard Seppala owned both Balto and Togo. But he never saw Balto as a good race dog and was furious that Balto got all the credit that he felt belong to Togo.
