This was probably one of my most favorite comics ever, and I honestly wish I could have saved it, but I had to sell all my comics of mine to help raise money for my mom and her cancer battle, which she lost this year. I don't regret selling it or them, but the crossover was fantastically done.

Well, he literally acknowledged that, so is it a miscalculation?
Batman realized Captain has a stamina boost from his serum, which he literally mentions, so eventually through exhaustion alone they will both fall but cap would not completely be down, he just wouldnt be able to continue the fight, while bats would completely be exhausted. Which is why batman suggest if he wants to take cap down it has to be in a quick and decisive blows early on.
“We weren’t given a choice. We have to fight until someone goes down.” Any one else feel like this was the writers calling out the fans?

Give Batman a break, it is phenomenal that despite only being human, his skill, training and tactical brain allow him to take on others despite their greater physical attributes. Heck, he took on Superman!

It makes sense that they'd be evenly matched in terms of skills. CA's strength and endurance should have been superior to Batman's, though, given that he's an augmented human. Of course, they weren't trying to kill one another, just subdue.

@Skibidoop So the serum does bring them to the absolute peak of human physicality in terms of strength, speed, and endurance. The superhuman aspect of it is that he doesn't have to do anything to keep up his powers. He could live the unhealthiest lifestyle possible and still retain his abilities. That is the kind of thing that gives Cap the edge here.

I think that was the reason why Batman at the end said Cap could probably win that fight simply because he'd be able to keep going longer then himself. Which stands to figure. He's got the serum and a life time of combat training pumping through his veins ( I mean actual combat, he was fighting nazis across Europe "B.J." Blazkowicz style).

Everyone arguing over who wins is missing the entire point of the fight. It wasn't about trying to beat each other, it was about mutual respect and honor between famed fighters. That's what this comic was trying to display, that they are equals, and would be partners if it wasn't for their circumstances. It wasn't a death battle. If you don't like that then you might want to get used to it, because it's very, very common in storytelling.

Death battle without preparation, Captain America wins. He's a soldier and a killer. Otherwise, Batman also fights with words; Batman won this one with reasoning and debate. He was only stalling with the fighting. He even rescued his opponent although I'm not sure that his opponent needed rescued.

Just another great fight in an even greater crossover. Loved Avengers/JLA just wished it include the X Men and Fantastic Four in the overall conflict.

Yep. Avengers would really need more muscle in this scenario. The JLA is an All Star Team with to many heavy weights. Avengers would need the likes of Silver Surfer, Hulk, Black Bolt, Dr Strange to go along with Thor to really be competitive. The other whole fan based results comic was garbage.

This fight was cool because cap and Batman knew they were pawns and weren't trying to kill eachother they battled fair and square in the end. Thumbs up soldier! 👍

TOTALLY agree. JLA/Avengers is my all-time favorite limited-run story. And my go-to when I just want something enjoyable to read. Earlier this year, I even bought a second set of the 4-issues, just to have one set to keep in collector's condition, and one set I can feel free to read until the pages are falling apart.
@@ajb695 strange I thought it was marvel vs DC as they mentioned the two cosmic entities who are forcing the heroes of each universe to battle, Wolverine vs Lobo, Superman Vs Hulk, Robin Vs Jubilee, Storm Vs Wonderwoman, so many great match ups but this was one of the best.

This is what I miss from most of today's comic book artists. Clean, clear graphic storytelling. Panels that flow from one to the next, that illustrate and support the narrative, rather than an endless parade of splash pages.
Something I love about this whole clash is how low key and nuanced it is, more dramatic and based on individual tension. All the while in the background of most shots are mythically overpowered beings punching each other and engaging in fights that would likely shake the planet.
Somehow this fight is the most intense part of all of that absurdity. Really wish the movies would ever take a moment to capture that.
These two would fight to a draw. The respect shown was perfect.
Both of these men are honorable and intelligent. No way they would have reason to fight in anger.
The sad thing is that the characters themselves can respect each other but there fans can’t do the same 💀

in terms of phisique, cap has a not so great but it's still super strength.
In terms of skill they're equal.
However, even with augmented phisical capabilities(which feels pretty much like bane) all i see in a true fight between the 2 is a tie, or maybe not even a tie if one of the 2 sides makes a mistake and gives the other an opening, but with the likes of cap and bat? Nah

@@ihavenonamestilldonthaveon8970 superfast metabolism prevents him from even getting drunk. He just heals much quicker than a normal human body would do. Just like asguardians dont get tired in a full on combat for 24hours. (Although the mcu does show asguardians as some normal humans lol)

There is one major difference between Cap and Batman: Superhuman body versus Superhuman mind
While Batman is Peak Human in most physical traits, his sharp mind has often crossed the boundary into Superhuman levels, with only Lex Luthor and Brainiac usually being able to match/best him in the DC universe.
On the other hand, Steve Rogers had his body forcefully accelerated to Superhuman levels, but his mind remained the same. He's still a brilliant tactician and an experienced combat veteran, but his mind is firmly within the boundaries of Peak Human levels at his absolute best, with the likes of Tony Stark, Dr. Strange, Mr. Fantastic, and Hank Pym usually being the ones to obtain Superhuman intellect.
Cap's body can keep going well past when a normal human would have died from exhaustion, but Batman's extensive knowledge and martial arts mastery means that he knows the best ways to minimize his own energy usage while maximizing his opponent's in a long-term fight. Add in Batman's homefield advantage by fighting in the city streets at night (when a lot of Cap's early combat experience was military operations during the day), and it's difficult to say who would win if they both went all-out. Granted, both sides are smart enough that they'd at least try to think of a way out of the fight, but if even they can't think of an escape plan, then it'll be the mind of The World's Greatest Detective versus the body of The First Avenger.

Technically Cap's mind is superhuman, or at least it was. His whole shield bouncing thing was attributed to the super soldier serum boosting his brain's ability to calculate the angles in real time. Of course then Falcon and the Winter soldier took a big dump on that with all these regular humans doing the same thing.
@@brz757 True that Cap actually has enhanced intellect as well (something a lot of people miss), but check out the end of Falcon and the Winter Soldier again: not only does Sam have to train a ton to get used to even basic throwing patterns, but no characters uses the shear amount of ricochet and angle-bouncing craziness that Steve did. Most of Sam's shield throws as the new Cap were very straightforward in fact - throw forward and grab the direct bounce back (and at least once fails to catch it on the way back in the skyscraper fight). So yeah, I don't think a big dump was taken in this case. (And want to point out that while Sam isn't doing physics calcs in his head, he still is awesome and comes up with clever ways to use the great tools that he does have in order to overcome his obstacles - the show did a good job building him up as worthy of the shield).
@@brz757 only problem with that is you're right but the same could be said about batman achieving metahuman levels of strength and speed too, and I could list countless examples like deathstrokes literally stating batman hits harder than a metahuman would, and how he can produce 1200 lbs of force with one arm, but cap and batman are both peak humans while cap started achieving beyond peak feats a little sooner than batman. Batman is still the prime strategist, leader in all advanced tech, and the 2nd smartest being on the planet as said by Adrien Veidt.
So its still a pretty even fight between the 2nd smartest being on the planet in peak human condition vs the first successful super soldier with the brains to handle and win an entire full scale war.
Love the fact that they teamed up. Batman and Cap have tremendous respect for each other as strategists and combatants.

Eventually, Cap would win, simply because he would have a higher endurance than Batman. But, it would be a close fight and any individual match up could go either way. In 10 fights, 6-4 Cap.
As much as I love bats this is true. But idk if he will loose or even win. Idk outcome but it's more like battle between skill and power. Like bats deff has more skill and brains but cap is litrally a super human he has more speed strength he processes things faster and so on. So can't really say who would win but yes if the fight goes on for very long it's cap. If bat can use everything (gadgets wise) I think bat would win...
@@anshvyas1185 While I am not saying for sure that Cap is smarter than Bats, but I would point out Captain America is genius level IQ. He's not associated with Marvel's "brain boys" because he's not a scientist or a computer programmer, et cetera. Nonetheless, he's supposed to be a genius level tactician and strategist. In the latter comic above, even Bats says that Captain America should be the overall tactician in the final battle.
Not sure if that would make a significant difference, but it's not 100% certain that Bats is smarter than Cap.
As far as gadgets, it would clearly depend on the gadgets. After all, Batman does have access to complete battle suits. Theoretically, Cap does also, through Tony Stark or SHIELD, but he rarely uses those.

Bats gadgets and tactics would give him the upper hand. Cap doesn't train for stealth and the kind of tricks that batman has, but I guess you were talking purely hand to hand combat, in which case, yeah, you're correct. But, in a no holds barred fight, where anything goes, I'm sorry, I can't see cap standing a chance against Batman's gadgets and tricks.

This was my favorite of the Amalgam battles. I never got this one but I think I just want a collection of reprints of them all now.
Edit: I like how all the other heroes blindly battled until one was defeated, but not Batman and Cap; they teamed up to actually try and find a solution.

It's hard to tell whether they buffed Batman or nerfed Cap in order for them to be equally matched in strength, but I liked this fight nonetheless. The panels, the transitions of it all was great. I guess only at 1:18 we're given a hint that Batman has less stamina as he's the only one huffing and would likely lose in a prolonged fight
Cap in the comics is only peak human levels in stats, not super human.
Tho this may still give him the advantage; its not like the MCU Cap, who is super human in his abilities.

Its been stated that the serum combats his lactic acid build up and speeds up his healing abilities and grants him all sorts of immunities and tolerances to a wide range of substances and he's immune to mental effects like PTSD, Parkinson's etc. MCU and Ultimate Cap are truly superhuman in every sense of the word though, and Ultimate Caps son, The Red Skull is an existence level threat.

It is hard to say which would win.
When it comes to technique and skill I would say it's a tie. They are both essentially perfect. You will never see them slip up or make a mistake in combat. They are both about as good as you can be.
In terms of weapons and equipment I would say they are roughly equal, maybe leaning towards Cap. His shield is an extremely powerful and versatile, offensive and defensive tool. Batman does not have anything nearly as strong but he does have a more unique and varied arsenal of tools that grant him a huge amount of utility and options in combat that Cap doesn't have.
Cap has the physical advantage being a superhuman and all. How super he actually is varies a lot depending on the iteration but it's safe to say that he is faster and stronger than Batman the majority of the time.
Batman has the advantage in intelligence. He can read his opponents, predict their actions, and formulate counter-strategies extremely quickly and effectively allowing him to fight on par with opponents who seem way stronger than him on paper.
Assuming there is no prep time I would say Cap takes it 57/100 times, gaining a slight edge due to his shield and the fact that he doesn't have any real weaknesses that Bats could exploit(which is often a major part of Bats gameplan)
Tbh the only thing that I think batman could exploit is Cap's good fellow shctick. I mean he's the all-American-fair-fighting-star-spangled-nazi-beater. I could see him falling for bait laid by batman and falling prey to nasty tactics. Which batman isn't typically afraid to employ

He’ll drop the gun if hes not enraged or in a very critical moment. I can imagine batman luring him into a fair punch out, then leading cap into a trap batman prepared. Or a weapon he hid.

I saw a scene change and assumed it went on over a period of time where they coulda had chances to reflect on the fight and prepare. Most fights that swing batmans way dont if he doesnt have time to prepare and think about his enemy. Either way writers usually make him think on his feet and “see an opportunity noone else does” when they cant think of a reason he wins. I just assume his best bet would be assessing cap, which he mustve done to some level if he respects him already, and try to get an emotional response in skme typa advantageous way
@@intrex9828 understood. Some cool stuff i didnt know fully before. Never been a huge cap fan and never bothered reading or learning any of his comic lore. If I'm honest most of my assumptions came from the mcu. They make him out to be a little more vulnerable in the area of the mind at times.

-superhuman reflexes

If anyone is gonna drop from exhaustion, it's gonna be Batman.
Caps serum actually only puts him at Peak human physique, which were directly stated in comics, batman has achieved the exact same peaks without the serum. The only differnce is you're right and it would be a battle of exhaustion or intellect more. If the battle goes on too long Cap eventually takes it, but if batman manages to end it using his superior intellect like his various knowledge of all human and alien phsyology and pressure points, or using his enviroment to his advantage (which did technically end up happening) then bats would take it. Caps peak endurance was the only thing bruce cant fully compete with even though the fight would last for days like they mentioned.
In strength, speed, combat and martisl arts, as well as agility, they are equals in every right.
And while cap is a prime strategist and definetly above intellect, batman edges him out due to sheer scaling of his knowledge over a variety of areas from chemistry, science, precongiation predictability, advanced tech application, pilot, escape artist, biology, nanotechnology, deduction, detective skilled analysis, magic knowledge (yes he knows how to cast some spells), etc etc.
@@amanpreetgill7564 We can look at Bruce Lee as an example of someone in real life who was said yo have a achieved superhuman levels of strength and fitness through a strict training and dietary regime which he was obsessed with. Batman is as dedicated if not more so. Then there is no reason why Bruce Wayne couldn't be considered superhuman. That being said. I believe CA would prevail due to him being more superhuman and his combat experience.

Cap is stronger than batman he's able to pull down helicopters with a rope ko daredevil in 2 hits. Outmuscle wolverine overpower black panther in a few hits. Those 2 are superhuman by the way. Cao can also run 60mph. And can heal from a gunshot to the head in a day.
This is a cool concept in general. Batman is unrivaled in pure hand to hand (with a few notable exceptions), but Cap knows quite a few martial arts as well and has the whole super human strength thing going for him. Batman can hit you in more ways but Cap can hit you

I have this comic still in my collections. Its probably one of my favorites and I will reference it whenever friends of mine ask Marvel Vs DC questions.
They've faced each other twice in crossovers and both times Bats admits Cap would win in a long run
I remember when these comics came out, and there was actually an 800 number at the end of each previous book, that allowed for readers to vote on who would win, and then it was written out that way. If I remember correctly Bats had a slight win over Cap, like 52% to 48%. Man that was when people liked the comic books for the content, and there wasn't the Marvel is better than DC, it was like this fight, great mutual respect for each publisher. If only a live action version could be made today, man it would be a killer movie series, I am sure it would break a ton of box office records.

The main issue would be getting a solid Batman for the part. Most people have a preference, though, I honestly don't hold any of them as the quintessential Batman. None of them have been perfect in both the roles of Gotham's Most Eligible Bachelor, billionaire Bruce Wayne, and the Dark Knight, respectively. Mostly, none of them really looked the part. For Bruce, you have to be a pretty good looking man. At the same time, you have to have the lower face to properly portray Batman, jawline in particular. Then they need to not muck up the suit, then the writers need to give the actor something to work with. Preferably all without pushing post produced growl-voice.

As for the "is Cap ~normal human or super-powered?" discussion... that depends on when (and what writer) you're reading.
For years, it was good enough that the super-soldier serum (and the machine) transformed Steve Rogers into the peak human physical specimen (yes, he already had the intellectual/emotional/moral underpinning), was taught combat/tactics/etc... and THEN he maintained that peak physical condition with training.
At some point, they got more and more into (IMHO) nonsense about such things as super-soldier serum being an active drug in his body, super-soldier serum 'eliminating the build-up of fatigue poisons in his body', super-soldier serum maintaining his body, getting rid of all the super-soldier serum by giving him a full blood transfusion (I think this must have been some '90s theme of "we can't have Cap being on drugs/steroids/whatever, sends wrong message...), and super-soldier serum actively keeping Cap young - so when the "serum is removed from his blood" in some other storyline (leading up to Sam Wilson becoming new Cap) he rapidly ages to his natural age (octogenarian at that point, I think).
Awful writing at times - as bad as some of the contradictory hyperbole stuff they have him do with the shield.
I always said if these two went head to head, not only would they respect each other as warriors, they might even become friends.
It is reminiscent of an old Japanese tale of two samurai who meet on a bridge. They stop and face each other, just looking at each other for a very long time. Then one samurai give a tiny nod, turns around and walks away. After studying each other, the one who walked away realized he would lose, so he admitted defeat and walked away.

One thing I've questioned is that Cap says his visual acuity is so sharp that he sees bullets in flight and can raise his shield in time to deflect them thanks to his enhanced reflexes. So, if he is fighting someone without superhuman speed shouldn't their moves seem like slow-motion to him? It doesn't seem like someone should be able to sucker punch him or come swinging in and catch him with a flying kick..
Batman is far beyond a bullet timer. If you take his best showings, he's able to keep up with Karate Kid in speed who can react to bloodlusted full speed Kryptonians charging him, and Batman dodged bloodlusted Kryptonians himself

Captain America is not just some brute, he is the top 3 most skilled Marvel fighter with not just knowing plethora ways of killing someone with physical contact but also weapons, he once subdued a superhuman with a baton throw and knew his anatomy. Cap adepts to every fighting styles known to men and adapts in every unknown fighting condition (he photographically copied DD's form and fought blind folded in nocturnal environment and claimed it was no different).
He sparred and won against Shang Chi (one of the most H2H skilled fighter in fictional history just behind Iron Fist). Taskmaster finds his style unpredictable. Cap has even learned CHI, a style Batman is unfamiliar with.
And Captain America processes information at the speed of desktop computers which are like 11x faster than normal humans, he is kind of a super genius with that alone and then his ability to make a plan on the spot while Batman needs prep time. You need to realise that Cap is more impromptu analytical because unlike Bats, he most of the time does not even need prep and beats his opponents without much equipment.
Additionally, Cap's greatest feat was soloing God Doom and was winning who is way more powerful than any character Batmam faced or won against.
And do tell me how equipment is going to help against Cap? Heck Bats can't even invent a serum to counter Cap's abilities cause Cap's serum as an impulse extracts any toxin which does not match with its composition. Also, Cap knows his own anatomy and the humans more than anybody, he could kill people easier without even using his strength. Cap apparently knows "everything" in the comics and an amplifier made him a nexus being with his knowledge in the comics.
This is why you MCU mobs or DC comics wanker need to do your research.

Debatable as Captain America did not just master every fighting style known to men but he created his own fighting style at one point, became proficient in CHI (spiritual Martial arts) and he picked up the fighting styles of Aliens.
And Batman is definitely afraid to kill, not because he can't but because of what it would do to him. Maybe actually learn something about Batman before trying to reason for him too.

Think about how batman lost to bane, bane wore batman out by releasing all the Gotham criminals and when he was dead tired and wore out, beat him. That's batmans greatest weakness, exhaustion. After a day of fighting he would be dead tired, but Steve would just keep on going.
I used to have the whole comic in a single edition was my favourite so many amazing fights, when it got stolen, I was gutted to say the least.

This is much better than the silly Amalgam comic from the early 90’s where the fans got to vote who would win each pairing. Batman got more votes than Cap, so Batman won. A whole lot of Batman fan boys were like “Haha! Batman is more powerful!” No, Batman is more popular. Big difference.
Personally, I love them both and would love to see them team up against Hydra. Cap’s military background and experience with Hydra added to Batman’s resources and detective mind… THAT would be awesome!

Reminds me of the Batman vs Spider-man comic where they fight. Batman holding his own against Cap and Spider-man who are both enhanced superhumans is very impressive.
I had wondered who would win, and this is wonderful. It is so justified that they are on par: they are similar in strength, speed, endurance, combat experience, intelligence ... Maybe Cap is still superior in physical matters (in intellect and gadgets Batman has the upper hand), but Batman despite not having a super soldier serum, he is not ordinary: with all his training all his life, he is basically an inferior version of a super soldier, he can catch up with a real super human (he has). In the long run and without gadgets and stuff, Cap obiously would end up winning the physical match because he still has the physical advantage, but he definitely would not come out unscathed. And the fact that they show each other respect, that they recognize each other's strength, is amazing.
I think the deciding factor is just that batman is far more skilled in hand to hand combat than captain America. It's sort of like comparing street fighting to professional fighters. Not saying cap is only Street level, of course not. Dudes got major skill. The problem is that he's not....master every martial art and know every way of subduing, killing, and disarming someone. If we disregard super strength, speed, and the fact that batman always holds back the deadly techniques he's been trained to use, then he's the most dangerous hand to hand combatant on earth. Cap is very much a boxer for a fighter, but even the best boxing will only take you so far against an opponent who has many more physical methods of fighting (offensively and defensively) against you.

This fight was ridiculous like so many of batman's fights. He is not enhanced, he would be exhausted and broken in pieces if he were fighting Captain America. This was a fan voted outcome. It's absolutely ridiculous.
The FIRST of the two fights was fan voted, yes. The second was not. The two fights are from two separate crossovers. And in the comics, at least the 616 main universe, Steve doesn't have super strength, he's at peak human ability. Batman is on par with that.
Training, skill, will power and experience they are equally matched. Cap has 1 edge his augmented physiology he could potentially push his body further than Batman.
Batman is still far ahead in the training and skill category, thus making them equals.
I would argue that batman is ahead in terms of intellect. He is one of the smartest humans of his world, it just doesn't get shown all that much outside of being a detective.

Batman beat Deathstroke on and off. So facing Capt wouldn't make a difference at all. Plus, Batman is the most analytical mind ever. He pick up on the fact that Capt is a supersoldier after the single hand exchange.That's why he mention the fact that Capt would win in a battle of nutrition. Plus, at the end, Capt saw Batman as equals when they face each other outside their aliases.

A lot of people argue that Captain America is an augmented human therefore he'd win..
But.. people don't realize that Batman can definitely match his strength due to writing, they made him crazy strong, on the edge of being superhuman, while somehow learning over 20 different fighting styles.
But Captain America has mastered many fighting styles too.. he's also about the same physical strength as Batman in most versions, both being able to lift around 1,200 pounds. Batman has superior intellect and Cap has a nearly unbreakable shield.
It is very hard to decide who'd win in a dog fight, if Batman had known Cap for a while before they fought he'd win for sure, but under other circumstances it's hard to decide.

Honestly as much as I love Batman, I don’t really like that he can compete with other highly trained Super Humans. It’s one thing to play cat and mouse with a sloppy person with powers, but to be able to have full on fights with characters like Cap and even DeathStroke always felt a bit handicapped in a way.
People always assume that Humans in Marvel and DC peak out in the way irl humans do
In Marvel and DC, with training you can go beyond normal human limits in the same way character in anime/manga and such can. In anime/manga it's common but for whatever reason, many people assume that it's more realistic and grounded in comics even though comics have more crazy and over the top power level ceilings than most anime lmao
In DC we have Karate Kid who's a regular un augmented human from the future than can fight Kryptonians with martial arts alone
To a less extreme extent, we have people like the Punisher or Shang Chi in Marvel that can keep up in speed with or outpace Spider -Man in terms of combat or one shot him etc (specifically in Shang's case)
There's also Iron Fist who beat Sabertooth without using Chi at all... someone who consistently beats on Wolverine etc
Batman is relative to those kinds of characters in DC more so than Karate Kid in his own solo/Bat Family comics
In Crossover Comics though, Batman has feats like no prep equipment...usually explosives... that can damage Kryptonians and dodge their bloodlusted attacks etc

Batman is far more skilled. Thats a simple fact. If cap is a blue belt batman is a blackbelt, that is the gap in their skills. However that bluebelt may as well also be as strong as someone like eddie hall while losing no speed for it.

People confuse the supersoldier serum from the comics and the UCM, the one from the comics only makes the human reach his physical peak, it doesn't give super strength, in the ucm it does. So Batman and Cap are very even

They talked about how Spectrum was able to absorb some of the energy from GL's ring and how Galactus was defeated by the main villain of that comic

Idk where you got Earth 7642 from but that's not the universe it happened in. The 2006 handbook for the marvel universe has all the crossovers that happened during or before that year that's in that universe and the JLA vs. Avengers one isn't on there. It happened in their respective canonical universes. Marvel doesn't really have any reboots on their side. Just one straight timeline. And on DC's side everything pre crisis to Rebirth is canon thanks to Death Metal. I'm pretty sure a handbook published by Marvel and states events and feats from their canonical universe is canon

Nah it has all the crossovers that were mentioned before then in that universe. JLA vs. Avengers came out in 2003. If it were in that universe it would've been mentioned in that handbook. That wasn't a hard reboot though. They still mention and reference things that happened before Secret Wars like the 1st Civil War and the incursions and that all happened before Secret Wars. Galactus was revealed to be alive at the end of JLA vs. Avengers after they defeated Krona.
