For me, one of the most frustrating parts of becoming elderly and immobile would be everyone talking about you, not to you.
Agreed. I’m an EMT and I do my best to make a point of talking to the patient instead of about them. Even if I’m not sure they are coherent, simple reassurance and a friendly voice goes a long way I’d like to think.

I'm already at that point...I'm 77 and it has already started.My youngest daughter is taking over making appointments for me with the doctor,the pharmacist...she even made appointments to have my two cats groomed from head to toe...of course I'm the one who foots the bill because I don't want to be a financial burden...life is tough enough as it is with everything that's going on.She spoils me...brings me Cappuccinos form Tim Horton and hamburgers from A&W.My oldest son comes and see me every week,they all live in neighboring small towns around me.So...I'm really spoiled.But time goes on and have all kinds of health issues and I don't want to be a burden!

@@oldchickie You are not a burden. You as a parent spent countless nights awake bottle feeding them and wiping their asses of s**t nonstop. You either worked your ass off, stayed at home or both to provide for them. The least children can do is take care of their elders.

The guy who works on the windows, my heart hurts for him. I’m so glad that the paramedics were so kind and not judgmental. Bless them 💜

@Hasmeen C. Bruh...People absolutely still try to do what they enjoy here. Some people of course do follow the money, but I wouldn't even say a plurality (let alone majority) have that as their sole motive.
I recently found out that in Germany they have emergency doctors who ride to the scene or home to help the patients. Being from the US this shocked me.

Such a lovely woman! I was hospitalized after having a blockage for seven days. They x rayed me and IMMEDIATELY gave me morphine. I could not even wrap my head around that being just a "side effect" of the greater pain she is going through. She has such a huge tolerance! Such grace and friendliness when under such agony. I hope she has an easy passing; Gods know she deserves it. And thanks to the medical personnel who gave her pain meds to use when she felt she had had enough. That is such a kindness.
Me too even though she's going through hell with pain she keeps smiling...that's a gift from God nothing less!
Here in the US a man walked into the waiting room at the ER with half of his skull missing and blood squirting everywhere. He said he couldn’t afford an ambulance ride. Then he was made to sit for another 30 minutes till they could get a room for him. Three people went ahead of him, two being broken fingers..... I’m chronically ill and the medical system here is absolute garbage.

There is little dignity in aging. Unfortunately most forget they will get there too! But in EMS, everyone’s life is extra special! It is done that way in this country and in the USA! I’ve been an EMT-P for 28 years and I treat everyone like they were my Mother/Father with as much compassion and dignity I can muster! I love my job and love people! Good job mates!
When the sister said "We come into this world together, we leave this world together." I had to pause the video and cry a little bit. That's a bond if I've ever seen one.
I'm stuck in america, and unless you are actively dying an ambulance "isn't needed" because they're so expensive. We end up with people in extreme pain or something driving down the highways because they can't afford an ambulance trip.
Yep! Three years ago I drove myself 40min to the ER with appendicitis. I was hunched over in extreme pain but I knew it would be a $2000+ ambulance bill and couldn't afford that being a college student.

Many people call for an ambulance when one isn’t needed. That’s what drives the cost up. I used to work in a hospital billing office and so many people would call just for a cough or a sprain. A lot of people want to go to the ER because they don’t want to have to wait in one of the many Urgent Care’s or Clinics. This abuses the system and also makes costs for up for those who really need an ambulance.
There was an episode I saw where some lady only bruised her knee and called an ambulance.... Here in the US you just walk that shit off lol
i think i can top yours.....i saw an episode where the call came in as a stabbing with major bleeding, and i swear to God it was a paper cut!!! the person actually said she knew if she said it was a stabbing they would come faster!!!!
I've seen people in the US call an ambulance for really minor things, too. It's so frustrating that calls like that waste time and cause delays for people who actually do need an ambulance!
@@stephanieadlerm My rule of thumb is that if I can treat it at home then I am not going anywhere. I have a small first aid pile of things. I can treat most minor injuries at home and change the dressings. If it needs stitches then I would go to the ER or if something was broken.

In US, they never give you any pain medication until you have been tested and diagnosed. They leave you in pain for hours sometimes.
I work as an emt and it depends, some pain meds can making other conditions worse. We can see what’s going on inside your body, especially in severe trauma and medical patients. So usually only necessary meds are given, only the hospital have the tools to make sure that any meds given that the side effects don’t make conditions worse. Every state is different as far protocols, my advice to check with your local state. Ask any paramedics you know in your area when they can and can not give pain meds.
@@unknown1238157 some placed probably have just BLS crew, meaning they don't have some1 trained in the knowledge and ability to give pain meds. bc. you can't just give out meds, you have to know when to give them, when now to, side effect, and stuff like that

Thats not true. Advanced Life Support ambulances routinely administer pain meds. I just gave fentanyl to a patient that fell and broke ribs.
the first gentleman sounds like my father. he doesn't want to bother his doctor. it's ok mate. that's what they are for. I have to tell myself the same thing. I am a single mom and had to give in and call an ambulance for myself. my son who is 17 and deaf was allowed to ride up front with the EMT driver. He was really impressed and and thought it was cool! it was a wonderful learning experience for him. so it's ok buddy to ask for help and I pray your doing well!!
Exactly. My aunt was the kind to never bother her doctor. She was found dead on her bathroom floor by the neighbor. After an autopsy they found cancer in her bowels that would have been painful for months. But she never went to the doctor. And this was in the UK where she didn’t have to pay for a doctor.
Don’t ignore the signs your body is giving you. See a doctor!

Aww.. the woman with the cancer has the same type my grandmother had. I used to empty the bucket she was throwing up in. Sadly, my grandmother didn't fight for that long at all.

I'm hooked on this show. These paramedics are top notch, the very best, so compassionate, caring, gentle with their patients. I'm glad they can maintain a great sense of humor, can joke and laugh with one another band their patients, for without it they'd lose their minds. God bless them every one!

I really like how they had an update of the patients at that end... curiosity always gets the best of me but I also noticed they missed the window fitters update, with his ankle and the swelling... I wonder how he made out? Hopefully he turned out alright...
The twin sisters are so precious, no doubt they have spent many lifetimes together and will spend many more lifetimes by eachothers side..God is good like that..life is a blessing, the plans they have made together were beautiful and special 💗
I had septic shock 7 years ago. Sepsis is NOT something to mess with. It’s HORRID. I was in a coma the whole shebang. . Ended. Up loosing my toes on one foot and the tips of my toes on the other.SO happy that the hospital has a septic protocols and team. Sepsis is just as life threatening as a heart attack.
Val’s one was so sad. How her cancer was so advanced that the doctors weren’t doing anything, and that she was aware with knowing she was going to die soon. Sending hugs
I feel for this 91 yr. old male. I have had next of kin fall especially my poor late father. He passed away early this year at the age of 94. I do miss him everyday.

Oh, I whole heartedly agree.
I can't say this enough...the amount of wholesome hospitality is enormous no matter which one of these I binge watch. I know the emts in the west are epic at their jobs too but we could do with a bit more of this.
I hope Val's sister is getting on ok without her. So sad. I'm glad they made the most of it, together.

Simon has such a sweet manner with his patients. I'm sure he's a wonderful father.
Breaking your collarbone is absolutely horrible. I broke it when I was 11 at my summer camp and the bone broke so half of it was on top the other half. It took me 30 minutes to sit up and I had to stay the night at the camp before we could contact my mom the next day and take me to the hospital. My mans is a trooper, handled it so much better than 11 year old me.

If i had cancer, only 4-6 months to live and my pain was a 20 out of 10 I would be taking pain medicine. I do not want to die in pain. I guess I don’t understand why she doesn’t want the pain medication.

I get quite the kick out of how they all tell their patients "sharp scratch" when they test their blood sugar or insert an IV...lol. It's not a sharp scratch...a scratch indicates it's only on the surface or through just a few layers of skin. It's more of a POKE!! Here in the US, what I hear most is "a quick stick".
I guess it just shows how our wording is different across the pond...lol
I feel like scratch is a better description because an IV feels more like a deep scratch than a poke lol.
I can’t believe the size/gauge of needles they use for that “sharp scratch.” They are huge! So glad in the US, my chart says to use a butterfly needle on me (designed for children & tiny). And if I’m in a situation, where I see a larger needle heading my way I can say, “no you don’t!!!! Butterfly only, thank you very much!”

We here in the U.S. does not have all these kind of medical care like London, England and the surrounding areas. Their EMT'S do more for their patients then we do.
I really think that our EMT'S should have more training in this field of
medicine.

Val and her sister were so sweet. Made me cry. My mom died of ovarian cancer. Actually, she died of brain cancer after the ovarian cancer went to her lungs and lastly her brain. Rest in peace, sweet ladies. I pray your waiting for God box worked luv.

I only ever had to have nitrous oxide once, before my wisdom teeth were extracted, to calm me down. It actually made me more nervous lol. I heard my heartbeat rise on the monitor and asked the staff if I was going to die. I'm one of those weird ones I guess. Morphine messed me up too.
I got it everytime I went to the dentist for work, & I LOVED it so much, 8 year old me would TRY to get cavities so I could enjoy it. 😂 i was an IDIOT. it made me feel like i was flying.
Same lol I relate, when I went to a health cemtre for a nebuliser they hooked me up to a heart rate monitor and it was like 130 because I kept coughing a lot. Well I was panicking because I knew that was more than double the rate my heart should be beating and so when I started to panick I could hear the beeping begin to fasten lol
In the US l feel the compassion left the medical field years ago.Its all big business and profit these days. A horrible tragedy when you are dealing with peoples lives...
It's really tough seeing Val and Pam. My Aunt went through close to the exact same thing Val is.
We lost our great-grandmother just before Thanksgiving of last year, she was 95 years old. That granddad, Ken, reminded me of her. She was a smiling and kind beauty until the day she passed away due to Alzheimer's. I hope that man is doing well.

the old ladies made me cry! It reminded me of my Grandma who receives monthly chemo and I am lucky to still have her with me. I hope they spend the rest of the time they have together and they live it to to fullest :)

Amazing people, so much empathy. I don't live in the UK anymore (Estonia) diagnosed stage 4 two years ago, the health service is very good here as well, not overloaded like NHS. Been to ER 3 times, saw Doctor within 15min and admitted to bed within 30min, the advantages of small population I suppose.
13:00 I'm so happy this guy cannot put a sling on. I used to be a lifeguard on swimming pool. While I never had to make one for somebody, I struggled with it so much in the lifeguard formation XD. I'm happy to see even actual paramedics sometimes struggle with that too XD
This show is how I learned that I can look at fractures and dislocations all day but if somebody throws up I have to flee the room.

@@momofcalgary no thanks, I rather not have my body exposed to a camera, nor would I like one in my face in a moment of weakness, sorrow, and helplessness. Things are confidential for a reason in the medical field.
Those are probably just so they can film for the show. On another episode another ambulance had to be called and the other paramedics did not have body cams.
Also what about that gas. It would help so many people and be so much easier for the paramedics if everywhere had that in my opinion
I always try to let my CA patient's know that I'm thinking about them and hope what ever it is they're facing at that moment has a good outcome. "I hope your procedure goes well today! I'll be rooting for you!"

What did he tell her to say in the radio at 41:35? There's subtitles pretty much every time but there. I know they are saying the ambulance number, but what else did she say? And then get excited when the dispatcher responds.

I went mildly septic as a kid, I was only about 7. The only reason we found it is because I said my foot hurt (I had stepped on a shell, and the bacteria on it was what triggered it)
After seeing how bad it can get, I'm so glad my mom was aware of what it was and took me to the ER as fast as she did
I was at the day hospital, when a guy sat next to me, who was clearly very ill. This was just after covid, so I moved away from him. Hours later the nurse came to find him because he was sitting in the wrong section. Turned out he was stabbed and bleeding internally, so it wasn't obvious. I felt bad, but he wasn't talking so we couldn't have known, or helped him. Some people would rather lose their lives, than to be a problem for others.

emts told my roommate who was puking from pain she didnt need to go to the hospital
told her it was a panic attack even tho she's never had one
and later at the er when the pain returned much worse (she ended up having to have an organ removed) while admitted she didnt receive any pain meds until 4 hours after laying in the er :(

Why don't they use gas in the United States? Everything is controlled here and they swear everyone is a drug addict if their in pain.
Because giant asshats of doctors have been prescribing narcotifc painkillers like they were candy. Now you have people addicted to opioids, cut off from the source, switching to heroin, because it's cheaper and easier to get.

Some dental offices use it but the pharmaceuticals run the US pain medications.
Yeah its mainly used in children's Dentistry. I wish they would use it here for other things. Then we wouldnt have such a horrible opiate crisis. So many young people die from accidental overdose from opiates, its just really heartbreaking!!!

I wish they gave pain relief like that in America like holy shit when I broke a bone my parents drove me to the hostipal because you know ambulance are expensive in America, but besides that I would just have to deal with the pain before during and after the visit all they told me to do was to take some over the counter pain killers that didn't do jack shit.
