She showed up at the back gate on a cold December night
Hungry and tired, hint of wild left in her eyes
Storm was rolling through, worst we’d seen in years
Said, don’t know what you’re running from but you’re more than welcome here
Her mane was matted, no shoes on her feet
Opened up the barn, pulled some hay down so she could eat
Called up to daddy to help get her settled in
He just shook his head, said “Well, I guess you got yourself a horse then”
Her coat was white as snow, she stood bout ten feet high
And I lived for the days, we would ride, ride, ride
When the season comes around I think of her giant, gentle spirit.

Well daddy made some calls, but nobody must’ve missed her
She was a little shy, no triple crown prize winner
But she shined up like tinsel and she took a shine to me
And without her, well I don’t know where I’d be
