Hi Lanae, I went to high school on Jeepneys where the driver and me had to stick our heads out of the side to see where we were going. You could not see through the windshield. Many drivers had an altar on the dashboard, some very elaborate. The drivers would show off their wealth with a large number of hood ornaments in chrome! Not an open space on their hood! My brothers, sisters and cousins speak Tagalog. My dad and his clan speak Ilocano while my mother and her clan speak a Spanish dialect. Both my parents, my aunts and uncles could speak their dialects without any of us kids understanding them. It was The Warning that me realize that with my mom’s passing, no one is left to speak Spanish in the house. I am now teaching my son Spanish. My dad is in poor health and he is the last one left here that speaks his dialect.
