    If you're gonna go 350, you might as well do the 400 on a Merc.
    But this is exactly why I opted for the 300. A lot of extra weight for nominal increase in performance, especially for an inshore application. Can float shallower and get similar performance. Great video.

    Thanks Aaron for another smile. I enjoy the videos. Even if it has little to do with me and my boat. I think that the fuel economy would be different with a prop change. Adding 100 hp without a prop change doesn’t make sense but I understand that if you don’t have a different prop to switch out it’s tough. Fun to watch though. 😊

    If midrange economy is your game try the Enertia ECO props, that's what they were designed for and they are very good at that. They are also fast and good for lifting the boat out of the water. They bite quite hard (like a rev4) so go down 1'' pitch from the Enertias. A set of 16 pitch Enertia ECOs should be bang on for that boat... try them. I don't think you'll be dissapointed and I want to see the video! :D

    The 350s have a bigger gear case as well as other upgrades like an intercooler.. The 400s however, are basically a high revving 350.
    I run a single 350 on a '94 24' whaler with a 16.5 enertia eco and a jack plate. If i was repowering now I would get a 400 or the 300 NA v8... prob cheaper to run.
    It really seemed like the boat in the video was underpropped. The guys at Mercury told me the 350 IS a more efficient engine than the 300 i6 torque/fuel burn wise but the 350 will burn more at wot.

    I’ve been watching a lot of your videos and it sure has helped a lot but I am stumped on my boat the moment and need a little trouble shoot help. I have a 2015 250 pro xs optimax 2 strike on my 23’ explorer bay boat. When I try to make my hole shot it bogs down after it hits 3,000 rpm and just keeps doing it right before it gets to get on plane and sits me back down. Sometimes it’ll get onto plane after a few tries of throttling down and mashing it but only get up to about 4,000 rpm. Anything helps, love the channel and hope to hear back from you

    • @BornAgainBoating
      @BornAgainBoating  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thank you! It's hard to say, it could be anything. The best place to start is going through the tests from the optimax video: th-cam.com/video/88u0TdOo6vI/w-d-xo.html
      Those tests should lead you in the right direction, the only other thing would be that the engine doesn't see block water pressure, which is a sensor on the aft of the engine that has a water tube going to it. Make sure that's getting water and that the engine can see it.

    • @BornAgainBoating
      @BornAgainBoating  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Depends, the 350s and 400s have a different injector which has a larger volume to get more fuel into the cylinder and that is part of how they get the extra horsepower out of them. So certain applications and speeds have different results :(

  • @benjigans1419
    @benjigans1419 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    It’s actually quite amazing. My boat, a 30 foot Boston whaler, can only do 24 at 4200 rpms and 28 at 5000 rpms depending on load and conditions. Twin 350 verados would really help my boat gain more speed and gain more fuel economy. Most boats in my size that motor combo is way too big for. But my boat weighs 10-11,000 pounds fully loaded needs that power. So for my application, the cost definitely justifies getting these motors if I repower. Also, I currently have 2005 mercury verado 250s on my boat; does anybody know how many hours I should expect from these motors, I do all of the required maintenance as soon as it’s needed and I take care of them very rigorously. Thanks and stay safe! 😁😁

      Depending on how old the engines are. For the speed try and clean the pitot sensor hole that is in the front of the lower unit.
      Then the mpg, thats odd, those aren't related but if you have twins it should be at least reading one engine 🤔

    • @x219c
      @x219c 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@BornAgainBoating @Bs106I know this is 8 months old and you've likely fixed this..., but maybe this helps someone else. MPG is Miles Per Gallon. It's calculated by taking the fuel usage and dividing it by the distance the boat has gone. You need to know the speed to know the distance traveled. My guess with the MPG reading being gone is because without the computer knowing the speed, it can't figure out the miles of MPG... Thus, no reading. You can likely still see the GPH reading without the speed. Your solution should fix both issues. :-)

      A horsepower change without a prop change is pointless. More hp same prop yields higher top rpm and mph. Change the propane optimize it for fuel economy and both combinations should yield very close fuel burn with slightly more speed and faster to plane to the larger engines. Props make all the difference on a boat. 4 blades have worked very good in our testing.
