I just wanted to say thank you for the video! I fixed my own refrigerator! I have to admit I was a little scared that I was going to break the tray on the bottom when I first started, but I found by pulling out the right side first it came right out! The only difference I had from the refrigerator on the video and mine was that a thin wire bus was connected to the cover and it pulled out when I took the cover off. Since my cover has lights in the buttons for the ice and water etc., I knew that the wire bus had to be connected. So when I put it all back together I pushed the thin wire bus back in making sure that the side with the metal connectors were touching the other metal connectors in the printed circuit board. It workes perfect! No issues! I found the water actuator part for my refrigerator on Amazon for only $20 something dollars so I saved a lot of money. Thank you again!

Good job! I have the same model, I think, but I’ve been too nervous to try to disconnect the ribbon cable from the front piece. Glad to hear that, if they do come apart, it won’t be the end of the world (unless I tear the ribbon cable or something). Thanks for the tip!

Just wanted you guys to know that this video STILL helps people! Like another fellow who posted here about 4 years ago, my actuator has a ribbon cable and lights in the actuators, but the hard part is what you’ve shown here. I’ve consulted your video TWICE now for two different replacements for the water actuator, so thank you times two!

For those who have the problem with the disconnected water hose... what worked for me was cutting a medium weight wire clothes hanger (not a cheap wire one you get from the dry cleaner but a good heavy one) I bent a slight curve in it, inserted it through the opening the water tube needs to be inserted through, then up a ways into the tube. I used that to guide the tube into the slot as I pushed the housing back into place. I was surprised to see that it guided it through like a charm!

Oh my Gosh!!! I did it! Ours has been broken for 2 years and we were told that we had to get a whole new door, for the broken plastic part on the actuator. After seeing your video, I ordered the part. Ours required an extra step, and I had a couple bobbles, but I still did it! Thank you so much. :)

Very helpful video. I just want to share a point that I experienced with our fridge:
For the first wiring plug that was removed, on ours there was no actual plug. Pulling up on a retainer where the wire "ribbon" plugs into the door control panel allowed that ribbon to be released. To reconnect it though, I found it easier to remove that white panel from the door by removing 5 screws, lifting that retainer, sliding in the ribbon, and pushing the retainer back down.

I used this to get an idea of how to replace 241685701 actuator. It’s pretty similar, but there are wires for the LEDs. Because of those wires, you can’t keep the water tube attached AND remove the old wires, they are just too tangled in the PCB assembly. You can cut the wires or pull the water tube out of the PCB assembly. I pulled the water tube out. It’s not fun getting it back in, but I was able to jam a small screwdriver into the tube and feed the screwdriver back into the hole the tube goes into.
The other thing that is different is that the ribbon cable between the button panel and PCB assembly did not have an attached connector that can be easily removed and reconnected. My Frigidaire had a press fit connection that utilized a retaining clip. I had to remove the button PCB from the plastic front face and carefully place the ribbon cable in the connector and put the retaining clip into place. It was doable, but took some dexterity.

The instructions are really good. I've had to do this 2x now. The 2nd time the actuator SPRING got knocked out of it's position. Let me tell you, without unhooking the hose, it can be a real PAIN getting the spring back in place. if you look at the video the springs straight end is the longer end and is creating tension on the actuator. So it seemed really puzzling that the other end is latched in place has a hooked end?! I didn't find any instructions on youtube or the web on putting it back in place. After a lot of trial and error, and pulling the whole section down(so I could see the latch), I was able to see that if you slide the hook end under the latch(which is open on one side) you can turn the spring in place. This will hold the spring in place while you put the new actuator in place. My model is slightly different than the video where the 2 screw side, one of the screws is replaced with a post instead!? SO coming in from the bottom where you don't have to unhook the hose is quite difficult. Good luck!!

The video was very helpful! You should caution about the ribbon connector to the front panel circuit board --- if not oriented properly when reinstalled the system will play dead and nothing will work. Mine would insert either way but the contacts on the ribbon must face the contacts on the female connector. Then everything worked fine.

For a loose water line get a metal cloths hanger and untwist it. Cut off the hook leaving only the twisted part at the top. Feed it into the dispenser hole then into the water line for about 4 to 5 inches. Reattach the dispenser with the cloths line hanging out. Now pull the hanger causing the water line to come through. Carefully pull the rest of the hanger out
It took me 2 tries. 😄

If you have a ribbon cable (which is flat) connected to the escutcheon, rather than a wire cable as shown in the video it is removed by sliding out the locks on either side of the connection. When reinserting the ribbon cable after replacing the actuator be sure the metal terminals are facing up, slide in with the locks pulled out and lock in place by sliding them back in. With the power restored, you will see green light lit.

Re inserting water tube is a pain. I used a double pointed scribe “the hook side” . Heated up tip, poked/melted hole from the outside of tube, then fished it through, again using hook side of scribe from the outside. Scribe hook was narrow enough to fit. Also rubbed cooking oil on tube to help slide.

Great video, very helpful. I too, with your help, was able to replace the actuator in minutes. HOWEVER, when I plugged the system back in, water sprayed everywhere. At first, I thought I might have a mechanical issue, so I disassembled it for an inspection. Everything looked good. But plugged it back in, water everywhere. So now I suspect an electronics issue. Any thoughts? Anything that would need a reset to fix this issue? Thanks much for any advice you can provide.

The water dispenser problem started with water leaking after every dispense. Then yesterday morning I got up to see water leaking continuously all over the kitchen floor and leaked thru the ceiling of my basement. I removed the water filter cartridge to sever the water connection. How do I get this issue fixed and what parts will I need.

My ice dispenser works, but often I have to push it really hard and it might click on and off. Seems like something is not "making contact." Any idea what that might be and if you sell the needed replacement part(s)? Note that the ice maker and water dispenser work just fine... Thanks.

I have whirlpool refrigerator model # ED5FVGXWS00. I stay in apartment and when main water supply is turned off for maintenance in apartment it has water leak from refrigerator water dispenser. I changed “dispenser water tube kit” and “water valve” but it did not fix this issue. I ran 4 gallon of water to remove all air bubble but it didn't help. Finally I changed water valve as well and that didn't help. Any suggestion on how to fix this issue. Once water main water supply is turned on there is small leak (half glass of water in a day) but it’s big amount of leak when main water supply is turned off for apartment maintenance

Don't accidentally remove the water line! It's horrible to try to hook back up. A suggestion if you do- tie a "noose" around the water line with fishing line. Then feed the line back thru dispenser orifice. Pull like hell and steer the line with a needle nose pliers. It worked for me.

The actuator on my whirlpool is stuck in the "pushed-down" state. No water is coming out but if I push it forward or backwards with my hand, nothing happens either. Any tips on how to troubleshoot this? I'm assuming it's been disconnected somewhere at the top but can't see anything that would indicate so

    • @partselect
      @partselect  10 ปีที่แล้ว

The actuator usually makes a click type noise when the it connects to the fridge micro switch. Remove the dispenser control panel verify that the actuator contacts the dispenser switch properly. If it doesn't then inspect actuator housing bracket, switch mounting bracket and the actuator pivot. If any of those parts are faulty then they should be replaced. If the actuator is contacting the switch, you will need to check the micro switch or control board (if your model has a control board). Let us know how you make out. If you need more help then please provide the model number.

The actuator should not be loose. Check to see if the spring is properly engaged with the actuator arm, and also that the retaining screws are tight.

The hose disconnected at the dispenser end. Any pointers on how to reconnect?

Nick Smith Carefully insert it into the opening and then feed it through until it is flush with the nozzle. You can also fashion a piece of insulated 10 or 12 gauge wire and insert an inch or more into the end of the tubing to help prevent kinks.

***** Thanks for the reply! One more question - so the 10-12 gauge wire could be used as an extension? Because the tube is short, and it's very difficult to reach the nozzle.

BEWARE! This is detailed but doable except for one critical step. Reconnecting the water tube. It's nearly impossible to do the repair without removing it, by the way. Don't overestimate your ability to perform this one critical step. Everything else went with no problem, even though my model wasn't EXACTLY the same inside as the demo. But the water tube is stiff, short and just does not want to be reinserted. I have tried everything at this point, except for going and getting someone to help. Two pairs of hands will help! So would a head lamp. Your hands are busy, but you need some light on the subject. OH yes, you WILL need those needlenose pliers, the needlier the better. So I am fully installed except for the water tube. Next I am about to look for some kind of fitting on the end of the tube to make it longer, tapered and more flexible.

+Eve Waterhouse OK, that worked. Should've tried it two hours ago. Here's what happened. Went to the hardware store, bought a 12" piece of nice clear flexible hose that fit snugly inside the current water tube. With this, it was a piece of cake to feed to hose through. Reconnected everything and pressed the actuator and ... water was seen trying to force its way down the pipe. Alright, I thought, snip it at the end, but before I did, I tugged slowly and steadily on the smaller exposed length of tube and whaddaya know, it pulled the correct water tube into place. Success!

Hi Amy, on the control board behind the dispenser there are two input connectors that the dispenser wire harnesses connect to. Please see the following link for the input connectors' location circled in red. i.imgur.com/DWYTjrf.png Hope this helps! Best of luck with your repair!

Whoever did the closed-captioning should find another line of work, at least for English videos. There are far too many typos (or plain misunderstandings) for an otherwise good video from an ostensibly professional source.
