I know this video is a few years old, but I wanted to give you a HUGE Thank You! Our hose cracked and started leaking. My husband decided that meant time to replace the entire fridge. I'm so glad I found this video! It was so helpful and easy for me to follow. The new hose cost a whopping $3.73 and took me about 15 minutes to replace. Thanks SO much!
This was awesome. I am a 61 year old single female and this was the perfect video. Got it all fixed...and all it cost was the $3.57 tubing from Home Depot. Good job!
It was so great to find your video recently. My fridge's water dispenser tubing was old and brittle, and finally it cracked at the curve at the end of the spout, leaving me the choice of doing without filtered water, or to have it repaired for a ton of money. Your video granted me a THIRD option: fix it myself! Well, I never would have succeeded in figuring this out on my own, in fact I would have ruined the fridge in the process. I played the video a couple of times (it is really well done, guys), then purchased the tubing, and had it completely fixed in less than an hour. I'm relieved and extremely grateful to you.
We have a Kenmore 'fridge; the water line gave out. I found this video, followed it closely, got the tubing at Lowe's for $1.22 and got the job done. Great help! Thanks!

He is clearly not a computer in my hand generation. He actually knows words in his head and someone taught him how to pronounce them. So rare in younger folks….
Thank you. This video was very informative and extremely helpful. I’d like to add a little hint that helped me feed the waterline. Because the kit I bought comes with the nipple attached, I was forced to feed the water line through from the top. After struggling with trying to get the line to come out the bottom door hinge fitting, I pulled it back out and snipped a bit off the line at about a 45 degree angle which gave it a point. Then I was able to feed it down all the way through with no problem. Then I recut the line at 90 degrees and reattached the line at the fitting. Good luck to all you Do-it-your-sellers like me!
When you say that the kit you bought came with "the nipple attached", do you mean that the top end where the water comes out is a rubberlike and angled nipple, and seems to be very sitting very tight? I just cant pull it out, it seems totally fastened.
If the only thing broken is the tube (as was mine), buy it separately at a big box store. I just bought mine for 4.98 at Menards rather than buy a 'repair kit' online for $50 or more. It's sold as "refrigerator water line for ice and water dispensers". 1/4 in OD. I was shocked...it really was as easy as this video shows. Thanks!!
Just wanted to say how much I appreciate your help. I knew what the problem was but had no idea how simple the repair was thanks to you. This video probably saved me $200.00 if I had called an appliance repair if i could have found one. I would like to add that it should be criminal to use the garbage plastic tubing they use on all refrigerators. how many floors have been ruined by pin holes that just developed in this tubing obviously by design. Thanks again

THANK YOU for such an informative video. I am a 59 year old disabled woman and do not have the money to spend on a service call or repair. I have successfully repaired my Whirlpool Refrigerator with the information you have shared. Sincerely, Tea
I've used this video twice so far. So helpful. Thanks very much! Note: make sure you push the line into the connector all the way. First time I didn't have it all the way in and leaked . You'll feel it kind of " soft snap" all the way in.
9 years later this helped me fix my Kenmore fridge today with this same problem! I guess that poly tube can only take so much twisting each time the freezer is opened/closed. Great job! Don't ever take down this video!
Thank you for this well-executed video. I thought I was toast when I found the water leak coming from that hose that goes up inside the freezer door. I had a bit of a struggle taking the face plate off from the front of the fridge, but once removed, the rest was a breeze. Sure enough, there was a crack in the old water line. Put the new one in and everything works like new!
Thanks so much. I have that exact same refrigerator and had leak from tubing as it enters the freezer door. I followed your great instructions and got it fixed in no time. very grateful. thank you
You are awesome Steve! I wish I'd seen this before I twice repaired the line where it broke- right at the pivot / hinge on the bottom of the door. Once with a quick connect coupler, once with a compression union. Now I will have more faith in manufacturers- I always figured they would make everything hard to fix and I'd have to pull the whole inner door lining or something. Parts Select is now my go-to for online parts. Thanks again!
Thanks so much for this video! I ordered my water line from Amazon and installed it using Steve's instructions. It worked perfectly! Thanks for saving me the money I would have had to pay a repairman.
Perfect Steve! I had the water feeder tube accidently pushed up inside the panel and I needed to reset it. When I contacted Frigidaire's Technical Service Department they couldn't (or wouldn't) help me. Your video was perfect!! Well done....you also saved me minimum $80 service call that actually took me 10 minutes to fix.
Instantly works a must to follow steps shown👌 Took 20 mins very happy 😊 Many thanks to you for an expert video with clear instructions. YOU SIR... are a blessed person who kindly shares your knowledge with others. In a time of economic hardship globally. You save many people money and put a smile on faces. Thanks to you I am absolutely delighted today.
Thank you so so much for this video we got our refrig used and did not have a book on it we had to take off the doors to bring it inside one we did so we could not figure out why the water would not work your video show us that we had broke the tube on the door and now we know how to replace it ... Again thank you !!! Heather Martinez
This video was absolutely perfect! I was able to change my filter hose quickly and confidently after watching this video just once. Thanks so much for the work. I bought the four feet of replacement hose at Ace Hardware for just sixty cents.
Many thanks to you sir. I am a working mom and try to fix things myself by learning from TH-camrs like you. I just pulled up the tube from the top for water dispensing due to the broken end tube. It worked perfectly. God blessed you.
I didn´t think of that until after I replaces the entire line. But I left a little length on the bottom in case I need to do that in the future. Good idea.
This was a great video. It helped me save $200 to $350 dollars. I only spent $3.27 for the water line tube and i bought a 99 cent knife cutter. I'm so happy to say as a women i did it all by myself 😁
There couldn’t have been any better guide through this process than you! Thank you for your precise instructions for every single step along the way. My toughest part of the job was getting the cover off at the very start. After that, everything was a piece of cake. I’m so grateful for your help. Five stars⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
I just wanted to thank you for your informative video. I have the exact model that you replaced the line on, and I have been afraid to tackle it myself. Seeing how easy it was I tried it, and it worked exactly how you showed on your video. I have been without the water line for about 1 year lol. The Light bulb by the water line dried it out, and it got brittle. I have since replaced the incandescent bulb with a cooler burning L.E.D. bulb. Thanks again, I appreciate your help! Dean F.
Thank you! I was thinking I'd have to take the entire door apart to replace a cracked water line. This was a ridiculously easy fix after watching this video.
This video was very helpful to me even though I have a slightly different set up with my Maytag Model MSD2656DEB french-door refrigerator. I had to repair or replace the rubber actuator pad in the drink dispenser and in the process, the end of the waterline just broke off. It was badly degraded and I was not being heavy-handed. I tried using the water dispenser after the repair, and although the actuator pad now worked, the water was no longer coming out in a single stream and was making a mess. I found this video and tried both pushing and pulling on the plastic line- both from above and below at the hinge, it would not budge. Reluctantly, I decided to remove the freezer door gasket and plastic door liner. Before I did this, I removed the frozen food from the door and put it in another freezer in the garage, but I just took some plastic sheeting and masking tape and made a barrier to "seal off" the main compartment. Once I removed the inner door molded plastic liner, I could see the problem. The waterline came up between a large block of styrofoam and the inside of the door. It then made a 180 deg curve over the top of the styrofoam and then penetrated a hole in the middle of the styrofoam block and was routed downward toward the dispenser unit. Naively, I had envisioned the waterline coming up through some kind of channel that would allow it to be easily removed and re-inserted like in this video. But this was NOT the case in my model refrigerator. There is NO WAY that pulling or pushing on the waterline would remove it without breaking the waterline or possibly destroying the styrofoam block. It was fairly easy to remove the old line with the door apart (I did not remove it from its hinges). I had purchased some new tubing (by the foot, since Maytag no longer makes the replacement kit) and it was very easy to remove the other end of the old waterline from the push-in coupling and then run in the new line from the bottom. I just retraced the path of the old line and then brought it down into the water dispenser unit. With a sharp blade, I cut both ends to the needed length and inserted the lower end into the quick connect coupling. This repair took about 2 hours. As best I could determine, this job would have cost about $350 for a repairman to do it in my area- but that is a compendium of estimates. This was not a difficult repair but it was a bit "labor-intensive" to remove the freezer door gasket and liner. I used a battery-powered screwdriver to remove the screws, but re-installing them required doing it by hand. I can highly recommend using an ice pick (or scribe) to align the gasket, door liner, and the holes in the metal door. I started a couple of screws on all four sides before tightening them down so as to get the spacing and alignment started properly. Another caveat: When I went to repair the actuator pad, it looked like it was in good condition but seemed to have lost some of its elasticity. Ergo, it would let you depress the limit switch easily but after you removed the glass, the water kept on running. I gave it some thought and remembered the quarter-sized firm foam "spacers" that come at the top of a canister of new blank DVDs or CDs. Usually, there are 4-5 of them on the spindle at the top of the stack of disks. I always save stuff like that and this time it paid off. I inserted two of those slightly spongy rubber "washers" on top of the plastic tooth-shaped plunger inside the actuator pad. These two spacers provided just enough resilience to push the plunger back after being depressed to actuate the dispenser switch. In my trial, I found that 3 spacers were two many, ie, they allowed the water to turn off quickly but you had to press too hard on the glass to initiate water flow. Turns out I did not need a new pad after all. I just needed to re-condition the old one. I think you could improvise and make some spacers out of other spongy rubber material if you don't have any of the DVD case spacers that I described. I hope this helps somebody in that same boat.
I am a manager of studio operations at a graphic design firm full of men. We were going to have to call a repair person when our tubing broke, but then I found this video. A few days later, and we have a functioning water dispenser thanks to the lone woman. I feel so empowered! What needs fixing next??
Excellent instructions! I only want to add that an even simpler solution is to patch the line with waterproof tape. This worked with my 28 year old fridge 😊. The leak will most likely occur near the bottom of the door, where the line is flexed each time the door opens.
Heyyyyy!!! You save my Life!!!! Thanks. I have so much problems to find how to repair the water dispenser. Was a very little problem, but how to initiate, your instructions was I looking for. Somebody in my home with good intentions may be try to clean the dispenser, and move the pipe to inside. Thank you!!!! Good tutorial.
my dad had to repair that for the last year... last month they gave me the job... I search everywhere EXCEPT the obvious (AKA Utube). NEVER thought I'll find a better tutorial ! My only advice to all... watch it all before you start ! I kinda skip the beginning and was stupid enough to forget to unplug it... *blush*
Hi Steve, this video helped me tremendously.I was I was trying to get a the refrigerator late evening into the house and it would not fit through the door. thanks to the video I didn't mess it for refrigerator thank you so much
Perfect!!! I hit a few small snags about half way of pushing my line up through the door. But, like he says, simply pull back a few inches and twist it around. It will go through! Thanks again!!
Glad I found this video 1st. Off to replace the water tube. Thank You. I'm back and that was easy. Only the dispensing end had broken off so I pulled 3 inches up from the bottom and closed it all back up.
I have this similar fridge and seeing all the comments kept me hopeful. I followed all the steps but it seems there is something lodged in the middle of the area you put the tube in. No matter what I do it won’t go through, gets about halfway and stops. I might just get a new fridge at this point. Thanks for the video!
Thank You for showing this! I just needed to know how to get plastic bezel or what ever it's called off without breaking it. I needed to clean around the ice dispenser and general area. Mold loves to grow around these things and after looking up and also using my phone to take a picture I didn't think I would ever use the ice dispenser again. They sure could make cleaning these things a lot easier if they had people that used the appliances help design them!!!
Great video, Steve! I was skeptical about feeding the new line from the bottom and have it come out at the dispenser area, but it worked like a champ, with no issues. Thanks for taking the mystery out of removing the front assembly and getting to that area on my Whirlpool.
Very well done video. I should now be able to tackle the replacement of the water dispenser micro-switch, as you've shown how to properly get to things. Thanks!
Thank you verry helpfull! I was just wondering how would it be possible for me to fully clean the waterline inside the refrigerator. Mine has not worked for months...
This video was very helpful even for a refrigerator of a different brand an construction, all the basics are here so I am very please to find I could repair my old cracked waterline myself.
Thanks! Great video, clear and logical and informative--one of the best "how to" videos I've ever seen. Like so many others, I watched your video and then replaced the broken tubing in a few minutes with no sweat at all.
Thank you very much for your video. I am very sure we all found this video is helpful and solved our problems with the water line replacement. Great tutorial video.
Great video, straight forward and easily done. I'm glad I came across your video. Was trying to figure out how to replace that hose. I had thoughts of removing the freezer panel inside. Saved alot of w,ork, helps when you know what your doing lol!!
Thank you Steve so much for a outstanding how to video 👍🏻 just repaired the water line on my boats refrigerator today 😁and saved us lots of $$$$$$. Freash cold filtered water is a must on a fishing boat 😁.
Congratulations for the good work, clarifies and shows doubts that I have. I have a LG side by side refrigerator, model LR-21sdt3, can I pull and pass the water tube easily as a sample? Thank's!
Thank you so much for taking the time to create this video! Going to do this job today. However, my line has the anti-drip valve, so it MUST be fed from the top (not the bottom). Hope it goes well! :)
Hello! Thank you very much for making this video. I just did the repair at the moment in my refrigerator, I do not have a Wirpoold I have an Electrolux, but anyway I used your video a lot. Greetings from Argentina. ----------- ¡Hola! Muchas gracias por hacer este video. Acabo de hacer la reparación en éste momento en mi heladera, no tengo una Wirpoold tengo una Electrolux, pero de todos modos me sirvio mucho tu video. ¡Saludos desde Argentina!
hi,Thanks for your clear explanation of Airflow in a Refrigerator. I have one rather important question I would like to ask. Your Airflow where does the Air come from. Is it normally a Close Loop System where the Air is constantly re-circulated by the Evaporator Fan in the Fridge, or is Fresh Air Intake going on so that the Evaporator Fan is constantly pulling Fresh Air from the Outside and blowing it through the Evaporator Coils inside the Fridge. Also if it is not a close Loop System and the Fresh Air is constantly being sucked in from outside , is it vented out as it is recirculated inside and replaced by a fresh stream of air. Thanks
My hose was cracked just at the very tip of the hose, so I just fed more line through another job Well done thanks much for the video I wouldn’t of known how to do that.
Hello and thank you for this excellent video. I have a LG GWL207FLQA fridge/freezer. I can follow your instructions until one point: On my LG the water dispenser at the top end of the waterline is not the tube itself that comes out, but a grey rubber thingy, which seems to be unmovable - maybe even unreplacable. Is this so, or can someone point me to a vidoe that addresses this type of dispenser?
Thank you for the great video, clear and precise explanation. I do have a question though, when I pull on my water tube from the top of dispenser I’m getting a lot of resistance, may it be due to ice build up? I’m afraid to pull it out. The fridge I have is a Frigidaire, thanks.
Thanks for your question. I wouldn't recommend pulling to hard on the water tube, as you could do damage. My advice would be to try to wiggle it out the best you can, or perhaps use a small flat blade screwdriver to try to pry it out. I hope this helps with your repair!
There is an error in your video. The position of the old tube in the bracket at 4:43 of the video is not the same as the position of the new tube at 5:16. The new position shown will lead to poor aim of the water stream when the water dispenser is used. I cut the new water tube at a sharp angle before threading it through the door from the bottom. This helped to get it past some invisible obstacles in the door. No neet to trim the tube end after it is threaded - the angle helps the water flow into the glass.
I can't get the new line pushed through the door. It's stuck on some ridges or something inside the tube. I've twisted it all around for an hour, but no luck. Is there a way to get the plastic housing behind the dispenser out so I can see what's sticking? The screws clearly aren't the only thing holding it in place, as that doesn't loosen it at all. Is it glued on?
Thank you so much, it was wonderful tutorial… Very clear and concise, so easy explanation. My pleasure, sir, 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻, thank you, God bless you.😊💐💝
Thanks...this was very helpful! I was thinking I'd have to disassemble the freezer door to replace the waterline...thanks for showing how easy it is!!! :-)
Are all water lines the same? Like is there a standard size? I went to home depot and found several widths. It seemed like the smallest (circumference) would work, however I'm reluctant to take out the existing line with me in order to see if its a match. Our current water line works just fine, but it looks a little gross and the water tastes off. I don't have easy access to the back of the fridge, so pumping vinegar through to clean it seems harder than just replacing the line entirely (or well at least the segment in the video).
In our experience, it's a good idea to ensure that the water line you're purchasing is the correct part for your model refrigerator. Let us know if you need help finding one!
Hi John, I tired researching your model number and I am not able to pull up any information. Could you please double check the model and serial number for your refrigerator. Thank you.
8 years later and you're video is helpful. Maybe even more now that these fridges are older so probably many of us needing to do this. I am right now.

Thanks soooo much. My wife wanted me to call a repair man but after watching your easy to follow video I did it myself with no worries
Excellent instructions! I only want to add that an even simpler solution is to patch the line with waterproof tape. This worked with my 28 year old fridge 😊. The leak will most likely occur near the bottom of the door, where the line is flexed each time the door opens.
This dude is awesome. Straight and to the point. Thank you and God bless
*blush*
This is a great video because the views are detailed and clear, and the presenter is very well spoken. A big thank you for this!
Thank you! Thank you! thank you. I did it. the most easiest replacement in the world. I walked around like a proud peacock after completing this task.
That fridge looks like it was used as a prop on Dexter with the splattered gunk. Great video. Thanks for taking the time.
Glad I found this video 1st. Off to replace the water tube. Thank You.
I'm back and that was easy. Only the dispensing end had broken off so I pulled 3 inches up from the bottom and closed it all back up.
Thank you for your help, I replaced the water line after watching your video. thank you again.
I have this similar fridge and seeing all the comments kept me hopeful. I followed all the steps but it seems there is something lodged in the middle of the area you put the tube in. No matter what I do it won’t go through, gets about halfway and stops. I might just get a new fridge at this point. Thanks for the video!
Do you have to shut off the water supply valve to the fridge first?
Hi Cindy. Yes, it's usually a good idea whenever you're working around the water line to shut off the water supply before you begin the repair!
An excellent video, which has taken away all the guess work that takes place trying to fix a water line. Thank you very much!
Thank you a lot. Your videos helped me fix my fridge. Now it is like a new fridge
Thank you for this helpful video. I just changed the water hose on my Whirlpool refrigerator after watching your video. I gave it a thumbs up.
Great video, Steve! I was skeptical about feeding the new line from the bottom and have it come out at the dispenser area, but it worked like a champ, with no issues. Thanks for taking the mystery out of removing the front assembly and getting to that area on my Whirlpool.
Awesome instructions, had the repair made in 10 mins thanks to this video
Very well done video. I should now be able to tackle the replacement of the water dispenser micro-switch, as you've shown how to properly get to things. Thanks!
Thanks for the kind words! We hope this video helps with your repair!
We came here to learn from the expert and save money. Thank you for your tutorial video.
Do i need to close water before we replace the dispenser?
Couldn’t get water dispenser tubing without back order in Canada, used air brake tubing 56” worked great.
Needed to know because I got this used and it was really dirty! Now I can clean or buy new!! Thank you
Great video. Very easy to understand for someone like me who isn’t that mechanically adept. Thank you!
Great video, straight forward and easily done. I'm glad I came across your video. Was trying to figure out how to replace that hose. I had thoughts of removing the freezer panel inside. Saved alot of w,ork, helps when you know what your doing lol!!
do u have to shut the water line off first? i didnt hear him indicate that?
Thank you Steve so much for a outstanding how to video 👍🏻 just repaired the water line on my boats refrigerator today 😁and saved us lots of $$$$$$. Freash cold filtered water is a must on a fishing boat 😁.
Great video. Is there a generic name for the tubing to ask for at the hardware store?
Great video. I was about to take the door apart! I live in Chile, so parts are not that simple to get. What is the diameter of the tube? 1/4?
Thanks so much!!!! Doo you think it will work the same with an LG?
One of the best instruction videos. You made the job easy. Thanks to you!
Thanks! This helped me repair a damaged water supply line into my Kenmore refrigerator.
Awsome video. Would anyone have a part number for that b racket that holds the hose ?
Hello! Thank you very much for making this video. I just did the repair at the moment in my refrigerator, I do not have a Wirpoold I have an Electrolux, but anyway I used your video a lot. Greetings from Argentina.

THANK YOU VERY MUCH FOR POSTING THIS. THANKS TO U, I WAS ABLE TO REPAIR MY FAMS FRIDGE. THANK U THANK U.THANK U! U ARE A BLESSING.
Excellent video only wished it would be for ge-side by side. I have this problem and on ge side by side it is a little different. Please help.
hi,Thanks for your clear explanation of Airflow in a Refrigerator.
Thanks for the great video- $5/5 minutes and our fridge was fixed!
I’m so glad I found your video!!! Thank you.
Ditto to all the good comments here. Perfect fix. Thx !
Hugely helpful and instructive video. Thank you, Sir!
Thanks for catching that. You helped me out today.
Thank you! You saved us time and money. God bless you.
Thank you for the concise instructions. It solved the problem of the leaking water line.
i need to replace the other side of the clip underneath. any vids on that? thnx
I'm so happy I found this video!
Thank you !! Your step by step instructions helped me and were easy to follow.
Excellent video! Helped me repair mine for very little cost! Thank you!
Hi thanks for this video !can you tell me how to take out the front part( with the flat knife ) of model 3XARG484P03 i can not do it
Very clear video! Helped me a lot! Thank you!
You're welcome!
Thank you. I had some trash floating in my water. I changed the line and problem solved
Hi, My LG GR-L247NSS water dispenser tupe has split at the bottom of the door. Can the tube be replaced or is it a new door?
Hi John, I tired researching your model number and I am not able to pull up any information. Could you please double check the model and serial number for your refrigerator. Thank you.
