    This guy is my age. I can’t believe he can still compete with players half of his age and younger. He is a true legend in my eyes. A lot of people retired from office jobs at this age already.

      Short pips rubber is not good for spin , that why he can smash the ball. He is so lucky to retire already. Nowadays, people play with lots of spin and angles. He is no way to keep that up with his footwork.

    Nice compilation! It's actually a very difficult style to play, short pips can be overwhelmed by topspin, and he needs to judge the topspin perfectly or he makes errors into the net or off the table. The other crucial thing is that He has fantastic serves that set him up for a 3rd ball smash. Without great serves, this style is not as effective. Finally, He is a lefty. And he can use that to move players out of position. As soon as that happens, the opponent cannot return/recover his position, and cannot make as strong a shot as normally, and He can then safely dink the ball around with (reliable) off the bounce timing. It's all a lost art now.

    • @pingpongrallyon
      @pingpongrallyon  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yeah this is actually a very efficient and lethal style. Lefty high toss serves wide into the forehand net corner which forces 98% of his opponents to forehand loop cross court, which he can easily push back straight into the backhand for an easy win

    • @mintran
      @mintran 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      He still plays very well against Timo Boll, but I agreed that being a lefty with effective serve is a huge advantage.

    He may not make top ranking these days due to age, style, rubber etc but in his hay days, he must be very lethal. However, sad to see such talent not able to hold a spot on the Chinese national team back then. China just has too many brilliant players with incredible forms and styles. Ironically, ITTF keeps finding/changing many ways/rules/regulations to reduce the Chinese stronghold in this sport without much success. But if you look at the number of registered/unregistered amateurs/professional players in China, you'll realize they are wasting time, LoL.

    • @pingpongrallyon
      @pingpongrallyon  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      that's why you see all of these Chinese imports playing for various countries where they hold citizenships. It's easier to dominate and play and compete for the new country than in China. Look at Gao Jun of USA, Feng Tianwei/Gao Ning/Li Jiawei of Singapore, Kaii Yoshida/Kan Yo/Chan Kazuhiro of Japan, and many many more.

    • @Steevy84
      @Steevy84 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@pingpongrallyon They maybe should get inspiration from grand slams in tennis, where they don't look at representing every country, just the best ranked players are allowed to play.

    • @matmagix3845
      @matmagix3845 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@Steevy84 problem is that China has such great depth so much the ITTF must limit the number of representatives in the rankings system. Lots of people play table tennis and they can easily train top tier players from every province - some of whom can definitely challenge or even beat Chinese National Team players. The Chinese National Team can only support a certain fixture of players. Interestingly Beijing 2008 was the last time the Olympics allowed there to be more than two singles players per nation for individual competition. In that edition, CHN did a clean sweep (Ma Lin won gold, Wang Hao silver and Wang Liqin bronze), and since then the rules have changed so CHN can at best earn gold and silver, but not all three medals for individual singles medals. In some ways perhaps it is perhaps a good thing that ITTF is not all just Chinese players. Think of Quadri Aruna as a very neat example, being a Nigerian, and first African player to crack the top 10 - while having a handful of brilliant wins against Chinese opponents.
      I did hear of one notable case where a CNT female player decided to change her representation. He Zhili married a Japanese man and changed her name to Chire Koyama, also swapping her national representation to that for JPN. In one event, she defeated CHN's best three players, including Deng Yaping, who was the dominant player of the 90s, which caused a stir as she was accused of betraying her country. He Zhili though had some history with the CNT that impacted her decision to leave CHN. In 1987, she was told by her coaches to deliberately lose to her compatriot in the SF of the World Table Tennis Championships because they thought her compatriot had a better chance of beaten the waiting finalist, a Korean player. He Zhili defied those orders and beat her compatriot then also defeated her Korean opponent. Even so, the Chinese team coaches were not pleased about her disobedience and she was not drafted into the Olympic team in 1988. medium.com/@Arghk/the-og-of-tt-73c633a0e991

  • @882828jc
    @882828jc 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    The solution is counter attack instead of return the shot and promote him to attack you more. People are so dumb ,or what? Instead he make you run, why don't you return the shot where he can't attack anymore and make him run ? Take a look again of all the matches as above.

    • @pingpongrallyon
      @pingpongrallyon  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      it's easier to loop crosscourt than forehand down the light if He were to do a high toss close to net serve. The distance between the contact point of the paddle and the rest of the open forehand is quite short. If power and spin are not properly managed, the return loop can easily go out of bounce.

  • @dalerudder5606

    Great player....but almost every single one of his serves are hidden/illegal. He never removes his non-playing hand and that always catches the opponent off guard. Nonetheless...brilliant short-pips player.

    • @pingpongrallyon
      @pingpongrallyon  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I'd say those are boarder line illegal at the very worst. He always removes his tossing arm out of the way. And i'm certain players coaches and umpires would have faulted him many times had he actually have illegal serves.
