David Carr on Technology & Media

The New York Times media columnist and cultural reporter David Carr discusses new technology and its affect on traditional news media. David is in discussion with Clara Jeffery, co-editor of Mother Jones magazine. For journalism and the news industry, technology takes away with one hand while giving with the other. Free online classified sites and the decline of print advertising have forever altered the industry's business model, and bloggers and aggregators relentlessly repackage reporters' hard-won scoops and stories. But the digital tools of the Web 2.0 era have also quickly ushered in a golden age of storytelling, providing access to video, multimedia, and original documents that contextualize stories in ways unheard of a decade ago. David meets technology's transformation of journalism head on, probing how news organizations will pay for original reporting despite declining coffers, and championing how digital tools open storytelling frontiers.
