Head Gasket Replacement Mercedes-Benz 500SL 1991 R129 M119

Head gasket replacement on my 1991 Mercedes-Benz 500SL R129 M119 engine. Did the replacement with no fancy tools or equipment. Super challenging project but completely do-able if done carefully.

Complicated to say the least, but I have seen far worse to replace a sensor under the intake manifold on a Audi !

So funny hey. Just watching it out of interest as I’m doing mine. I had to fish for the little accelerator piece too as it fell underneath the same way! Good work mate. Next time take intake and wiring away first then go to the cams. It’ll save you a lot of swearing to get to bolts 😢😂

Great tutorial! I'm about to do my 99 CL 500's head gaskets as well. While I'm at it, I'm gonna do the timing chain too. I'm curious though, why didn't you do the timing chain as well? You had everything off already...

Didn't have the brain power to take off the other side and I couldn't get the crankshaft nut off. I wanted to replace the waterpump but you have to take the crankshaft nut off to do it.

Did you use the old head bolts? There quite expensive and I'm never sure are necessary.

Hey! Have you ever had a **temperature problem** whereas the engine gets off idle at 90°F????
My r129 won't idle and dies if put in gear after reaching 90°F
Any help appreciated!! Mahalo!

Good job but did you find out why your head gasket went to shit ? Look like you have issues with fuel in that cylinder check injectors and fuel distributor 😕
