I just did my first headgasket EVER on M103 3.0 on 1987 300E. The car ran fine but had an external oil leak. Running great now! Just purchased a 93' 190e 2.3 also leaking oil will probably do the head on that. The material is 30+ years what do you expect people!

How much does it cost? Head gasket always brings fear but I guess it’s worth paying for

Please go over the 603s! That's what I'm in the market for. I love the look of the W124s, I'll be going after a W123 next though 😁.

Personal experience with om603 engine. In my case exhaust was pressurizing the cooling system. You can check this if overnight the radiator hoses still are still stiff when the car is cold.
The other way they fail is at the #1 cylinder oil passage. This allows oil to be injected into the cylinder. If enough gets injected, the first cylinder rod will likely get bent. Hence the rod bender nickname.
My understanding is that religious checking of the oil level is key. If you are using about a qt of oil every 1000 miles you should be concerned. Bear in mind, valve guides, seals and external leaks should also be considered in that assessment too. If your engine is otherwise leak free you'll have to be concerned with the internal issues. In my case I had 0 external oil leaks but pressurized cooling system after sitting overnight. Imo the ideal failure.
I had my head gasket done and still have the gasket on my wall of examples. Wish I could post a photo. Failed in several cylinders due to lack of maintenance.
Change coolant out regularly to prevent corrosion. After the change I went to zerex G48 and distilled water. Used MBZ head gasket if I recall.

Hi! I have a w124, M103 engine (2.6). I have changed the head gasket, done a valve job. Now it is not leaking oil anymore, but if I drive it on the highway, because of the high rpm, it consumes a little bit of oil. I have done an oil change almost 4000 kilometers ago, and now my engine oil level beloved max, heading to the half of the dipstick. Could be the oil rings on the cylinder heads?

I tried this one friend. Didn't work for me at all, I changed the head gasket and that did the trick. The material cracks and leaves small gaps for oil to escape. It was my first head gasket and wasn't too difficult. Good luck, don't let the job scare you.

@@livin4today132 The front timing chain cover leaks oil and so does the camshaft seal right into the distributor. I replaced the seal and MB forums told me to use Hylomar Blue to seal the front timing chain cover. Maybe its just the front timing chain cover, check if the headgasket leak is leaking down the block under the freezer plugs. Mine was out after 200,000kms
