I'm amazed that they were able to get Tommy Lee Jones to reprise his role. Either he really loved the role and did for cheap or got a nice payday out of it.

If only they payed him to voice the action figures or if they used his actual voice to give him quotes from the movie
in the Jurassic Park RTS dreamworks made, they had brought back the majority of the main cast, from Jeff Goldblum, Julianne Moore, Vince Vaughn, Richard Schiff, Richard Attenborough and even Vanessa Chester.
Voiced video games were still fairly new, I wouldn't be surprised if part of his contract was to do the game and his agent just wasn;t familiar enough with the new media to negotiate it

This one was has a MUCH more Toy Story feel to it, with the kid playing with the toys, and they get up and interact when people aren't around, unlike the film which had the commandos fearlessly attack humans in the open.
Fun fact, Tommy Lee Jones was actually so into the role of major chip hazard that he actually reprised, his role in most of the video games, including this game and the PS1 game

This was the game that got me into strategy games. Good times.
The supposed background story for this is, is that another town, that had an early release of these toys had this incident happen to them, it's supposed to take place about the same time as the original film and takes place over a week, going past the film eventually. The kid who played with them ended up setting up their basic programming and taught the Gorgonites to learn to be heroes and defenders of peace by playing with them.

How is it that _this game_ is telling a better, more coherent story than the movie it's based on? I'm actually kind of impressed. Rooting for the (non-spineless) Gorgonites to stop the Commandos from conquering the world is legit compelling. It's pretty funny, too.
I agree. This story seems to follow a bit closer to toy story's formula, with the toys playing dummy and coming to life later.
I always thought that this story was an adjacent plot to the movie. Like another town where stores were fully stocked and were on an early sale. People started buying them, and you have a full scale war in this town.
As for why the Gorgonites are brave, according to their in history lore in the playstation games, they are defenders of justice and peace, for a multitude of planets. Why did these ones want to be defenders and the movie one didn't?
I think they only become once they are taught that they can learn to defend themselves and somehow this was instructed on them early, which other gorgonites taught to others.
The way that kid at the beginning was playing with the toys, it seems like people weren’t following the original advertising the toys originally had, and sort of caught on/adopted the concept that the soldiers were the genocidal maniacs and that the aliens were the good guys defending the innocent. Guess word/rumors got out about how the chipped toys behaved or something.
@@theheroneededwillette6964 Sounds good, but to be fair I think even if the toys had walking, talking capabilities, kids will still pick them up and maneuver them. Even in the film version, Christy's brother picked up chip hazard and laid him down dead, while acting out his head canon, then he picked up Kip Killigan. So kids would still maneuver or play with them as such, but the automated walking, talking features were the marketing promises fulfilled.
True, this feels more organized and coherent than the movie did. Too bad the movie couldn't have this kind of depth and heart.

Man, that audio quality doesn't do Tommy Lee Jones voice any favors. It almost doesn't sound like him, but it IS him.

I wish Archer's voice would sound a bit more wiser and deeper like Kevin I forgot his last name but I do know he comes from teenage mutant Ninja turtles when he plays shredder

My god, I remember actually playing this game when I was growing up.
I have fond memories of this game. The gameplay was kinda wonky though. Instead of right click to move it was left click. That was the biggest issue.
