    Very well documented, people forget pride was virtually run by the yakuza

    • @FreePlayMode
      @FreePlayMode ปีที่แล้ว +1346

      Not "virtually", flat out run by the Yakuza. Dreamstage Entertainment (DSE) was a KNOWN Yakuza front. Yamaguchi-gumi to be more specific which is the largest and oldest Yakuza organization in Japan. The problem came in when they started strong arming fighters so blatantly and openly that the police could no longer turn a blind eye.

      @@hyped-up-charlie Rampage never said he took part in any staged fights in Pride FC. However, many of the fights involving guys from NJPW were staged under Antonio Inoki's ownership. He was effectively forced out when DSE came under fire. But a lot of guys like Nakamura, Alberto Del Rio, and a few others were staged as a way to get them over as "legit tough guys".

Dude almost killed Nogueria with a slam, and he legitimately beat Ernesto Hoost... so there was a time he tried. That all changed when Cro Cop broke his orbital bone. After that he completely changed and was all about not getting hurt. That was when he basically started going out and pretending to try, waiting for the first opportunity to go into the fetal position and get the referee to stop it. He was just doing it for a paycheck at that point, but he did fight legitimate before the serious injury he received from Cro Cop, and was formidable.
