I agree with you Villain, the Hawkeye ally is so underrated! He’s an auto include in any of my leadership decks outside of X-Men. Getting that quick damage on minions, or knocking off a tough status opens the hero up a lot more to focus on the villain. He’s probably my favourite leadership ally in the game.
He's soooo good! We've been using him a ton the last few days with Squared Off and (notably more for multi) Come Get Me Bub floating around the card pool.
Maria Hill about to breath more life into these core set cards. Crazy how this game is always additive when they add new content building on whats there where as other games I play notably recent MTG sets feels like they are just replacing and flat out improving existing cards.
@@VillainTheoryMy first ever Marvel Champions purchase was the core set and Wolverine hero pack, and I had a lot of fun with that before buying more stuff!
I still can't believe they didn't do a second core box with the first X-Men wave. I think X-Men on their own injected a fair amount of interest in the game. Still, I think if people could've just jumped in solely with X-Men that would've brought in even more people.
That was very interesting. I came off Daring Lime's take on core & played a ton of She Hulk (updated) & now I have dabbled in Captain Marvel pure core after a long gap. I started the game late in 2019 after I went to the shop to investigate Marvel Crisis Protocol & they gave me this instead. One thing I was made very aware of playing Cap M was how many cards get used as resources. That really decreases the number of good cards you actually NEED in a deck, after all there is that guy who plays every hero with 25 blank cards (one wild resource IIRC). Playing the few really good cards in the deck over & over while spending Lead from the Front was very noticeable. I did get to have an Inspired Vision who I got to First Aid :O Obviously having more good cards makes the decks stronger but often it's mostly just more consistent. Having 6 allies in Leadership does feel way better than 4 especially with 5 being rockstars (love Hawkeye). Another thing they could do with a revised core is change the wording on cards like Superhuman Strength. If they are hard for new players to follow (with the rules changing since they were printed) then change the wording. Another slight non sequitur would be to provide other variant Signature Allies & nemesis sets. I don't think any of the pairings are remotely as iconic as Batman & Robin but most seem super arbitrary& it's weird have the same knock off Catwoman turning up every time I play Spiderman. My limited appreciation would have Rocket & Groot as near the top of Duos & that's not even in the game. The same applies to the villains though given my lack of familiarity I expect there could be some that are really strongly linked (Spiderwoman & Hydra? Black Panther?). This is one that would be easy to house rule.
Thanks guys. You make a great duo. I'll say this about Marvel champions, it's one of the few card / board games that i can say does not lose out to video games. In general, I rather play the digital version of a game. The only reason to play physical games is the social aspect. But with MC, it can pull me away from Elden Ring, Baldur's Gate 3, Rogue Trader, etc... Also feel that way about Mage Knight, Ark Nova, and Too many Bones.
22:16 Shows how chaotic the last week has been, forgot that I sent a question in. But I saw the episode go up and "no! I had so much I would have asked if I had known!"
I started playing from Core Set only times, oddly enough despite this game being Marvel licenced, I just liked the gameplay and fast setup/tear down. Also my experience was that the strongest hero in core set only was Black Panther Leadership, or at least that was the first deck I managed to defeat all villains on expert with, thou I agree he aged the worst I still like how core set heroes feel unique, with different designs, I understand highly experimental heroes can be hit and miss, but I like them the most, like SPdr, and now I am really looking forward to Maria Hill
For me, regarding the core set, I believe Black Panther had (and actually still has) one of the best match-ups with Ultron. Retaliate and Energy Daggers shuts down his drone game completely. But outside of Ultron I put my faith in Captain Marvel. So I can see that, in the core box vacuum, Black Panther having the best match-up with the hardest villain could mark him as the strongest core hero.
I wonder if you kept Parker in a Revised Core Box...would you have him make a choice at "Setup", between Avenger OR Web-Warrior to cover both Factions?
I like this idea but I don't think I do - and this is partially because it is a core box. That kind of choice adds complexity and requires game knowledge to really make use of.
I'll say this forever: Black Panther is OP. Put him with an amazing swarm leadership avenger deck with strength in numbers nick fury and ironheart and really good leadership allys any that draw cards. He is amazing once golden city is out and his gear he becomes unreal. He has a ton a resources and card draw with this deck and BP base stats are just really solid mixed with getting an ally down every turn if ya can to chump or save for a massive Strength in numbers. Possibly a little recursion could help as well possibly make the call or regroup or both. I like hawkeye with counters as well and maria hill is good as well. Stinger as well just cheap blockers so have triskelion maybe avengers tower as well more the better.
Captain Marvel is the only one from the core box that I just find very boring to play. In my opinion, Iron Man is the most fun and satisfying hero out of the box and the other 3 heroes have very strong and very fun builds: Mean Swing and Fusillade Black Panther, Justice Iron Man or Repurpose Iron Man, Limitless Stamina Skilled Strike Hand Cannon aggro She Hulk, and really any build with Spider-Man are all great fun and very strong.

One of the trademarks of LCG's is how well the core set cards hold up over time. MC/AH and LotR still use a lot of core set cards even today.

Wolverine would have been an excellent addition to the core set. I love your idea to have something from every team trait.
Full credit to Nelson for that but I love it too. I can only imagine if they released that box today it would get a lot of interest in the game!

Loved this idea of revisiting the core set! Amazing content once again ❤

Haha! Well it all worked out beautifully
Thank you for the show, love you guys! Legends! ❤😊
Rhino with Osborn Tech from Sinister Motives is awesome.
44:40 😁 Heyo! Thanks yall, another great episode as always! Love the Maria Hill break too 😂 so relatable.
Maaaria! That was crazy. They seem to release hero articles on Shadow of the Cast Thursdays more often that not!
@@VillainTheory they know it’s a good day 😉
Now to patiently wait for Nick Fury’s reveal 😅
Great banter so far this episode, very enjoyable. Thank you!
Glad you enjoyed it
Really digging the monthly username compliment 😂
If you ever want to hide you could rename to DraxWithSnacks. Eating so slowly you become invisible to the eye.
@@VillainTheory hahahaha
New shadow of the cast? YES PLEASE 🎉
My favorite villain is Rhino, really like the ways you can pump him to be a cool villain with different modular encounter sets.
Not needing to buy two starter sets to get enough cards was much better. Drove me crazy with some old FFG games.
Core is great~

He's pretty strong!

Uno Reverse? What aspect is that?
Definitely in the 'Pool aspect
@VillainTheory Lol that legit would be a great 'Pool card.
Only 22 "interesting" this time, down from 66! Good job
I'm entrusting you to stay interested without interruptions.

Under Attack is suppose to be replaced with Modok in Zola in my cannon. Watch the shield set bring them back.
