I was hitchiking down the 1 from calgary up to medcinehat to saskatoon to pa to the pag to timmins then got a grayhound to toronto when i got the city and colour the cd
We played this song at my brothers funeral during a slideshow. He loved City and Colour. He was taken too soon at 21, killed on his motorcycle. This song breaks my heart for him... all the places he planned to travel to and never got to. His life was taken in a city he hated and couldn't wait to leave. He's home now with God and hopefully has awesome views of all the places he never got to see in life. We miss you Matthew. I can't wait to see you again
Even though in life you had desires and you were not content, everything is fulfilled for you now. God has you, and your thirst is quenched in ways you could have never dreamed. Rest easy Matthew.
This reminds me of my best friend, we haven't had contact for almost 10 years and I didn't know he was struggling in life. He played this song for me on acoustic and I found out recently he committed suicide. Always check in with your friends. Don't go too long without making sure they are okay. You never know what they are going through and how much they might need you at any moment.
What a wonderful post. Thank you. Suicide is often a very bad decision at a very bad moment on a very bad day.. and nobody there to notice. I've lost my best friend too, this way. I appreciate your words. ❤️
I'm replying to this 7 years later as this hit home, I grew up during Afghanistan and still vividly remember losing Andrew Grenon in 08 + Mark Diab in 09. It's now 2021 and I've been in the army since 2015, but I'll never forget my motivations to get in.
You hear this song and read some of these comments from 8 years ago, and you wonder how they’re doing and where they’re at. I hope all those who were struggling were able to find some peace. ❤
@@mollymcbutthurtwhat a clown comment from you. Why can’t we just enjoy the beautiful music and the beautiful sentiment from the op? Why bring politics or drama into this? Be better
every time he plays this song live he asks everyone to just focus on the music and to put away the phones and the cameras. and everyone obeys and just listens to him play and its truly magical. I have seen him 3 times and he does it every time.
I know exactly what you're talking about. This is the first time I listen to this song again in like 2-3 years and it brings back feelings of a different time in my life. Where things seemed more complicated and morose. Idk if it's the song or me being dumb lol
I feel the exact same way man..this song literally gets me everytime. i'm going through a lot of life changes at the moment with a lot of very important decisions to make with a multitude of different outcomes. Listening to this song brought tears to my eyes. It speaks to me in such a beautiful away. I feel it in my heart and soul whenever that voice hits my ears
God, when this song came out I was living in Nova Scotia, Doing my practicum. It would come on the radio, I would have to hide because I would cry. I missed my family, I was away from home, I did not drive. I was so lonely. Now I hear it and cry as I am across Canada away. Lonely again. Dallas Green pulls at my heart.
I've had years in recovery and several relapses and the most important thing you need to know is never give up the average person achieves lifelong recovery on their 7th attempt so if you relapse a few times it doesn't mean anything you get right back on that horse
Found this song a decade ago while in depression. This song is soooo much for me. And still 2022 I love it just as much. So many memories and feelings from that time come rushing back. Although they’re not all pleasant, I like to have them to remember what I’ve come out of.
Damn near 20 years cathartically signing “goddamn” every time that lyric “Will it be my heart, or will it be his” meets stone cold silence then meets that echoes through the ages guitar riff. Never fails. Every time. It’s like my existential response to that query. I’ve lived it. I’ve loved it. I’ve lost it.
This song was what my brother played over and over just before he passed from bone cancer a year ago. I love this song it reminds me of him and I love and miss him more than I could have ever imagined. RIP Larry ❤🦋

I just got back here in Florida last week from two months of traveling and exploring the U.S. I've seen beautiful things and met some beautiful people and I was never sure if really ever wanted to come home. I stopped at a open mic coffee shop in Utah and heard a girl play this song with all her heart and soul. I decided right there that I needed to get back home, and that home might not be where my heart is, but its where I was born and raised, its where I learned and loved for 19 years of my life. Coming home just feels good.
I know just how you feel, I went from Jacksonville Florida up the coast to Virginia, then down to Alabama and back through Georgia, took 3 months. Sitting at home having family and friends just a short ride away is a nice feeling.
I recently moved across the country to try to better myself. This song definitely hits me hard. Miss my family, but its what I have to do for a better life.
puts me in tears every time I get to sing "I've seen the palace in London I've seen the castle in whales but is rather wake up beside you and breath that old familiar smell"
This song broke my heart the first time I heard it. Every person who's lived the life of the itinerant can relate. His music still breathes the pain of understanding and loss that is the compromise of modern life. As I sit in Sydney and dream of Halifax. Beautiful and touching music.
I don't know why but every time I listen to this song I just sing with so much emotion. It makes me feel so much empathy, sadness, pain and happiness all at once. This song is so powerful and it just hits home for me. Dallas Green is an angel in disguise 👼💕
