    Tunisian crochet offers the best of knitting and crochet. Toni bought Tunisian crochet out of the dark ages. Tunisian crochet used to be an afterthought in most crochet books. She has made Tunisian crochet hip.

      That's possibly true for America. ❤️ In southern Europe the girls learned it in schools. In the north knitting took over, but it seems it survived well in the Eastern European countries. You can say it's been our secret European craft until Toni exposed it 😂😂😂

    Welcome to my rabbithole. I've been in it for more than 10-15 years 😂
    I always have wips in both knitting, crochet and tunisian. I'd call it hand weaving (or portable weaving), more than a mix between crochet and knitting.😂
    TL yarn crafts is a super inspiration ❤️ One thing Toni doesn't explore much though, is the possibilities of handdyed yarns and using bigger hooks.
    The woven fabric will give handdyed yarn a new life, and if you use an 8mm hook with wolly sock or sports weight, 9mm if you add mohair, it'll give you a light flowy and gorgeous fabric for shawls. (and try a merino with a bit of alpaca on a large hook ❤️ you'll love it!!!) For shawls, you don't want to squeeze the double treads of the return pass through... For other things you might want a more sturdy fabric. Experiment ❤️
    Tunisian crochet seems to have been an old European craft that never made it to the US 😂 It's so portable. Just bring a ball of yarn and your hook, and you can work anywhere ❤️ Have fun
    (One small tip, when deciding needle size for a yarn: use the first 10 stitches of your cast-on, and make 10 fast rows, to see what fabric you produce. The yarn inside the stitches fill out more and more, when you add rows, so with 10 rows you have a good idea. It'll sometimes surprise you, how large a hook you can actually use! 😊)

    Back in the Dark Ages (when I learned how to crochet) they used to call Tunisian crochet the afghan stitch. I made several afghans with it and crossed stitched patterns on the front. One of my young cousins brought out a bag full of stuff to teach me a whole new thing and was surprised when I already knew how to do it (sorry, old people know lots of stuff already). I bought Toni's book and made a cardigan for my daughter in law from it, it's beautiful and Toni is a goddess.

    Welcome to club 40. 🙂 I love the Oslo hat. Thanks for sharing the construction because it has confirmed that I need to knit that hat. I also have ear pain from the cold and wind so the triple brim sounds AMAZING.
    I learned crochet several years before knitting and I love the Tunision crochet technique! It's very fun and I need to get tunision crochet hooks with cables because I only have the old school hooks from my great grandma. I also inherited a couple sizes of hairpin lace needles but I have not dared dive into that one........maybe this will be the year.

    Now my new obsession too! Thank you and Toni for enabling! :) New to crochet and still on the basics having only recently learnt that terms for UK and US stitches can be different. Have started with a basic hat but wanted to comment in case this is helpful to anyone that I hold the yarn in the same hand as the hook...as I do in knitting (Im right-handed). I believe this is quite rare. Tunisian crochet does seem to offer the best of both worlds. Have purchased the hooks and am eager to try. 💜

  • @octoberedith1404
    @octoberedith1404 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    I learned to work Tunisian when I was in elementary school, my grandpa made the hooks. I've never upgraded, just love using the hooks he made. My grandma called it cro-knit at the time. It wasn't until I saw the hook used on Pinterest that I realized Tunisian was the same basic stitch I'd learned in cro-knit. I did experiment with different techniques a long time ago, but now am delighted with the different stitches we can do now! I always start with dish/washcloths to learn new stitches whenever I get the urge to work on Tunisian.

    I bought the lantern moon set as my first set of Tunisian hooks as well. I broke my ankle before Christmas so I’ve been stuck on the couch. After making 3 lalylala lambs ( highly recommend) I was looking for something new, Toni got me started in Tunisian, It’s funny how Tunisian crochet made me want to try knitting, bought one pair of lantern moon knitting needles becuase I already had cords. I’m trying to bend my mind around knitting, it’s what initially brought me to your channel

    That’s so funny I started with crochet (a few years ago) so that feels familiar and easy while knitting for so long felt like sorcery… now I knit too and it’s not quite so mystical but I love it too now! It was harder to learn than crochet though 😉 oh also I’m a chart girl all the way- give me a crochet chart and I can make the thing… give me written instructions and I feel like I’m in math class struggling through a word problem.

    Beautiful Tunisian wrap. Tunisian is a great transition craft between crochet and knitting. I learned crochet, then Tunisian, and then Knit. It makes a great thick fabric. And it has the most stitches available, because you can insert the hook in 5+ spots. Enjoy.

    I just started learning Tunisian Crochet and discovered Toni Lipsey and binged watched a lot of her videos. I watched her video on Tunisian Crochet Hooks and discovered that Chiaogoo have a tunisian crochet hook set and that's the set I purchased. I also heard great reviews about her book "The Tunisian Crochet Handbook: A Beginners Guide", published '2021. I purchased from Amazon and I love the book, it has great instructions along with pictures of the stitches. The book includes a few projects to get you started. I'm finding out tunisian crochet is not as hard as I thought it was.
