    • @KasumiRINA

      It is sad, considering that the best and most ambitious projects were shut down. Streets of Rage Remake is very likely the best 2D beatemup of all time. SEGA called... First KOTOR is one of the best RPGs ever, but the engine 8s broken and doesn't run well on modern systems or in HD (text becomes unreadable, FMVs need exotic codes etc.), remake looked very promising but EA... Worst thing is that companies don't use those licenses themselves. Just sit on them.

      @KasumiRINA 5 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Absolutely! When I see low-fi graphics, things like digitized sprites or prerendered stuff, it subconsciously brings up feelings we had when seeing similar style originally. It's the same process people have towards food that's similar to grandma's or their local traditions and art, even though they are not the pieces you seen as a kid, it feels like it. That's what nostalgia is. Things that you associate with the warm parts of your childhood or youth.

      @vcolinc 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@TheAtoll Well although it has been a few years since I've seen the movie, it was still quite a while after it was released when I did see it. Waterworld was much better than critics made it out to be at the time. I was surprised at how good it was when I watched it. It always helps to have low expectations, but I think I would have really enjoyed it nonetheless. To my surprise, it was a great adventure movie set on a brilliantly large scale. I wasn't aware there was a Waterworld video game or video games, but I can see how that leaves plenty of scope for imaginative gameplay design.
      More than that though, the film is quite philosophical. It examines several things about life in a fictional dystopian future. It is quite allegorical and full of symbolism. It's much more than just a "mad-max at sea" movie and certainly not a "washout" or some such hackneyed pun like so many hacks who thought they were being funny at the time said.
      I will check out your channel and have a look...

    UK Gold also used to be the name of a TV channel here, they showed reruns of all the old sitcoms from the 70s and 80s. I think they're called UKTV Gold now. I'm sure someone will correct me if I'm wrong

    Reminds me of that The Sims: That's Life mod pack you covered earlier - mods downloaded off the web and stuffed into a disk without permission from the original authors.
    If anything, while the existence of these pissed off mod authors back in the day as they weren't credited and/or compensated, it had this side effect of the stolen mods being preserved for perpetuity than get lost to link rot.

    As a Brit I remember these and UKGold, it's because the average person didn't really have the means to exploit BBS systems back in the day for all of their delicious innards, so we had to rely on coverdiscs and packs like these-of which there were many-to get our modding jollies. Honestly, it was a service being offered to those who otherwise wouldn't have been able to get into mods at the time.
    Coverdiscs were a real boon especially so, you never knew what you'd find on one. They were delightful and I'm sad that America missed out on that particular joy. Like I said though, you gents had BBSes.
    I'd like to see more of this. It's fascinating watching someone who'd never experienced any of htis back in the day expericing it now. UKGold was a fairly common name back in the '80s and the '90s, having published numerous home computer games for the usual suspects from Sinclair Computers, Amstrad, Atari, and Commodore.

    My Dad had a copy of Ford Simulator I played as a child. It was on a 5.25" floppy disk that was white if I remember correctly. Played like a B&W version of Outrun. But I do remember it would have little cockpit segments like the owners manual to show you how the car operated.
